Wang Zheng underestimated Chen Shu’s mental resilience. So, he went straight to the core question. According to the clues, Liu Liang’s car drove towards the western suburbs on the night of April 2nd. After that day, it was never seen again.

So, April 2nd was the date of Liu Liang’s death.

“Officer, sorry, I didn’t hear clearly. Can you repeat the question?” Chen Shu asked.

Wang Zheng narrowed his eyes. It seemed this guy had reached a dead end, so nervous he couldn’t even hear the question properly.

Wang Zheng repeated, “On April 2nd, where were you and your sister? What were you doing?”

“Answer honestly!”

“April 2nd…” Chen Shu pretended to think, recalling the details.

Meanwhile, the livestream chat exploded.

“I remember Chen Shu and Su Xiaoxiao went to Jinfu Village on April 2nd!”

“Yeah, we all saw it with our own eyes.”

“Did Officer Wang get Liu Liang’s time of death wrong? Why would he ask this?”

Even Zhang Sheng, who had been watching the livestream the whole time, was confused. He clearly remembered that on the morning of April 2nd, Chen Shu and Su Xiaoxiao took a bus to the countryside and stayed in the village overnight, only returning the next day.

What was the investigation team doing? How could Liu Liang have died on April 2nd?

“No, no, where did it go wrong?” Zhang Sheng rubbed his head. His memory felt hazy, as if the timeline had been subtly altered.

After a moment, he shook his head and stopped overthinking.

Maybe the investigation team was just setting a trap for Chen Shu by deliberately asking the wrong date.

“You’re saying you went to Jinfu Village on April 2nd?” Wang Zheng looked confused after hearing Chen Shu’s answer.

He was certain that April 2nd was Liu Liang’s time of death. Was this guy still trying to deny it? Making up an alibi?

Wang Zheng sneered internally. A mere civilian, his acting skills were decent, but he overlooked one major problem. Fabricating an alibi wasn’t something he could do alone.

“Then tell me, how did you get there?” Wang Zheng asked with a hint of amusement.

“I don’t have a car, so my sister and I took a bus to the countryside. We left in the morning, played the whole day, and returned the next day,” Chen Shu answered.

Wang Zheng scoffed. A conveniently crafted alibi! Staying out all day, perfectly avoiding Liu Liang’s time of death. He thought Chen Shu would come up with a grand lie after two days and yet, this was it?

Using a simple trip as an alibi?

Fine. Since you want to lie, let’s tear your story apart in front of the entire audience, piece by piece.

“You stayed overnight in the countryside. Where did you stay?”

“A farmhouse inn.”

“How old was the owner?”

“A middle-aged couple. I don’t know their exact ages, but they were around 35.”

“What did you eat for lunch?” Wang Zheng pressed.

“Some vegetarian dishes. I prefer meat, so I barely ate at lunch. Later that night, I paid the owner to slaughter a lamb for me.”

“What vegetarian dishes? Answer quickly!”

“Uh… boiled radish and stir-fried potatoes, I think.” Chen Shu answered smoothly, as if it were second nature. Wang Zheng, on the other hand, furrowed his brows deeper. The lie was too well-constructed. Even the smallest details were accounted for.

“And at night? What did you do?”

Chen Shu shrugged. “The village was holding a ritual ceremony, so my sister and I joined in.”

Wang Zheng frowned. “They let outsiders participate in their village ritual?”

Chen Shu sighed, “Officer Wang, it’s the modern era. Jinfu Village isn’t some backward place. Of course, they allow outsiders to participate. What better way to promote their traditions? Besides, I even had a long chat with the village elder.”

“Come on, Officer Wang, stop asking irrelevant questions. Are you going to ask me the village elder’s age next? I really wouldn’t know that.” Chen Shu put on a troubled expression.

The room fell silent. Wang Zheng had planned to expose his lie, but he hadn’t expected Chen Shu to craft his story so flawlessly within two days. It was obvious he had put in effort.

But so what? Would the case rely on his words alone? Solving a crime depended on evidence.

“Is there anyone who can confirm that you and your sister went to the countryside on April 2nd?”

Chen Shu rolled his eyes. “Officer Wang, were you even listening? There’s only one bus to the countryside. Ask the ticket seller. Plus, we stayed at the farmhouse overnight. That couple should remember us.”

“If that’s not enough, find the village elder. We talked for a long time, he should remember me.”

Wang Zheng froze. Even Qin Min, who was taking notes beside him, lifted his head and exchanged glances with Wang Zheng.

This wasn’t just a fabricated lie? Did he actually have people to back him up? Were they lying for him? Did he bribe them?

It seemed like he had used these two days wisely.

Meanwhile, the interrogation room’s footage was broadcasted live. Su Xiaoxiao was being questioned by Su Haoran.

“Officer, my brother and I really weren’t home that Saturday. We went to the countryside to see the rapeseed flowers.”

“Can anyone confirm that?” Su Haoran asked.

“Of course!” Su Xiaoxiao answered confidently. “We stayed at a farmhouse the whole night. That evening, my brother even helped the owner butcher a lamb!”

Meanwhile, the livestream was buzzing.

“Wait, is the investigation team serious? Did Liu Liang really die on April 2nd?”

“Yeah! Chen Shu and his sister weren’t even home that day. Shouldn’t Liu Liang have died on April 1st instead?”

“No, no, something feels off. I can’t put my finger on it, but something isn’t right.”

“In any case, the investigation team must have misjudged Liu Liang’s time of death.”

Chen Shu wasn’t aware of the audience’s doubts. But he was certain everyone who had seen him in the countryside, everyone who had spoken to him, had already been mentally influenced by him.

So, witnesses? He had them and not just one.
