How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 410
But what can Zhao Ru say?
Back when everyone is getting to know each other, Luo Feifan doesn’t mention to Wang Wei that An Ran is a wood-type ability user, nor does he bring up Little Mint’s telekinetic abilities. So Zhao Ru can’t just come out and say that An Ran’s wood-type powers are strong enough to help hold off zombies.
And Little Mint’s role? She frees up the hands of all the strength-type ability users. While other teams still have to dig out crystal nuclei after killing zombies, Little Mint can extract them all without moving a muscle.
So besides sleeping, what else can she do right now? There aren’t any zombie cores to collect in this place! When it comes to kids, what’s the harm in showing a little leniency?
Hearing Zhao Ru retort like that, Xu Li’er lets out a cold snort. “I never planned to rely on a man. I can draw water—they rely on me!”
“Oh, I see, so you’re really impressive, huh?” Zhao Ru smiles faintly, lips pressed together, and turns away.
She takes a few steps back to distance herself, clearly not intending to get close to someone like that.
Down on the first floor of the mall, An Ran wanders around until she finally spots two flowerbeds outside the side entrance. She calls to the fat thornball in her mind, and it immediately rolls out from under the car, bumps against her ankle, and rolls out the side door on its own. It crawls into one of the flowerbeds, digs a little, and plants itself in the soil, settling right in.
An Ran finds the sight amusing. She gives it a few ‘candies’, then stands there holding Doll, watching the scenery outside while staying connected to the thornball’s senses. The world inside the flowerbed is dull. There are bugs, sure, but nothing significant—at most, just enough to get stuck in the thornball’s teeth.
Still, better than nothing.
Just as she’s thinking about where to lure in something tastier for the fat thornball, Doll suddenly makes a humming noise. Following Doll’s gaze, An Ran looks over and spots a coin-operated bunny ride.
It’s bright and colorful. The hot pink car has two oversized bunnies on it, with big eyes and goofy buck teeth, grinning cheerfully right at Doll.
Seeing how fascinated Doll is, An Ran asks gently, “Want to ride the bunny car?”
Of course, Doll doesn’t understand, but she just keeps smiling at it. So An Ran walks over and gently places Doll in the ride. It looks clean enough. It doesn’t have power and won’t move—but that doesn’t matter. It’s already something new and exciting.
The baby waves her little arms, drooling, babbling nonsense like she’s singing. At just over four months old, she can’t even sit up properly, so An Ran has to hold her steady while she babbles away, clearly delighted.
Zhan Lian, who just finished gathering gasoline, rushes over and sees An Ran bending over, struggling to keep Doll steady in the ride. Without a word, he raises his hand—and two iron railings spring up, securing Doll gently but firmly to the seat.
An Ran lets go and straightens up, turning to see Zhan Lian jogging over. She asks, “Are the zombies here?”
“Almost. Keep Zhan Anxin safe.” Zhan Lian steps forward and suddenly pulls An Ran into a tight hug, arms wrapped securely around her waist. He lowers his head and says softly, “I’ll be right outside. Don’t be afraid. Just call, and I’ll come immediately.”
He actually seems more nervous than she is.
Caught off guard by the sudden embrace, An Ran freezes, stunned. Before she can react, Zhan Lian lets go, bends down, and plants a kiss right on her lips. Then he bends down further and gives Doll a kiss on the cheek.
And with that, he dashes off.
So fiery and bold—was that just him taking advantage?
An Ran stands there, completely stunned.
