- Chapter 168 - Liang Wei’s Wife Comes Back to Life
As the camera zoomed in, even though the bone marrow in Chen Shu’s hands was blurred out, the stark white lighting, his cold expression, and the dissected body of Liang Wei beside him created an eerie, haunting scene. It was as if he had completely merged with the environment.
Everyone watching felt a chill down their spine.
“You’d think Liang Wei’s corpse would be the only one spared in this hospital, but nope, even he couldn’t escape Chen Shu in the end. Hahaha.”
“Liang Wei’s wife was left with just her head, and now Liang Wei’s stomach has been sliced open. As the old saying goes, they’re a match made in hell.”
“Chen Shu got the idea to swap Su Xiaoxiao’s body from Liang Wei’s wife, and then used Liang Wei’s corpse to store the bone marrow. These two really got wrung dry.”
“Chen Shu: Meeting you two was truly a blessing.”
“Liang Wei and his wife: We concede… completely.”
In the director’s control room, Zhang Sheng slumped back into his chair. Through the livestream feed, he saw the smirk curling on Chen Shu’s lips.
He knew that smile was aimed at him. Dripping with mockery. Mocking the detective team for failing yet again to stop a perfect crime. Mocking the production team for deliberately sabotaging him with the mission card, only to watch him turn the tables effortlessly.
“Is he… actually a genius?” Zhang Sheng muttered to himself.
Beep, beep. Suddenly, his phone started ringing urgently. Zhang Sheng swallowed hard, he knew the station director was about to tear into him.
Beep, beep, This time, though, he shut off the phone completely. Pretending the battery died.
“I’m a damn genius too,” Zhang Sheng chuckled bitterly.
He was already in a foul mood. Getting chewed out now would just make things worse. Push him too far, and maybe he’d pull off a perfect crime against the station director. After all, he had picked up a few tricks from Chen Shu.
“Ahem,” Zhang Sheng coughed awkwardly, snapping out of his melodramatic daydream. He turned to the mic and instructed, “Alright, Bingbing, wrap up this episode.”
“Got it, Director,” Zhang Bingbing replied.
The livestream cut to Zhang Bingbing alone as she began her closing monologue. Zhang Sheng slouched, lost in thought. Maybe still daydreaming about pulling off that perfect crime on his boss.
Knock, knock. A knock snapped him out of it.
“Come in.”
A middle-aged woman with a “Creative Director” badge hanging from her neck walked in, carrying a notebook, which she placed on Zhang Sheng’s desk. “Director, I stayed up late working on the next episode’s script. Please take a look.”
Zhang Sheng didn’t open it right away. “Liu Hui, not to point fingers, but didn’t you promise me that the setup for ‘Say Hi to Sister-in-Law’ would guarantee Chen Shu’s defeat? And yet?”
Liu Hui shrugged helplessly. “Director, aside from Yamamoto Sakura’s identity card, the other three were total trash. That’s not my fault. Yamamoto Sakura had the best hand and still fumbled it… But mainly, it’s just that Chen Shu is too damn good.”
“Sigh…” Zhang Sheng took the script for the next episode and skimmed through it, his eyes lit up. “Interesting. The new characters and the storyline look even more fleshed out than before.”
“I worked overtime to come up with that,” Liu Hui said, scratching her head.
“Excellent, excellent,” Zhang Sheng gave her a thumbs-up, then ordered, “Release the teaser tomorrow. It’s going to blow up!”
Back at Haicheng Central Hospital, Zhang Bingbing continued her closing remarks. Although Chen Shu had won, for the sake of the show’s integrity, Zhang Bingbing carefully avoided glorifying crime and reminded viewers not to break the law.
Off-camera, Chen Shu leaned against the wall. Suddenly, a familiar system voice rang in his mind.
Ding! “Congratulations to the host for pulling off another perfect crime!”
“All attributes increased.”
Strength +3.
Intelligence +3.
Agility +3.
Endurance +6.”
Chen Shu let out a long breath, his exhausted body seemed to rejuvenate in that instant. His eyes grew brighter, his lean, lanky frame now pulsed with newfound power.
“Congratulations, host has been promoted to Three-Star Criminal!
New skill unlocked, ‘Mimicry.’
Mimicry: As a criminal, deceiving the police and victims is second nature. This skill allows you to imitate anyone’s voice, giving you an edge on the path of crime!”
Note: To mimic someone’s voice, you must have spoken with them at least three times to imprint their vocal patterns in memory.”
Finally! The skill Chen Shu had been eagerly waiting for.
“Mimicry? I can imitate other people’s voices now?”
Chen Shu grinned. This was going to be fun. With this, he could even pull off telecom fraud. That’d make money fast. Of course, he was only joking. Still, this new ability felt like a game-changer.
If he’d had it during the “Say Hi to Sister-in-Law” case, he wouldn’t have needed to swap bodies or create elaborate traps to lure the detectives. He could’ve just mimicked Liang Wei’s voice and called the police himself, claiming Yamamoto Sakura was trying to kill him, then kill Liang Wei.
Naturally, the police would suspect Yamamoto Sakura first. But that was all just hindsight now. While the new skill was powerful, like his other abilities, it was meant as a tool, not a crutch.
To pull off a truly flawless, sky-bluffing perfect crime? You still needed brains.
A status panel floated in front of Chen Shu’s eyes.

