Creaaak.

The iron door of the interrogation room swung open. Wang Zheng and the other three stepped out and leaned against the corridor wall.

“Now that the shovel found at the crime scene can no longer be used as evidence to accuse Chen Shu, all of our previous deductions have been completely overturned,” Su Hao Ran said.

Their earlier theories had all been based on the assumption that the shovel was the murder weapon. But now that it wasn’t, everything they believed was invalidated.

“Our previous assumptions pointed to Chen Shu as the killer. But just now, Chen Shu’s deductions all pointed to Liang Wei, and his reasoning… does make a certain amount of sense,” Wang Zheng said with arms crossed, his tone filled with frustration.

“Sense, my ass,” Yamamoto Yuu snapped from the side. “That shovel found at the scene still had fresh blood on it, it hadn’t even dried yet. This means that a shovel definitely hurt someone during the crime. I’m starting to suspect that before we found the shovel, Chen Shu snuck back to the crime scene and deliberately tampered with the blood on it.”

Su Hao Ran spoke up. “Mr. Yamamoto, the crime scene was sealed off. Chen Shu had no way to get in. In other words, before our officers discovered the shovel, he had no opportunity to touch it.”

“Enough. There’s no point arguing this now,” Wang Zheng raised his hand to interrupt. “Since according to Chen Shu’s theory, the real killer is Liang Wei and the murder weapon is hidden by him, then let’s go search for it. After all, what Chen Shu said does remain a possibility.”

“Alright. I’ll go with Hao Ran,” Qin Min nodded and left the station with Su Hao Ran.

They needed to verify Chen Shu’s claims. The only thing they could do now was to find the murder weapon Liang Wei supposedly hid. If they found the weapon with Sakura Yamamoto’s blood on it, along with Liang Wei’s fingerprints, then Chen Shu’s deduction would be proven true!

Inside the hotel, Su Xiaoxiao blinked as she looked at Liang Wei sitting by the TV, gripping the remote tightly.

“Liang Wei, where exactly did you hide the murder weapon?” she asked.

Liang Wei rolled his eyes. “Hide your grandpa! I didn’t kill Sakura. Chen Shu is spouting pure bullshit right now.”

Sakura Yamamoto also nodded. “That’s right. The shovel my dad found at the crime scene was the weapon that killed me. I just can’t understand why the blood on it doesn’t match mine.”

“It’s simple, Chen Shu must’ve swapped the blood,” Liang Wei said. “But how he managed to do it, I really don’t get. What about you two? You watched the entire livestream. You didn’t notice anything? Seriously, both of you are so useless, even with your god’s-eye view, you still didn’t figure it out?”

Su Xiaoxiao shook her head. “My brother deliberately blocked the camera earlier. We have no idea what he did then.”

“Same here,” said Sakura Yamamoto.

“Hmph,” Liang Wei hugged his knees. “Fine. I don’t know how he did it either. But frame me? Sorry, I’ve got no murder weap—”

Mid-sentence, Liang Wei suddenly froze. A shovel? He did have one! The other night, he had used a shovel to dig a pit in the grassy field behind the hospital to bury his ‘wife.’ He dug the hole with that shovel.

But later, his ‘wife’ disappeared. He knew Chen Shu had moved her. Which meant, Chen Shu had seen that shovel!

When he blocked the camera, did he smear Sakura Yamamoto’s blood onto it?

“Shit. I’m done for. Chen Shu must’ve tampered with that shovel!” At once, Liang Wei flipped through the channels on the remote, switching the livestream from Chen Shu to the investigation team.

On screen, Qin Min and Su Hao Ran had already arrived at Haicheng Central Hospital. They had brought seven or eight officers and were searching the entire hospital thoroughly.

Seeing this, Liang Wei’s heart sank. He knew Chen Shu wouldn’t have hidden the shovel too well. He’d definitely made sure the investigation team would find it.

And once they did, if the blood tested as Sakura Yamamoto’s, Chen Shu’s deduction would be confirmed!

Liang Wei screamed, “Aaaaaaahhhh, yamete!!”

About half an hour later, Liang Wei watched in horror as Qin Min and Su Hao Ran walked into his small room.

They lifted the quilt. Opened the drawers. Finally, they looked under the bed and found a dirt-covered shovel. Beneath the dirt, faint traces of red blood were visible.

“Damn it… Chen Shu played me again.”

“That night, he fed me that ‘bread’ laced with anesthetic, knocked me out, and while the camera was blocked, he moved my wife and smeared Sakura Yamamoto’s blood on my shovel!”

Liang Wei felt like everything was clear now. But there was still something he didn’t understand, the same thing that puzzled all the viewers.

Why didn’t the blood on the shovel at the crime scene match Sakura’s? That was the key. If the blood had matched, Chen Shu’s frame-up would have failed completely!

How on earth had he pulled this off?

June 6th, 2:00 PM, Qin Min entered the office holding the latest report. Immediately, Wang Zheng and the others turned to him.

“Captain Wang, the results are out.” Qin Min laid the report on the desk and flipped it open. “The shovel found under Liang Wei’s bed is covered with his fingerprints. And the faint blood on the shovel, based on blood tests, is an exact match for the sample taken from Sakura Yamamoto’s body.”

“In other words, Chen Shu was telling the truth. Liang Wei is the real killer.”

“He killed Sakura to silence her after failing to frame her. Then he took the real murder weapon away from the scene and tricked Su Xiaoxiao into unknowingly helping Chen Shu take the blame.”

“Those siblings are innocent.”

Hearing this, Yamamoto Yuu snatched the report and stared at it, eyes reddened, with disbelief on his face. “Impossible. There’s no way Liang Wei could’ve killed my daughter.”

“Him? He’s nothing! What kind of person is he, anyway?”

Yamamoto Yuu had seen the old footage of the show, Liang Wei was nothing but a useless clown. How could Sakura have died by his hand? Besides, Yamamoto Yuu remembered that when they investigated the crime scene, his daughter had rigged a trap with the file cabinet that successfully triggered and crushed Liang Wei’s leg.

Logically speaking, if Liang Wei’s leg had been injured like that, he wouldn’t have had the strength to fight his daughter, let alone kill her.

“Where’s Chen Shu?” Yamamoto Yuu demanded.

“The time limit for holding a suspect expired. He’s been sent back to the hospital,” Wang Zheng replied.

Yamamoto Yuu crumpled the report in his hand once more. He slumped into a chair, looking lost. Then he muttered, “The shovel at the scene has Chen Shu’s fingerprints and fresh blood, but the blood doesn’t match my daughter’s.”

“And the shovel found in Liang Wei’s room has his fingerprints, and the blood does match my daughter’s. Liang Wei’s the killer? That’s impossible…”

Yamamoto Yuu leaned back in the chair and rubbed his temples. Then he closed his eyes and replayed everything Liang Wei had done at Haicheng Central Hospital in his mind.

“Stealing corpses. Piecing together his ‘wife.’ Eating a certain part of Su Xiaoxiao’s upper body… Using Su Xiaoxiao’s upper body to complete his final ‘puzzle.’”

Suddenly, Yamamoto Yuu’s hand stopped moving. His eyes flew open, a faint light flickered in them.

June 6th, 9:00 PM, Haicheng Central Hospital.

A black sedan pulled up at the entrance. The car door opened, Yamamoto Yuu stepped out. Alone, he headed straight for the morgue.
