How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 379
As soon as Zhang Boxun enters Tiesi Village, many survivors trapped inside seize the opportunity to escape—some by car, some on foot—hurrying to get out.
More people means more rats and more hidden dangers. At the back of the national highway group, the constant squeaking of rats never stops, and occasionally human screams pierce the air.
The survivors at the tail end of the convoy desperately try to push forward, fearing Zhang Boxun won’t hold the line and the rats inside Tiesi Village will break out. For a moment, curses and car horns blare—life suddenly feels too lively, as if the chaos isn’t enough.
An Ran’s gut twists with unease. She’s already worried about Little Mint, and now with all the noise at the back of the group, she feels like the roadside plants are sending her a message:
[Danger, run quickly.]
Frowning, she says to Zhan Lian, “I think we should move to the front of the group. It’s too noisy back here; it’ll attract the copper-skinned zombies.”
Rats are easier to handle—they have flesh and blood, and although their fur is tough, cacti can be used against them. When they retreat, An Ran sees Yun Tao picking up a cactus for planting. But copper-skinned zombies aren’t stopped by cacti.
“Okay, I’ll go check the back. Feifan, tell Yun Tao to find a few people to lift the truck.” Zhan Lian nods at Luo Feifan.
He also feels the plan won’t work—there are too many cars on the national highway, and the vehicles definitely can’t get through. It’s okay if the jeep and medical vehicle can’t pass, but the truck is full of supplies. Even if Yun Tao and Liangzi meet some ability users, they’ll have to lift the truck to the front of the team.
After speaking, Zhan Lian runs toward the back to check the situation.
Luo Feifan turns to look for Yun Tao. Tang Siluo follows him again. He turns and looks at his follower with a headache, asking, “Tang Siluo, Miss Tang, why do you leave so many old, weak, women, and children alone and always follow me?”
“Brother Feifan, aren’t you supposed to help Zhang Boxun clear Tiesi Village? My father needs someone right now, and if you don’t help him, what will he do?” Tang Siluo’s pretty face shows a hint of grievance, clearly unhappy with Luo Feifan following Zhan Lian around doing nothing useful.
Now Zhan Lian has given up entirely and doesn’t listen to Tang Jianjun’s orders. He just follows An Ran around, with no organization or discipline. Naturally, he can’t be expected to take on the responsibilities of captain of the fourth district.
But why does Luo Feifan follow Zhan Lian? Tang Siluo’s father needs help. Luo Feifan is capable and should take on more responsibility for her father. Yet Luo Feifan is doing less for him than Zhang Boxun.
“It’s not that I’m not helping, Tang Siluo, it’s not that I don’t want to.” Luo Feifan grows irritated with Tang Siluo and explains angrily, “I’m helping your dad too. Look at the chaos at the back of the group. Before Zhang Boxun arrived, Ah Lian and I were always guarding it.”
The situation is still chaotic. What about Tang Jianjun’s side? Luo Feifan hasn’t been there yet, so he doesn’t know. But the end of the team desperately needs people, and he doesn’t have time to go to Tang Jianjun now.
“Leave this to Zhang Boxun. Come with me to find my dad. Let him arrange a safe job for you.” Tang Siluo looks at Luo Feifan anxiously, blushing, and says, “Look at this group—who knows when the rats will catch up. It’s dangerous. Brother Feifan, I’m just worried about you.”
