- I Asked You To Simulate A Crime, And You Pulled Off The Perfect Crime?
- Chapter 45 - Liang Wei, Professional Racer
Under the watchful eyes of the audience, Chen Shu sat in the driver’s seat and shut the door. First, he confirmed that the car was an old Volkswagen, still using a traditional ignition system.
That made things easier!
He bent down, lifted the carpet under the driver’s seat, and revealed a plastic panel. With a few forceful tugs, the panel came loose, exposing a tangled mess of wires!
“Wait, does he actually know how to do this?”
“Director, you seriously need to investigate him. Is he from a family of car thieves or what?”
“Is he really about to start this car?”
“Calm down, people! Even if he looks like a pro, hotwiring a car without a key is insanely difficult. He might not pull it off!”
“Exactly. I’m a professional mechanic. Unlocking a car door is one thing, but starting the ignition? That’s a whole other level. And this car’s wiring is super complex. If he messes up the ignition circuit, the car’s done for. He has only one shot. Even I wouldn’t bet on getting it right in one go.”
Under everyone’s scrutiny, Chen Shu continued working. Studying the differently colored wires, he recalled the techniques stored in his mind.
“Red wire for power.”
“Yellow wire for ignition.”
“Black wire is ground, no need to bother with that.”
“The rest are useless for now.”
He grabbed the necessary wires, stripped off their insulation to expose the copper inside, and carefully twisted a red power wire together with a yellow ignition wire.
To prevent short circuits, he picked up the stripped insulation and wrapped it around the connection multiple times.
“Done!” Chen Shu sat up, gripped the steering wheel, and pressed the clutch with his left foot.
Vroom.
The car trembled as the engine roared to life.
“Holy shit, it actually started!”
“Investigate him! Investigate him! Investigate him!”
“I had my suspicions last episode. If this guy is just a random contestant, how does he pull off perfect crimes? He’s definitely hiding something!”
“Right! When Zhang Bingbing asked him how he does these things, he just said, ‘It’s all about practice.’ We thought he was joking, but now… what if he’s actually a criminal?”
“Damn, his car theft skills are better than in movies!”
“This is insane!”
The audience was hyped. This wasn’t just acting, this was a live broadcast. No way he was cheating, this was pure skill. A total nobody with abilities like this?!
Impossible not to wonder about his past!
Meanwhile, in the director’s room, Zhang Sheng was in shock. He yanked open a drawer and flipped through Chen Shu’s files again. No mistake, this guy was just an unemployed drifter and his college major wasn’t even related to auto mechanics!
Where the hell did he learn all these crime skills? Was he an actual fugitive?
A chill ran down Zhang Sheng’s spine. He didn’t even want to imagine the consequences of this.
Ring, ring.
The phone on his desk rang, without even looking, he knew it was the station director, Wu Hong.
“Hello, Director.”
“Zhang Sheng, be honest with me. Are you absolutely sure this guy is a legal citizen?” Wu Hong asked the exact question Zhang Sheng was struggling with.
“I checked his records. He is.”
“Then explain to me how he knows how to steal a car like that! What, was he born with this skill? No one gets that good without years of practice and real-world experience!” Wu Hong was just as baffled. Watching the live broadcast had left him stunned.
“I have no idea!” Zhang Sheng said helplessly.
“Alright, forget that for now. Contact the car’s owner and tell them this was all staged. We’ll compensate them fully for any damage,” Wu Hong instructed quickly.
Car theft was way beyond the show’s script, this was a total accident. They needed to handle it properly before the public got mad and reported them.
“Got it, I’ll take care of it now,” Zhang Sheng replied.
“Wait,” Wu Hong suddenly stopped him. “This guy is getting a lot of attention, which is great for ratings, but we can’t keep him around. It’s too risky. So, according to the script, when do we write him out?”
Zhang Sheng quickly responded, “According to the storyline, once Liang Wei captures Su Xiaoxiao, he’ll use her life to threaten Chen Shu. That’ll force Chen Shu to reveal where the body is hidden, and the investigation team can finally convict him.”
“Good,” Wu Hong sighed in relief. “Liang Wei is already making his move. He caught Su Xiaoxiao so fast that even Zeng Zhiwei, who was assigned to protect her, didn’t react in time. If things go smoothly, we should find the body today and get Chen Shu off the show.”
“But…” Zhang Sheng frowned. “Chen Shu just stole a car and is chasing after Liang Wei. He clearly intends to intercept him and rescue Su Xiaoxiao.”
Hearing this, Wu Hong sneered.
“Zhang, you’re overthinking. I admit Chen Shu is full of tricks, but Liang Wei isn’t just an actor, he’s also a professional racer. He’s represented Hong Kong’s racing club in international competitions and placed impressively.”
“What about Chen Shu?”
“Knowing how to steal a car doesn’t mean he can drive well. Driving doesn’t mean he can drive fast. Driving fast doesn’t mean he can race.”
“How the hell is he supposed to catch up to Liang Wei? What, does he think this is a Hollywood action movie?”
Hearing this, Zhang Sheng finally relaxed. Yeah… Chen Shu was being delusional. Chasing down a pro racer in a crappy stolen car?
No way.
“Understood, Director,” Zhang Sheng replied.
“Good. Just remember, get Chen Shu off the show ASAP. Keeping him around is too dangerous.” With that, Wu Hong hung up.
Zhang Sheng put down the phone and turned back to the giant screen in the director’s room. Sure enough, Chen Shu was driving that broken car, speeding after Liang Wei.
“Hah! If he catches up, I’ll eat shit standing on my head!”
