- Chapter 12 - Wang Zheng's Deception Unmasks the Accomplice
Su Xiaoxiao lifted her head and met Wang Zheng’s sharp gaze.
At the same time, Chen Shu’s instructions kept replaying in her mind. Right now, all she knew was that she didn’t recognize the person in the photo.
Yes, she was absolutely sure. She didn’t know him! No matter how much they pressured her, she would insist, she didn’t know him.
“Officer WangI… I’ve really never seen this person before. Could you… have the wrong person?”
Su Xiaoxiao’s voice rang out. Her face carried a trace of innocent confusion, as if she were trying to figure out why these people were looking for her.
She had done nothing wrong!
At this moment, her acting skills were on full display. If the audience hadn’t witnessed everything, they might have doubted that this seemingly harmless girl… Could she really be the murderer? Could she really have killed someone? Unbelievable.
“Damn, Su Xiaoxiao is something else! Her acting almost fooled me, she looks way too innocent.”
“Yeah, that amateur Chen Shu just lucked out. With Su Xiaoxiao’s acting, he can last a few more days.”
“Captain Wang, let her go already! She didn’t kill anyone, lol.”
The audience marveled at Su Xiaoxiao’s performance, but to Wang Zheng, this was nothing new. Wasn’t this exactly how criminals with strong psychological endurance behaved?
Then, suddenly, Wang Zheng smiled at Su Xiaoxiao, pulled out his phone, and made a call. “Hello, Haoran, how’s it going over there?”
Su Haoran’s voice came through the phone. It wasn’t loud, but since Su Xiaoxiao was nearby, she heard it clearly, “Captain Wang, we’ve got him. He confessed everything. We can wrap this up.”
“Good.” Wang Zheng hung up, his expression turning cold as he glared at Su Xiaoxiao.
“Your brother has already confessed, and you’re still lying?”
“Speak!”
“How did you kill Liu Liang?”
His voice boomed like thunder, echoing through the narrow stairwell. For a moment, Su Xiaoxiao was stunned!
“What? The amateur got caught?”
“Lmao, he totally let Su Xiaoxiao down. She’s fighting back so hard, and he just folds under pressure?”
“He probably thought the cops were after Su Xiaoxiao, but surprise! They went straight for him!”
“Director, switch the screen already!”
Inside the director’s room, hearing that Chen Shu had confessed, Zhang Sheng was shocked. This guy gave up that quickly? At least try to hold out a little!
But thinking about it, he wasn’t surprised. Chen Shu was an amateur. Even if he tried to act tough, his expressions would give him away. Meanwhile, with Su Xiaoxiao’s acting skills, she could at least stall for time. An amateur is an amateur, no surprises there.
Earlier, when the investigation team questioned Su Xiaoxiao, Zhang Sheng had the broadcast focus entirely on her. As for Chen Shu? He went off to the countryside, so they cut his screen time. Too frustrating to watch.
But now, he was curious. What did Chen Shu look like in the interrogation room?
He immediately ordered the crew to switch to a split-screen. Soon, the live stream was divided into two. But to everyone’s surprise, Chen Shu wasn’t arrested! He was in his kitchen, grilling lamb skewers, happily humming a tune.
“Wait, didn’t Su Haoran say he was caught? Why is he still grilling meat at home?”
“I get it! Captain Wang was bluffing Su Xiaoxiao!”
“Yeah! They never caught Chen Shu. The police didn’t even know who her accomplice was! They only knew from her records that she had a brother.”
“Su Xiaoxiao hesitated when she heard her brother was caught. That reaction confirmed that she does have an accomplice, her brother!”
“She totally believes it too. She knows her brother wouldn’t last in an interrogation.”
“This is genius! The investigation team just nailed two birds with one stone!”
“Damn, these detectives are sneaky! Even we got fooled!”
Back at the school, Su Xiaoxiao froze. Her brother confessed?
She wasn’t too surprised. Just like the audience guessed, she knew exactly what kind of person her brother was. He couldn’t withstand an interrogation.
But then… suddenly, she remembered what her brother had told her during their practice interrogation last night, “They will try to trick you. You have to stand your ground. Don’t let them lead you!”
In an instant, Su Xiaoxiao’s mind cleared. It was like a veil had been lifted. Of course the police would come for her, that was inevitable. But they had no way of knowing her brother was the accomplice. So why would they arrest him? It didn’t make sense!
Which meant… their conversation was fake and they were testing her!
Su Xiaoxiao tensed up. That was close! She almost fell for it. Luckily, her brother’s warning had stuck with her. “Officer Wang, I really don’t know Liu Liang…”
“You must have the wrong person…”
“I have no idea how he died…”
“I… I really don’t know. Please don’t scare me…”
Her eyes turned red, tears welling up. She perfectly displayed fear and helplessness on her face.
Wang Zheng smiled and said, “Alright, maybe I really made a mistake. Sorry, little girl, didn’t mean to scare you. Go back to class, okay? I apologize.”
“We’re leaving.” With that, Wang Zheng turned and walked down the stairs.
At the school gate, he got into a police car. “Captain Wang, how’d it go?” Su Haoran asked from the passenger seat.
“We got her.”
“When she heard her brother was caught, she froze for a moment.”
“So, there’s no doubt. Her accomplice is her brother.”
