6:00 PM. At this moment, the main livestream feed was fully focused on the investigation team. Five police cars drove in formation, heading straight for Haicheng Central Hospital.
“They’re here, they’re here!”
“Chen Shu’s done for this time. He’s still lying in bed fast asleep.”
“He’s been doomed since the moment he poisoned Liang Wei. That was the end of the line for him.”
“Seriously? Is this really how it ends? I’m not satisfied yet, what a shame.”
“Don’t be disappointed. Chen Shu killed Sakura, killed Liang Wei, and even defiled his wife. Three major crimes. Even though he didn’t manage to pull off the perfect crime, this case was exciting enough.”
“Exactly. After all, Chen Shu isn’t a god. Committing crimes one after another, how could he possibly escape? Besides, this time the filming was done under full lockdown. There was no way for him to run.”
Inside the director’s room, Zhang Sheng crossed his legs once again. At first, when Chen Shu deliberately left his fingerprints on the shovel, Zhang Sheng had been a little wary, wondering if Chen Shu was up to something again.
But then Chen Shu poisoned Liang Wei. How could he possibly explain that away? Once the police performed an autopsy and found out what drug he took, who else could they suspect but Doctor Chen himself?
Ring, ring. Right on time, the station director’s call came through. “Hello, Old Wu,” Zhang Sheng greeted.
“Yo, Xiao Zhang,” Wu Hong replied. “Even though we didn’t manage to make Yamamoto Sakura a star this time, at least Chen Shu failed to pull off another perfect crime. This season, our show did great, we can definitely reinforce our show’s reputation with this.”
Zhang Sheng nodded. “Right. And I have to admit, Yamamoto Sakura really did give Chen Shu a lot of trouble. That girl’s got something in her. Invite her again for the next show.”
“Sure, we can do that,” Wu Hong agreed. “Alright then, let’s leave it at that for now. Have the hosts get ready.”
Zhang Sheng, “Got it, Old Wu.”
Wu Hong, “Later, Xiao Zhang.”
At the hotel, Yamamoto Sakura was brushing her short hair, smiling as she glanced at Su Xiaoxiao sitting silently on the bed. “My, my, my. What? No more sass now?”
“Your dear brother Chen Shu is a real pervert. After they cut the cameras last night, he messed around with Liang Wei’s wife. He deserves to be caught. Still dreaming of pulling off the perfect crime? Killing everyone in sight?”
“What a joke.”
Su Xiaoxiao glared at Yamamoto Sakura. “My brother would rather mess with Liang Wei’s wife than do anything to you in the morgue. Don’t you feel ashamed?”
Yamamoto Sakura, “What do you mean by that?”
Su Xiaoxiao, “You’re not even as good as Liang Wei’s wife.”
Yamamoto Sakura, “Baka!”
Su Xiaoxiao, “Flat-chested.”
Yamamoto Sakura, “Baka! Baka!”
Su Xiaoxiao, “Airstrip.”
Yamamoto Sakura, “Baka! Baka! Baka!”
Su Xiaoxiao, “Mini steamed bun.”
Yamamoto Sakura: “*******!”
The police cars screeched to a stop.
“Move, move!” Wang Zheng ordered. “I’ll take a team upstairs to grab Chen Shu. You go catch Liang Wei and check the morgue while you’re at it. See what’s happened to the body.”
Without delay, Wang Zheng rushed upstairs with two officers.
Bang! The office door slammed open.
“Chen Shu, you are suspected of involvement in the ‘Sakura falling case.’ Don’t resist. You’re coming with us,” Wang Zheng shouted. The officers immediately stepped forward, cuffing Chen Shu’s wrists and yanking him off the bed!
Chen Shu shouted, “Captain Wang, I’m innocent! You all saw it yourselves, it was my sister who dragged Sakura down the stairs! I have a solid alibi!”
