How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 425
At the gate, Zhan Lian blows his whistle.
Luo Feifan immediately breaks away from Wang Wei and rushes outside, igniting a large fire at the entrance. The swarming mutant mice burn alive, screeching as the scent of roasted meat fills the air.
An Ran reaches out and pats Zhao Ru on the shoulder—a silent signal that danger is coming and she should take care of herself. Then An Ran runs out of the clothing store, grabs the upper part of the guardrail with both hands, leans over it, and summons her fat thorn ball, sending it toward the main entrance.
The mice keep pouring in—someone has to guard the door.
Over time, An Ran has silently taken on full responsibility for the side entrance, never asking for help, allowing others to feel safe inside the mall. But not a single Strength-Type Ability User ever stops to think—whose effort makes that safety possible?
After all, An Ran’s ability can be considered a long-range offensive type.
She moves the fat thorn ball to the front entrance not because the mutant mice are that dangerous, but because she wants to support Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan, giving them more time to handle the copper-skinned zombies outside.
Sure enough, as Zhan Lian carves his way through the swarm with flying knives, he glances down at the fat thorn ball bouncing at his feet. Without hesitation, he pulls Luo Feifan along and charges ahead.
Luo Feifan shouts back, “An Ran, hold the door!”
He knows An Ran can’t be underestimated. Since Zhan Lian trusts her to guard the rear, Luo Feifan is at ease leaving it to her too.
Outside the mall, Luo Feifan leaves a trail of fire in his wake. Each fireball explodes with a crackling boom—one blast can melt the skin off several zombies. Zhan Lian’s flying knives spin into a deadly stream, slicing through the flames and piercing into the copper-skinned zombies’ brains.
The two work in perfect sync, mowing down copper-skinned zombies in droves.
Yun Tao leads Liang Ziyu into the thick smoke and fire.
Liang Ziyu reaches out and grabs a scorched copper-skinned zombie—but immediately screams, “Ah!!!” as his hands turn red from the burns. He looks at his blistering palms, on the verge of tears.
In truth, Strength-Type Ability Users can handle these copper-skinned zombies. One effective method is to knock the zombie down, step on its spine, grab its head with both hands, and twist it clean off with brute strength—pulling the long spine out along with it.
Yun Tao has taught this technique to Liang Ziyu, who’s about to try it himself—until he burns his hands.
Up ahead, Yun Tao laughs and effortlessly yanks the spine out of a zombie underfoot. Then, without saying much, he tosses a rolled-up strip of gray fur to Liang Ziyu. Liang Ziyu catches and unrolls it—it’s the hide of a mutant mouse.
“Wrap it!”
Wisdom comes from experience. Yun Tao waves his hand at Liang Ziyu. He himself is wearing three pairs of leather gloves. After pummeling countless mutant mice, the outermost pair is already in tatters.
So Yun Tao has skinned a few rats on the spot and wrapped the hides around his gloves.
And honestly, those mutant rat pelts are extremely tough and durable—much more wear-resistant than regular leather gloves. They figure they can skin more rats in the future, clean and dry the pelts, maybe roast them a bit too, and use them as makeshift gloves. It’s actually a pretty good idea.
Liang Ziyu immediately wraps the two pieces of mutant mouse hide around his hands, then charges forward again. Together with Yun Tao, he seizes a copper-skinned zombie that’s been roasted bright red.