Level: Three-Star Criminal

Agility: 20
Endurance: 26
Perfect Crimes: 3
Skills:

Missions: Locked (Requires Five-Star Criminal to unlock.)
“I’m getting closer to Five-Star,” Chen Shu muttered, staring at the Missions tab. His curiosity only deepened. “What kind of missions will unlock once I reach Five Stars?”
“Ah well… one step at a time. As long as my attributes and skill count keep growing, no task will be too difficult.” With that, he dismissed the panel.
Meanwhile, Zhang Bingbing had been rambling on for a while and finally arrived at the actor interview segment.
Liang Wei, Su Xiaoxiao, and both bakas, all the cast members whose roles had ended, came on set.
“Bro!” Su Xiaoxiao came bouncing over. “Congrats, congrats! You know what? I was so busy in the ‘Dead Room Suite’ eating while roasting Liang Wei and Yamamoto Sakura. They really underestimated you. Honestly, everyone did. But you proved them all wrong! Waaah, you’re amazing!”
Hearing Su Xiaoxiao’s shameless praise, Liang Wei muttered, “What kind of doll cries every day? I swear, next episode, I’m chopping you both up.”
Yamamoto Sakura, leaning on Liang Wei’s shoulder, added, “I’ll be back.”
June 7, around noon. The Inescapable Justice official account released the teaser for Episode 9. It instantly went viral, the announcement read, “Dear viewers, Episode 8 has concluded. We know you’re eager for Episode 9. So here’s a sneak peek.
Episode 9 is a prequel to Episode 8!
Yes, you heard right, the story takes place three years before ‘Say Hi to Sister-in-Law,’ when Su Xiaoxiao hadn’t yet been diagnosed with leukemia and Chen Shu wasn’t a doctor yet.
And most importantly…
Liang Wei’s wife was still alive!
Want to know what happened three years ago that made Su Xiaoxiao love her brother so much she’d willingly take the fall for his crimes?
Want to know who actually burned Liang Wei’s wife to death?
Then don’t miss Episode 9, premiering one month from now!”
The teaser triggered a storm of online discussion.
“Holy crap, I thought Episode 9 would be a whole new story. Didn’t expect a prequel to Episode 8!”
“I’m dying, Liang Wei’s wife is back! Anyone who said they wanted to ‘greet the sister-in-law,’ come out and face the music!”
“Say hi to sister-in-law!”
“But seriously, who burned Liang Wei’s wife? I bet it was Chen Shu. That guy kills without blinking.”
“Could be. Maybe that’s why Liang Wei ended up working at Haicheng Central Hospital.”
“Hey, maybe Liang Wei killed her himself and out of guilt, he came to the hospital looking for a complete body to make up for it.”
“Actually… that kinda makes sense.”
“Wait, we have to wait another month? I can’t take this. I paid for VIP, why the hell is the release schedule so slow? What am I even paying for? Can’t they air it tomorrow?!”
“We’ve all seen the end of Episode 8. Who isn’t a VIP at this point?”
“We’re all VIPs here, speak with your chest! Director Dog, drop Episode 9 already and stop dragging your feet!”