“Enough with the nonsense,” Wang Zheng cut him off. “Yes, you were squatting in the bathroom. Yes, you didn’t make the mess in the nurse’s office. But the murder weapon that killed Sakura has your fingerprints on it. You came out of the bathroom and made your move on her last!”
Chen Shu smiled faintly and said nothing.
“That familiar smile again. Too bad, before, when Chen Shu smiled, life and death hung in the balance. But this time… it’s a smile of helplessness.”
“Yeah. The investigation team has completely figured out the scene and found the evidence. He can’t argue his way out now.”
“Forget it, let the investigation team have their moment of glory this time.”
“Take him away!” Wang Zheng ordered. Two officers gripped Chen Shu’s arms and led him downstairs.
On the first floor, outside the small room next to the morgue. The door had been broken open by Su Hao Ran.
It was empty.
“Well? Did you catch Liang Wei?” Wang Zheng asked.
“No one in here,” Su Haoran replied.
“No one?” Wang Zheng frowned. “That can’t be. The hospital was sealed off. How could he possibly have escaped?”
Turning, Wang Zheng glanced at Chen Shu. “You two, what are you playing at? Where is he?”
Chen Shu shrugged, smiling. “Captain Wang, I don’t know him well. How would I know where he went?”
“Baka!” Yamamoto Yuu pointed at Chen Shu, shouting angrily, “You killed my daughter, and you still dare to laugh? Tell us, where’s Liang Wei? We know now my daughter’s death is tied to you, Liang Wei, and your sickly little sister! None of you can escape this!”
“We’ve got the evidence. It’s over. Why keep pretending?”
Chen Shu frowned. “Watch your mouth. You can curse me all you want, but my sister is dead. Don’t you dare insult her, or else…”
Yamamoto Yuu, “Or else what?”
Chen Shu gave a small smile. “You’ll find out.”
Clap. Suddenly, a noise echoed from the corridor! Everyone turned toward the sound, staring at the morgue doors.
Creak. The doors slowly swung open, Liang Wei squinted groggily, confused as he scanned the people outside. He exclaimed in surprise, “Woah~ So many people!”
“Holy crap! A living corpse?!”
“He’s not dead?”
“Didn’t Chen Shu poison him? How is he alive?”
“Liang Wei is poison-proof!”
“Liang Wei’s constitution is unbelievable!”
Everyone in the livestream was dumbfounded. Liang Wei was alive! So Chen Shu never killed him at all!
“What were you doing hiding in there?” Wang Zheng asked.
Liang Wei rubbed his dazed head. “I don’t know… It felt like I was dreaming for a long, long time. In the dream, my wife and I were happy together… growing old side by side…”
“Shut up,” Qin Min suddenly barked. His gaze slipped past Liang Wei and into the morgue.
On the table where Su Xiaoxiao’s body had been, only a head, two legs, and two arms remained, her upper body was gone.
“Su Xiaoxiao’s upper body is missing. Liang Wei, weren’t you on duty at the morgue last night?” Qin Min asked.
Liang Wei nodded, opening his mouth to speak, “I was… I…”
“Wait,” Qin Min raised a hand to cut him off. He ordered, “Open your mouth wider!”
Liang Wei, “Ahhh~”
In an instant, every eye turned to Liang Wei’s mouth. There, between his teeth, tiny shreds of meat, and faintly glowing specks on his teeth.
Qin Min’s face filled with disbelief as he turned to Wang Zheng and the others. “Captain Wang, yesterday I applied a thin layer of fluorescent powder to the skin tissue of Su Xiaoxiao and Sakura. Under the morgue lights, it’s invisible to the naked eye. But if anyone tampered with the bodies, the powder would stick, and under dim light, it would glow faintly, helping us locate any missing organs or body parts.”
“And right now, Liang Wei’s teeth are covered in fluorescent powder…”
“He ate Su Xiaoxiao’s upper body!”
“Oh my God!”
Liang Wei, “???”
