How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 424
Why do those Strength-Type Ability Users act like they’re in danger and have to flee to Xiangcheng?
Liang Ziyu can see that Yun Tao is doing well, and the reason he’s so angry is because—aside from himself and Yun Tao—none of the other Strength-Type Ability Users are stepping up to fight the mutant mice anymore. That includes, but isn’t limited to, the three ability users under Liang Ziyu himself.
He and Zhao Ru were college classmates. Setting aside the bond of their student days, just based on his feelings for Zhao Ru, wherever she goes, he follows. His anger comes from this bitter realization: the warmth and coldness of the world, this so-called life and death—none of it matters to anyone but him. It’s all about Zhao Ru.
But the moment another water-based Strength-Type Ability User appears, everyone switches sides. One by one, they choose to follow Wang Wei and Xu Lier to Xiangcheng.
As a result, the atmosphere in the mall grows tense and chaotic. All the Strength-Type Ability Users gather together, while Wang Wei pulls Luo Feifan aside to talk about splitting supplies.
Luo Feifan isn’t trying to make things difficult. In the apocalypse, it’s normal for people to come together and then part ways.
Wang Wei doesn’t make any unreasonable demands either. They only take the supplies that belong to them and don’t touch any of Zhan Lian’s stockpile.
Up until now, relations have been good, but after this, only a few people remain in the team. Just as Zhao Ru predicted, many are planning to leave early the next morning. Now, on An Ran’s side, only two Strength-Type Ability Users remain: Yun Tao and Liang Ziyu.
Then there’s Luo Feifan and Zhan Lian, both top-tier combatants. An Ran handles support and decision-making, Zhao Ru takes care of water and cooking, Heng Heng helps look after the children, and Little Mint is responsible for battlefield cleanup.
The group has dwindled to a pitiful number.
But no one complains—not a word. Everyone has their own goals. Those who want to leave for the seemingly safer interior of Xiangcheng choose to leave. Those who stay behind have no objections to An Ran’s decisions. In a way, the team now feels more unified.
“An Ran, look! Copper-skinned zombies are coming!”
Zhao Ru stands by the window of a clothing store outside the maternity and baby shop, holding a bucket of water as she shouts.
Inside, Doll rolls over on the crawling mat—turning more and more like a little ball of meat.
When An Ran hears Zhao Ru shout, she quickly asks Little Mint to keep an eye on Doll and make sure they don’t roll off the mat.
She runs to the clothing store window, and sure enough, behind the mass of mutant mice is a group of copper-skinned zombies. They’re sticking out their long tongues to catch and eat the mutant mice on the ground.
“Why are there so many copper-skinned zombies? And what’s that in the middle?” An Ran points at a pale figure among them—one zombie in the center of the group has stark white skin—and asks curiously.
Zhao Ru looks more closely. Under the sunlight, all the copper-skinned zombies have a metallic bronze sheen on their bodies, but this particular zombie’s skin is so pale it looks like it’s been soaked in water—an unnatural, sickly white.
“What the hell?” Zhao Ru frowns as she stares at the pale zombie. “Why does it look like… soaked chicken feet?”
She’s referring to the zombie’s skin—it looks bloated and waterlogged like soaked chicken feet. The zombie itself is still humanoid and moves with surprising agility. Unlike the copper-skinned zombies, it doesn’t have a long tongue hanging from its mouth.
