Yamamoto Yuu tore the blood test report into pieces. He couldn’t believe it, no matter how hard he tried. As a detective, he had absolute confidence in his conclusion. As long as the blood on the shovel matched his daughter’s, he could force Chen Shu to confess completely.

But now, the two blood samples didn’t match at all! This completely shattered the confident deduction he had made earlier. Everything crumbled to dust.

“Qin Min, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?” Wang Zheng asked, his face full of confusion.

“No mistake,” Qin Min shook his head. “I ran multiple tests, comparing Yamamoto Sakura’s blood with the sample on the shovel. Every single time, the result was the same, they do not match.”

The four of them fell silent. Then, almost as if drawn by some invisible force, they all turned their eyes to Chen Shu, sitting in the metal chair with handcuffs on his wrists.

At this moment, Chen Shu’s face was calm and indifferent. His long, slender hair fell slightly messily over his forehead, then he spoke.

“Mr. Yamamoto, you said before, if the blood on the shovel matched Sakura’s, then it would be confirmed as the murder weapon. But now… does it still count as the murder weapon?”

Yamamoto Yuu gritted his teeth. “For now… we can’t determine that.”

Chen Shu chuckled softly, his shoulders rising and falling. “Since you can’t determine that for now, does that mean I’m still the murderer?”

“Also… undetermined,” Yamamoto Yuu replied.

The interrogation room sank into silence. The four detectives stood frozen in place. What they had thought would be a simple matter had turned into a complete mess.

At the very beginning, they were sure the shovel was the murder weapon. After all, it was found at the crime scene, covered in fresh blood that hadn’t yet coagulated, and with Chen Shu’s fingerprints all over it.

That was almost enough to conclude that Chen Shu had used the shovel to kill Sakura. But the final and most crucial link had snapped.

“Do you have anything else to say?” Suddenly, Chen Shu broke the silence. “Since it’s still undetermined whether I’m the murderer, at most I’m just a suspect now. You only have the right to hold me for twenty-four hours. There can’t be many hours left, right?”

“I know you definitely won’t let me go early.”

“That’s fine. Doesn’t matter to me.” Chen Shu shrugged and continued, “But like I said, you want me to confess? Sorry. I, Chen Shu, have no crime to confess!”

“And since I’ve got some time left, listen carefully. I’m going to start clearing my name now!”

His familiar words echoed through the live broadcast room. For the old viewers of this show, these words were unforgettable.

“He’s doing it again. Just like when he framed Zeng Zhiwei, he said the exact same thing.”

“We all know he’s the killer. Wang Zheng and the others know he’s the killer. But every time Chen Shu says this, they end up feeling helpless.”

“He’s going to start spinning lies with a straight face again!”

“Haha, lies? Come on, every time he talks, it sounds so logical. I’m just curious what nonsense he’ll make up this time.”

Hearing Chen Shu’s words, the four detectives sat down. Their eyes locked onto Chen Shu. Right now, they all wanted to hear what this man would say next.

“On the night of the crime, at 10:30,” Chen Shu began, “I left my office to use the restroom. That’s a fact, right?” He looked at them.

They nodded. “Yes.” They had received the emergency call and arrived at the hospital around 10:50. According to the analysis of the feces in the toilet, the time of its creation was between 10:30 and 10:50. In other words, during that time, Chen Shu was indeed in the bathroom, not the nurse’s office.

That was his alibi. But so what? In Wang Zheng and the others’ theory, Chen Shu hadn’t killed Sakura during that time frame. Their assumption was that he acted after leaving the restroom.

“During that period, Liang Wei brought his wife’s body into the nurse’s office, intending to frame Sakura. That’s also a fact, right?” Chen Shu asked again.

The four nodded once more. “Yes.”

Liang Wei was the corpse thief. His skin tissue was found on the nurse’s office file cabinet. So this part was undeniably true. But again, so what? Liang Wei had merely tried to stash the body, failed, got caught by Sakura, and was scolded, nearly breaking his leg in the process.

In the detectives’ reasoning, Sakura’s death had nothing to do with him.

“But tell me this,” Chen Shu continued, “Isn’t it possible that after Liang Wei was discovered by Sakura, an argument broke out?”

“After all, Sakura had been the prime suspect of corpse theft. But suddenly she realized Liang Wei was the real thief and that he wanted to pin it on her. If you were her, what would you do?” He posed the question.

Wang Zheng thought for a moment, then replied first, “Call the police and have Liang Wei arrested to clear her name.”

“Exactly,” Chen Shu nodded. “But if you were Liang Wei at that moment, what would you do?”

Qin Min answered, “Either bribe her to shut her up or kill her to silence her forever.”

