- Chapter 138 - Still Warm
“Captain Wang, it’s confirmed, both of them are dead.” Qin Min stood up after examining the two bodies and looked at Wang Zheng. Wang Zheng furrowed his brows, his gaze fixed on Su Xiaoxiao’s right hand, still tightly clutching Yamamoto Sakura’s hair.
Before he could speak, Yamamoto Yuu, standing nearby, twisted his face into a grimace.
When he got the call at the police station, he was excited. He thought tonight would be the moment his daughter finally began her turn as the criminal. But the moment he stepped into this half-abandoned hospital, two bodies had fallen from above and one of them was Sakura.
In this show, she hadn’t even started committing a crime before her “wrap party” arrived early.
Yamamoto Yuu had once sworn to Station Director Wu Hong that his daughter would absolutely replace Chen Shu and become the new lead of the show. The production team even rigged things behind the scenes to hand her the protagonist role.
And this is how it ends? Without even making a sound?
Yamamoto Yuu felt like his face was on fire from the embarrassment. He took a deep breath to calm himself. Since his daughter had failed to succeed in her criminal role, the only way to save face now was for him, as her father, to take action.
Catch the killer, crack the case. That was the only way forward.
“Judging by the scene,” Su Haoran said, “It seems the patient in the hospital gown had some sort of conflict with Sakura. During their struggle, they accidentally fell from the building.”
Yamamoto Yuu turned to Su Haoran and pointed at Su Xiaoxiao. “Are you saying this sickly girl is the one who killed my daughter?”
Su Haoran shrugged. “Mr. Yamamoto, I understand how you feel, but don’t get emotional. This is only a preliminary judgment.”
“Sis… Sister!” Just then, with the help of two officers, Chen Shu came walking out of the building. His voice was hoarse.
“Captain Wang, we’ve secured the crime scene. We found this person inside,” one of the officers reported. Everyone immediately turned their attention to Chen Shu.
His steps were shaky as he approached Su Xiaoxiao’s body on the ground, his eyes brimming with tears, his hands pulling at his own hair in despair.
He looked dazed, as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, still trying to process it.
“Dr. Chen, what exactly happened here?” Wang Zheng asked.
“I… I don’t know…” Chen Shu’s voice trembled with emotion.
Su Haoran followed up, “Did your sister have any conflicts with this nurse before?”
“N-No…” Chen Shu shook his head, but then paused. “Wait, my sister had leukemia. The hospital’s bone marrow bank had no match for her, only Nurse Sakura was a compatible donor.”
“I once offered her a lot of money to donate her marrow and save my sister’s life, but she refused. After that, I didn’t ask her again. I mean… it’s something that has to be voluntary, right?”
At that, Qin Min added, “When I entered the hospital just now, I thought I heard someone shouting, ‘If I can’t live, you don’t get to either.’ I think it came from that patient. If that’s the case, then maybe she tried to force the nurse to donate marrow, got rejected, and things escalated into a physical struggle, ending in their fall?”
Chen Shu immediately said, “When I opened the office door, I saw my sister grabbing her hair. I screamed and begged her to stop, but… I was too late…”
He looked at Su Xiaoxiao’s lifeless body again and murmured “She didn’t want to… why force her?”
“You silly girl… I told you I wouldn’t let you die…”
Hearing this, Yamamoto Yuu stormed over and grabbed Chen Shu by the collar.
“Where were you when this happened? What were you doing? Why did you just happen to appear at the scene?”
As soon as the question dropped, the livestream chat exploded.
“He was taking a dump.”
“A very satisfying one, apparently.”
“Damn, Chen Shu planned this all along. He killed Sakura and set up an alibi.”
“Yeah, it didn’t go exactly as planned, but that alibi still works.”
Chen Shu answered, “Before it happened, I was in the restroom. I’ve been a little constipated lately, so I was in there for a while. If you don’t believe me, go check the toilet. This hospital is old, and the water pressure is awful. The toilet can’t flush properly.”
“So… It should still be warm.”
Yamamoto Yuu’s eyelid twitched, his teeth chattering with rage. He didn’t believe for a second that Su Xiaoxiao had killed his daughter. Even if the scene suggested that, it just didn’t add up. Could a frail girl really wrestle with Sakura that long and then accidentally fall with her?
It just wasn’t possible!
But now, Chen Shu’s alibi… was so bizarre that he didn’t even know how to refute it. What, was he supposed to go check a turd? See if it was still warm?
Then Chen Shu hurriedly added, “I was the one who called the police. After I finished in the restroom, I went to check on my sister, but she wasn’t in her hospital bed.”
Wang Zheng asked, “She wasn’t in bed, and your first reaction was to call the police? Why?”
“Because… she didn’t have many days left,” Chen Shu said. “She told me before that she wanted to live, that she wants Sakura to donate her bone marrow. So I figured maybe she went looking for her… I was afraid she’d do something crazy, so I called the police in advance. But… the worst still happened…”
“Hmm,” Wang Zheng nodded. “We’ll be looking into your statement.”
He then turned to Qin Min. “Forensic Qin, move the bodies to the morgue. Once we’ve finished processing the scene, do a full autopsy. Let’s confirm whether they died from the fall or something else.”
Qin Min nodded.
But Chen Shu suddenly shouted, “No, Captain Wang! You can’t put my sister in the morgue! Lately, corpses have been getting their organs stolen there. If her body goes missing, I won’t let this go!”
“Don’t worry,” Wang Zheng reassured him. “Actually, this gives us a chance to catch whoever’s behind the thefts.”
Chen Shu snapped, “Are you dumb? If the thief sees people stationed outside, they obviously won’t make a move!”
Qin Min patted Chen Shu’s shoulder. “True, your hospital doesn’t have security cameras, but we’ve reviewed surveillance from nearby. No one suspicious came near your facility. So I’m almost certain the one stealing the organs… works inside your hospital.”
“Don’t worry. We’ll handle it.”
Just then, at the officers’ call, the morgue’s caretaker came out, eyes dazed and limping.
Liang Wei, “?”
