How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 394
Zhao Ru, holding the small bottle, glances at An Ran with a somewhat dazed expression, then walks into the yard to continue practicing her water manipulation ability. Liang Ziyu stays behind, red-eyed, opening the trunks of the other vehicles and taking out several blankets.
In this residential building, when survivors pass through, supplies are almost all scavenged—even the quilts on the beds are taken. Since there are so many people here now, everyone gets a quilt to cushion themselves so they can sleep comfortably tonight.
An Ran sits in the car, flipping through the small clothes in her hand. Watching Liang Ziyu busy at work, she sighs silently.
After a while, Little Mint, who has been standing outside the car holding the flashlight, spreads out her palm toward An Ran and asks, “Sister, what is this?”
An Ran sits on the edge of the car, looks at it by flashlight, and asks, “Is this the crystal core in your pocket?”
“I don’t know. It just appeared in my hand out of nowhere.”
Little Mint looks confused and hands the small crystal core to An Ran. When she turns her palm over, another crystal core appears.
“That’s it. Whenever I think about turning over the crystal cores in the ground, they appear.”
An Ran takes the crystal cores from Little Mint. After thinking for a moment, she pats the storage box beside her and asks, “What’s in here? Can you take something out?”
Little Mint tilts her head, looks at the plastic storage box beside An Ran, and ends up holding an extra hat in her hand. She panics a little and throws the hat on the ground. With a pale face, she asks, “Sister, where did this hat come from?”
“Don’t panic, don’t panic,” An Ran says, trying to calm her down. She’s also a little scared inside. The box beside her has just been searched through, and indeed, there’s a box of hats inside. The hat in Little Mint’s hand came from that box.
Unexpectedly, after her fever, Little Mint isn’t a strength-type ability user nor one of the elemental types. Instead, it seems she’s developed a telekinesis-like power to retrieve things from a distance. The variety of abilities in this world is really complicated.
Liang Ziyu happens to come over carrying a few quilts. Seeing An Ran and Little Mint looking strange, he asks, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, just a small problem,” An Ran says politely, smiling at Liang Ziyu. Then she turns away and continues packing Doll’s autumn clothes. She isn’t very familiar with Liang Ziyu and hasn’t yet encountered a problem that requires his help.
After Liang Ziyu leaves, An Ran says to Little Mint, “It’s okay. I think maybe this is the compensation God gave you after your disaster, giving you an ability. Although I don’t know exactly what your ability is for, in this world, having an ability always makes you better off than ordinary people.”
“It’ll be much more convenient for me to get crystal cores for Sister in the future.”
Little Mint doesn’t overthink it like An Ran does. After a brief panic, she realizes that as long as she wants, she doesn’t need to bend down or dig in the soil to find crystal cores. The cores will automatically jump out of the ground and come to her hands.
Realizing this, Little Mint is quite happy.
An Ran smiles, touches Little Mint’s head with pity, and sighs, “You will have sweet rewards after bitter hardship, believe me.”
Little Mint doesn’t care whether it will happen or not; as long as she’s with An Ran, that’s enough.
As they talk, they slowly take out the things they need from the truck and move them back into the yard.
