- Chapter 144 - Crying Echoes in the Morgue
Liang Wei sat at the doorway, nodding off in a daze. Chen Shu’s sudden appearance snapped him awake. “What are you doing here?”
“I want to…” Chen Shu bent down, his voice sincere. “I want to see my sister one last time. Please open the door for me.”
“Hmm?” Liang Wei was momentarily stunned. “She’s already dead. What’s there left to see?”
Chen Shu glanced under the bed inside Liang Wei’s room and said, “You should understand this feeling better than me, right? Even though she’s gone, I… I still can’t let go. I want to say a few things to her, from my heart.”
“Oh, oh… that, I do understand better than you,” Liang Wei said, raising his hand to pat Chen Shu on the shoulder. “Brother, my condolences. Look at me, my wife’s gone too, and I’m still living happily, aren’t I?” As he spoke, Liang Wei stood up and opened the door.
“Go on, have your last look at your sister.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep watch here. No one will disturb you two siblings.”
Chen Shu nodded. “Thank you.”
Once Chen Shu entered the morgue, Liang Wei shut the door with a crisp click.
Standing outside the door, Liang Wei muttered, “Good, very good. Now I can move my wife. When you come out, I’ll dismember your sister’s upper half. If the police ask tomorrow, I’ll tell them you did everything!”
“Damn you, holding my weakness over me all this time. I’ll make sure you have nothing left to hold!”
After standing at the door for a while, Liang Wei pressed his ear against the door and heard quiet sobbing from inside. Then he hurried back into his room, he pulled out his wife’s head from under the bed, then her two legs and two arms.
“Wife, just wait a little longer. Soon I’ll put you back together completely. But for now, you can’t stay here. Go take a little trip outside first.”
Hugging his wife’s remains in one hand and holding an iron shovel in the other, Liang Wei ran toward the back of the hospital. There lay a stretch of desolate land overgrown with weeds.
Liang Wei dug a pit and gently laid his wife’s parts inside. But he didn’t rush to cover it with dirt, this was only the first step of his plan!
Once Chen Shu left the morgue, he’d move to the second step, getting his hands on Su Xiaoxiao’s upper half!
As for why he picked Su Xiaoxiao and not Sakura Yamamoto? Three reasons.
First, he had a grudge against Chen Shu. Taking his sister’s upper half counted as revenge. Second, Sakura Yamamoto’s father was a detective. He didn’t dare mess with her. Third, despite Su Xiaoxiao’s silly and naive appearance, she was the very definition of “big boobs, no brains.” Her upper half was far more well-endowed than Sakura Yamamoto’s, making her much more of a match for his wife.
Liang Wei yanked some weeds over. He casually covered his wife’s remains and whispered, “Love you, wife. See you later.”
“Chen Shu, hurry up and kill him already. I can’t take this psycho anymore, this isn’t acting at all.”
“Don’t rush. Maybe Chen Shu wants to let him gloat a little before killing him.”
“The more I look at his wife, the prettier she seems… I must be sick.”
Inside the morgue, Chen Shu lifted the white cloth covering Su Xiaoxiao.
His gaze swept over her body up and down. Then, as his nose twitched, he suddenly collapsed onto the floor, staring at Su Xiaoxiao’s face, crying, “Sis… you shouldn’t have died. I said I’d make sure you lived… Why… why did you do this…”
“I… I’m so sorry…”
“Sob… sob…”
Chen Shu choked on his sobs, his body trembling. The camera on his chest shook with him. His crying wasn’t loud, but in the dead silence of the morgue, it echoed clearly into the live stream.
“Jeez… Chen Shu is way too into this. It’s just acting, his real sister isn’t dead.”
“What do you know? This is what real professionalism looks like.”
“Exactly. Even though Chen Shu isn’t an actor by trade, his acting is just as good as Liang Wei’s, those movie kings.”
“Not an actor? His cons rely on acting. His crimes and acting go hand in hand, you can’t separate the two.”
In the hotel, Su Xiaoxiao stopped eating her snail noodles. Her mouth puckered slightly, and Chen Shu’s performance clearly stirred her feelings. Her eyes began to turn red.
“Tch,” Sakura Yamamoto sneered from the other side while slurping a bowl of snail noodles. “Crying, crying, crying. All he does is cry. What kind of man is that? And you too, don’t cry in front of me.”
Su Xiaoxiao glared at her. “What do you know? I’ve worked with Chen Shu for so long. We’ve built real feelings between us. Sure, it’s acting, but our bond as siblings is genuine. Not like you, after you ‘died,’ your dad didn’t even shed a tear. Are you sure you’re not adopted?”
Sakura Yamamoto snapped back, “You’re the adopted one! Your whole family’s adopted!”
Su Xiaoxiao’s eyes flared wide. “╰(`□′)╯”
Sakura Yamamoto smirked. “What, gonna hit me?”
Su Xiaoxiao huffed. “Give me back my snail noodles. You’re not getting any more. Go buy your own!”
Sakura Yamamoto took a big noisy slurp. “Like I care? And don’t fool yourself, Chen Shu’s not really crying for you. He knows after this show ends, his ‘perfect crime’ won’t work anymore. Tomorrow he’s getting arrested. He’s just crying over losing the prize money!”
“You’re such a materialistic woman!” Su Xiaoxiao shot back.
“Excuse me?”
Back in the morgue, Chen Shu kept crying. Maybe he’d gotten too deep into the role, because his whole body suddenly collapsed onto the ground.
At the same time, the camera on his chest aimed downward. The live stream went pitch black!
“Sob… sob…”
His sobbing continued, the camera jolted violently. As if Chen Shu was shaking uncontrollably with grief! No one knew how long he cried…
It felt like some time had passed. Finally, the camera tilted upward again. Chen Shu turned and pushed open the morgue door, walking out.
At the door, Liang Wei’s head drooped, nearly asleep.
“Ahhh. You’re finally done. I heard you crying in there… you sounded so sad. I didn’t have the heart to interrupt.” Liang Wei smiled.
Chen Shu asked, “What time is it?”
Liang Wei glanced at the clock inside the room. “Yawn… almost six in the morning.”
“Oh,” Chen Shu nodded. Then he pulled a soft, white bun from his coat pocket and held it out to Liang Wei. Staring directly into Liang Wei’s eyes, he softly murmured, “You’ve been keeping watch here a long time. You must be hungry, right?”
“I’ve got a bun here. Eat it.”
“If you’re hungry. Go on, eat it.”
Liang Wei rubbed his eyes. Maybe it was because he’d been sitting so long, but his head felt fuzzy. He took the bun from Chen Shu’s hand. “Yeah… guess I am a little hungry. Thanks. I won’t be polite then.”
He took a big bite of the soft bun. Juices oozed out, coating his teeth.
“I’m heading upstairs to sleep,” Chen Shu said, tossing the words over his shoulder as he turned and walked up to the second floor.
After he left, Liang Wei wiped the juice from his mouth. He stood up, grinning. “I’ve eaten… time to get to work. Someone your age should know better than to sleep so much, huh?”
Creak. He pushed open the morgue door, and slipped inside.
“Heh heh… Wife… you’ll finally be complete!”
