Inside the cramped interrogation room, Chen Shu’s voice echoed repeatedly in Wang Zheng’s ears. It felt like the piercing cry of a caged bird about to break free.

To Wang Zheng, it was nothing short of provocation.

“Chen Shu, I have to admit, I admire your tactics. In just two days, you managed to create a series of alibis. But do you really think we have no way to deal with you?”

“Officer Wang, how many times do I have to tell you? My sister and I have nothing to do with this disappearance case.”

Chen Shu sounded helpless, his tone filled with grievance.

“Enough with the act! I gave you a chance to come clean!” Wang Zheng slammed his hand on the table, pointing at Chen Shu as he barked, “Since you refuse to admit it, you want evidence, right? Fine! I’ll make sure you have nothing left to say!”

With that, Wang Zheng pulled out his phone and called Su Haoran, putting it on speaker, “Haoran, how’s it going? Have you found the body?”

“Captain Wang, we’ve arrived at Chen Shu’s house. We’re about to conduct a large-scale search of his building and the surrounding yard,” Su Haoran’s voice came through.

“Good.”

Wang Zheng ended the call, then looked straight at Chen Shu and said, “You had a total of two days!”

“Subtract the time you spent dealing with Liu Liang’s car.”

“Subtract the time you spent out of town.”

“Subtract the time you used to find villagers to provide false testimonies.”

“Subtract the time you spent coaching Su Xiaoxiao on her statement.”

“That leaves you with barely a few hours to handle the body!”

“We checked the city’s surveillance and found no evidence of you moving around. That means, aside from your trip out of town, you’ve only been in the western suburbs these past two days.”

“You didn’t have much time to hide the body, so it must be near your house!”

Wang Zheng’s voice was firm and confident. His reasoning was solid. Logically speaking, after Liu Liang died, Chen Shu’s first priority would be dealing with the body.

So, where would he have hidden it?

He only had two days, he couldn’t have carried the body around with him or dumped it far away. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have had time to create his alibis. That meant the body was hidden somewhere near the scene of Liu Liang’s death!

The audience watching the live broadcast was impressed.

“This analysis is spot on! Even though Captain Wang misjudged Liu Liang’s time of death, I have to give him full marks for this deduction!”

“So logical!”

“Game over. The misjudged time of death doesn’t even matter now. The body is in Chen Shu’s yard. Once they find it, he won’t be able to deny it anymore!”

“Wait, what if Captain Wang intentionally misjudged the time just to add suspense to the show?”

“Oh damn, that actually makes sense! Maybe he thought this guy was too boring, so he set him up for a big fall!”

“Captain Wang, you’re putting on a performance too, huh?”

Inside the interrogation room, Chen Shu was speechless. It was like the last layer of his defense had been ripped apart by Wang Zheng right in front of him.

“Heh.” Wang Zheng chuckled at his reaction. He casually took a sip of tea and continued, “Even if you confess now, I don’t care. You wanted evidence, right? Just wait here. It won’t be long before it’s brought right to you.”

Chen Shu sighed helplessly. “Alright, Officer Wang.”

Silence filled the interrogation room.

Since nothing else was happening there, the director, Zhang Sheng, instructed the crew to switch the live feed to Chen Shu’s house.

The screen showed Su Haoran leading a team of over ten officers, accompanied by several police dogs, as they searched the house.

After thoroughly searching the building, they turned their focus to the yard!

The police dogs sniffed the soil, slowly moving forward…

“It’s over! Case closed!”

“Haha, that guy won’t be able to keep lying now!”

“I told you, hiding the body in the yard was the dumbest move! Who said ‘the most dangerous place is the safest’? Show yourself!”

“Ugh, finally! This episode was so boring.”

The audience was already celebrating. Normally, when a suspect was about to be caught, viewers would root for them to escape. But this time, they just wanted it to end.

Now that the body was about to be found, there was no way the suspect could keep bluffing.

Just moments ago, he had the audacity to demand evidence from Captain Wang? Ridiculous.

Of course, the audience wasn’t the only ones relieved. Director Zhang Sheng finally let out a long breath. Thankfully, they had smoothly transitioned into the next episode otherwise, the audience backlash might have cost him his job.

Lying back in his chair, Zhang Sheng pulled out his phone and called Liang Wei. The call rang several times before being answered. “Hello, Mr. Liang. Are you ready? Episode seven starts filming tomorrow,” Zhang Sheng said, patting his round belly.

Liang Wei responded, “Director Zhang, I’ve read the script. No issues on my end.”

“Great!” Zhang Sheng chuckled, his tone slightly flattering. “Like I told you before, this time, there won’t be any surprises. That amateur won’t last long. This show still needs top actors like you to create suspense and make it worth watching.”

“Agreed.” Liang Wei didn’t bother with humility. After all, he had watched the whole live broadcast and was fed up with that amateur’s awful performance.

Honestly, he was still annoyed. Originally, the older brother role was supposed to be his but somehow, it was given to a complete nobody.

He wasn’t upset about losing the role itself, he was upset that the guy botched it so badly, wasting a perfectly good script!

“Alright, see you at the shoot tomorrow. Rest well, Mr. Liang,” Zhang Sheng said, shifting his focus back to the live broadcast.

“I’m in no hurry to sleep. I want to see that amateur’s final moments of failure.”

“Same here.”

The two men laughed over the phone. But as the minutes ticked by the live broadcast remained eerily quiet.

There was no excited shout from Su Haoran.

No barking from the police dogs.
