Haicheng Central Hospital, second floor, nurse’s office.

The room was sealed off with police tape, and several officers stood guard at the entrance, securing the scene. At that moment, Wang Zheng and his three companions were walking toward the office.

“How much of what Liang Wei and Chen Shu said do you think is actually believable?” Wang Zheng suddenly asked as they entered the hallway.

“Liang Wei’s words can’t be trusted,” Qin Min was the first to respond. “He said earlier that his injury was from a fall, but the wound on his right leg is concave, not the kind of abrasion you’d get from falling. And typically, if someone falls, the injury would be on the knee. His is below the knee.”

“As for Chen Shu…”

“He claimed he was in the bathroom during the incident. Officers already checked, and there was still lingering heat in the toilet bowl… you get the idea.”

Yamamoto Yuu snorted coldly. “Any alibi can be faked. I can’t believe my daughter got into a struggle with some sickly girl and just accidentally fell to her death. Unless there was a third party involved, this is practically impossible!”

“Mr. Yamamoto, I understand how difficult this is for you,” Qin Min said. “But I’m just analyzing the case based on the current clues. We should know more after we investigate the scene.”

Soon, the four of them arrived at the nurse’s office. The officer guarding the door opened it for them. What greeted their eyes was utter chaos.

A toppled filing cabinet, papers strewn across the floor, and scuff marks on the concrete floor indicating a struggle. It had clearly been a loud altercation.

Yamamoto Yuu was the first to duck under the police tape and enter. He put on gloves and crouched beside the fallen filing cabinet. Gripping the edge, he gave it a firm push.

“Ha, just as I suspected. This kind of commotion couldn’t have been caused by two women alone. This filing cabinet is so heavy that even adult men would struggle to topple it, let alone a dying girl like one of them was.”

Su Hao Ran walked over. “Mr. Yamamoto, this cabinet is pretty old. If there was a hard collision, it could have been knocked over. But I get what you’re saying.”

“Huh?” Just then, Wang Zheng looked toward the wall behind the cabinet. He spotted four small wheels. Putting on gloves, he bent down and picked them up.

“These are caster wheels from a chair. Someone disassembled them, grouped them into two pairs, and wrapped them with layers of medical suturing thread creating two pulley mechanisms.”

Su Hao Ran examined the toppled cabinet. “These devices were likely inserted into the upper rear corners of the cabinet, wedged against the wall. When someone pulls the thread wrapped between them, the pulleys activate and create a mechanical leverage making it much easier to tip the cabinet with minimal force.”

Qin Min looked a little confused. He took one of the pulley devices to the wall. Using his left hand to simulate the cabinet, he pressed the device to the wall. Then he grabbed the suturing thread with his right hand and pulled.

The pulley spun, jerking his left hand upward with enough force to nearly throw him off balance.

“Whoa,” Qin Min exclaimed. “If both devices were placed behind the top of the cabinet, pulling this thread would absolutely do the trick. And since the cabinet’s old, it wouldn’t take much force at all!”

Wang Zheng frowned. “So this cabinet didn’t fall over from impact. Someone planned it. But who?”

The three exchanged glances, then said in unison, “Yamamoto Sakura!”

“Bakana!” (Impossible!) Yamamoto Yuu roared. “My daughter is dead, she’s the victim! You think she set this up to kill someone with the cabinet?”

“Mr. Yamamoto, calm down,” Wang Zheng said. “This was your daughter’s office. Only she could’ve installed something like this behind the cabinet without raising suspicion.”

Su Hao Ran added, “Don’t forget, you promised us you’d approach this case objectively. Yes, your daughter is the victim, but we must follow the evidence, not emotion.”

Yamamoto Yuu took a breath and cooled down. “Fine. I admit, what you’re saying makes sense. But who was she trying to kill with this device? Su Xiaoxiao? Did she know Su Xiaoxiao planned to attack her, and so she set a trap in advance?”

“But here’s the thing, you’ve all seen the scene. Su Xiaoxiao didn’t die from this trap. Yet the cabinet was already toppled.”

“What does that suggest?”

“It means my daughter never actually used this trap to kill Su Xiaoxiao. Maybe it was just meant to scare her off, to make her back down.”

“But… Su Xiaoxiao still ended up dying alongside her.”

“You’ve seen what my daughter was capable of. Do you really think a sickly girl like Su Xiaoxiao could’ve pulled my daughter down with her by the hair? Obviously, someone helped Su Xiaoxiao!”

Yamamoto Yuu made a compelling point. The room fell silent. Everyone continued combing the area around the cabinet for more clues. Suddenly, Su Hao Ran called out, “Found something! Everyone, look at this!”

They all gathered around and looked in the direction he pointed. There, on the bottom side of the cabinet near the center, were faint traces of blood and fragments of torn skin.

“This was left by Liang Wei!”

“He got caught under the cabinet when Yamamoto Sakura used it against him. That’s how he injured his leg. Now that the investigation team has found these traces, Liang Wei’s done for.”

“He never expected Yamamoto Sakura to die, so he didn’t bother cleaning up the scene!”

“Maybe Chen Shu didn’t expose him because he plans to use this to clear Su Xiaoxiao’s name?”

“No, it’s not that simple. Even though the scene has evidence tying Liang Wei to the incident, he could still make up another excuse. If Chen Shu lets him off, it’s probably because he wants a bigger revenge.”

“In short, Liang Wei is now a fish on the chopping block. Chen Shu can do whatever he wants with him. And Liang Wei doesn’t even realize that it was Chen Shu who killed Sakura, he still thinks it was his own threats that pushed Su Xiaoxiao to act.”

“Liang Wei: At this point, I’d rather just get taken out immediately.”

“Oh right, don’t forget, when Chen Shu left the room earlier, he intentionally left his fingerprints on the surgical spade.”

“Wait, what?”

“Yeah! Chen Shu had a solid alibi, so I was wondering why he took off his gloves and touched the spade. I thought maybe he was suicidal. But now it looks like he’s planning something even bigger!”