Chen Shu smiled. “Right. This is the problem you’ve all been overlooking. Liang Wei’s frame-up failed. How could Sakura possibly have let him go after that? Just smashed his leg and that’s it? Impossible. She would have held onto him, waiting for the police to arrive.”

With those words, Wang Zheng and the others felt their entire line of reasoning collapse. From the moment they found the bloody shovel and confirmed Chen Shu’s fingerprints, their attention had been completely fixed on Chen Shu. They had overlooked this detail.

Of course, how could Sakura have let Liang Wei leave so easily?

Meanwhile, the live chat exploded.

“I don’t know how Chen Shu erased the blood evidence, but he’s right, there’s no way Sakura would have just let Liang Wei go.”

“Chen Shu is shifting suspicion back onto the conflict between Sakura and Liang Wei.”

“All of Wang Zheng’s deductions were based on the shovel being the murder weapon. But now, with Chen Shu’s interference, they’re lost again.”

“I get why Chen Shu killed Liang Wei, it wasn’t just revenge. Liang Wei knew too much. Like how he faked being allies with Chen Shu to kill Sakura, but betrayed him. If that got out, it would’ve given Sakura a reason to let Liang Wei go.”

“Now no matter what Chen Shu says, it’s all ‘dead men tell no tales.’ Liang Wei’s dead, right in front of the cops. And his death can’t be pinned on Chen Shu.”

Chen Shu’s reasoning was built on the shovel not being the murder weapon. Meanwhile, Wang Zheng’s theory had entirely depended on it being exactly that. But now it wasn’t. Which gave Chen Shu plenty of room to maneuver.

“Next is my theory,” Chen Shu said. “When Sakura tried to call the police on Liang Wei, they argued. During that struggle, Liang Wei used another shovel, the real murder weapon, to kill Sakura. And he got hurt by the file cabinet in the process.”

“Liang Wei then grabbed the true weapon and ran away with his wife’s body. But as he was fleeing down the corridor, he happened to run into my little sister. My foolish sister.”

“He told her that he’d seen me killing Sakura, and urged her to call the police right away. Your earlier theory about my sister’s emergency call was probably right. She believed Liang Wei, panicked, and called you, hoping you’d stop me. She was kind-hearted, she didn’t want me burdened with murder because of her.”

Meanwhile, in the comments section.

“Unbelievable. Yamamoto Yuu’s deduction was almost entirely correct, except this one point. Turns out this was the only thing he got right.”

“Lies, nothing but lies.”

“So what? Chen Shu’s the only one left alive. All the others are dead. The only evidence pointing to him is gone. He can say whatever he wants.”

“After calling the police, my sister rushed to the nurse’s office and saw Sakura lying lifeless on the floor. She didn’t see me, maybe she heard Liang Wei crying for help and thought I was chasing him down to finish him off.”

“At that moment, standing there, looking at Sakura’s body, my sister thought I was the killer. She got played so badly by Liang Wei! She wanted to help me clean up the scene, but it was too late. You cops arrived too quickly. Props to you for that, by the way.”

“And right then, I walked out of the restroom, passing the nurse’s office. I saw my sister holding Sakura’s body.”

“You know what I thought at that moment?”

“Even though I knew my sister was kind, I thought she had killed Sakura. Because she desperately needed a bone marrow transplant to survive, and Sakura had refused. So I assumed she’d been driven into a corner.”

“My sister thought I’d killed Sakura. I thought my sister had killed Sakura. We siblings were completely fooled by Liang Wei.”

“So when I heard the police arrive, I told my sister to put the body down and let me take the blame. I figured I’d carry the crime for her. But she didn’t listen. She was dying, she must’ve decided to take the blame herself.”

“And so, she jumped out the window with Sakura’s corpse! My sister was innocent, and so was I! Liang Wei was the only true culprit!”

“Of course, I didn’t realize any of this until I saw Liang Wei eating my sister’s flesh, assembling her upper body into his wife’s corpse. Only then did I figure out the real plan.”

“Why did he tell my sister to call the police? What was in it for him? The whole file cabinet was covered in his traces, alerting the cops should’ve doomed him. But no, he used the bond between me and my sister. He knew she’d sacrifice herself to save me.”

“In this way, Sakura’s death would be blamed on my sister. My sister would die and he could use her upper body to recreate his wife. A perfect two-birds-with-one-stone scheme!”

“As for the shovel you found in the nurse’s office, the one that made you suspect me, that was just a coincidence. The hospital was half-operational. Junk was tossed everywhere. The real murder weapon, the real shovel, was hidden away by Liang Wei!”

“You can go search for it if you like.”
