- Chapter 382 - What Are You Still Standing There For
“Captain Luo, help me!” Zhao Ru shouts in panic.
Without hesitation, Luo Feifan hurls a fireball that lands squarely on the zombie chasing her.
Behind Zhang Boxun, the copper-skinned sensory zombie changes targets after hearing Zhao Ru’s scream. It locks onto Tang Siluo, who is behind Luo Feifan, leaps over Zhang Boxun, and shoots its tongue toward Tang Siluo’s back.
Zhao Ru turns and sees another ordinary sensory zombie behind Zhang Boxun. Its tongue stretches toward Zhao Qianrong. Horrified, Zhao Ru runs toward her aunt again.
Seeing that Zhang Boxun is closest to both her aunt and the zombie, she pleads desperately, “Captain Zhang, save my aunt! Please, save my aunt!”
Tang Siluo also screams, but Zhang Boxun turns and runs toward the copper-skinned sensory zombie behind Tang Siluo, leaving Zhao Qianrong—who is closest to him—behind.
Zhao Ru watches helplessly as her aunt is killed by the ordinary zombie. Its tongue wraps around Zhao Qianrong, wheelchair and all, and drags her into the sea of fire. Zhao Ru stands frozen, staring as her aunt’s gray hair flutters in the flames. Her aunt is smiling.
“Zhao Ru, run! What are you still standing there for?!” An Ran’s voice rings out from several cars away. She sees that most people are fleeing much faster than them. With children in tow, and the front of the group too congested, their little group quickly falls to the rear.
No one is coming to help them.
Zhan Lian holds Doll in one arm and drags An Ran with the other as they sprint forward. But in this chaotic scene, An Ran can’t worry about much else. She scatters a handful of flower seeds from her palm, and green vines shoot up along the ground.
But it’s no use. Plants that grow on soil can’t match the speed of those that grow on flesh and blood. And even if they do grow fast, there are copper-skinned sensory zombies, fire, flying knives, and metal spikes everywhere—what can her plants do? Her ability is nothing more than a drop in the ocean—far too limited!
“Aunt! Aunt! Aunt!!!” Zhao Ru snaps out of her daze and rushes toward the sea of fire.
Luo Feifan grabs her by the waist, holds her back, and throws another fireball, striking the ordinary zombie that has dragged Zhao Qianrong away with its tongue.
An Ran’s green vines also wrap around the zombie. Within seconds, the vines devour the ordinary zombie. Zhao Qianrong tumbles to the ground, her wheelchair overturned. Behind her, flames surge wildly as a layer of green vines covers her body.
But vines are wood, and wood catches fire easily. An Ran’s plants won’t last long. If nothing changes, the fire will consume Zhao Qianrong’s body.
In that split second, Zhao Ru’s heart is gripped by fear and fury. Bound by Luo Feifan’s arms, she tilts her head back and lets out a long roar.
Suddenly, heavy rain pours from the sky, extinguishing the fire—and clearing a path for more copper-skinned zombies to surge through the burning field.
Zhao Ru has pushed her ability beyond its limits. The burst of power saves her grandaunt, but she collapses, unconscious. Just before her eyes close, the last thing she sees is Zhang Boxun nailing the copper-skinned sensory zombie to the ground, then grabbing the dazed Tang Siluo and rushing over.
Among the survivors still running ahead, Liang Ziyu drops the truck he has been carrying. Without his support, Yun Tao and the others roar and struggle to lift it again, trying to haul it forward through the chaos.
