How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 253
When a man and a woman fight, the man generally has the advantage in strength. However, in this situation, even though the man grabs Anran’s wrist, he has no chance of winning. After all, Yun Tao has already freed his hand and taken one of them down.
In the car, Zhou Xiang shakes his head, starts the engine, and drives off. By the time Yun Tao raises his fist and stands up, Zhou Xiang has already reversed the car and sped away from the highway.
It’s clear to everyone that Yun Tao’s combat skills are well-honed, and as a power user, his strength far surpasses Zhou Xiang’s group. Zhou Xiang has at most four people with him — barely enough for Yun Tao to break a sweat.
So even though they catch up to Anran, and even though Anran is restrained by a power user, Zhou Xiang still doesn’t dare to stay and chooses to flee instead.
“Brother Xiang, are we just leaving like this? Aren’t we going to capture her?” the man sitting beside Zhou Xiang asks reluctantly, glancing at him as he drives.
Zhou Xiang purses his lips, his expression cold. He sneers and says, “How? One’s already dead, and the other is still alive. What can the two of us do? Let’s go back and tell the captain first. He can figure something out.”
There’s still plenty of time. It’s only the early days of the apocalypse — supplies are still abundant. Since Zhou Xiang has already seen Anran’s face and knows she’s heading north along the national highway toward Hubei North, he isn’t worried about losing track of her.
Sooner or later, Anran will be separated from Yun Tao.
But before Zhou Xiang flees, and before Yun Tao can turn around to help her, Anran — still restrained by the man — flings a leaf at the man’s face with her free hand.
“Haha, what the hell?”
The man laughs, still gripping Anran’s wrist tightly. He sees the leaf land on his face and start to fall to the ground. Before it even touches the dirt, the leaf quickly sprouts. Tiny roots pierce into the man’s skin like maggots burrowing into bone, rapidly sucking his flesh and blood.
In moments, that single leaf grows into a thick cluster of green vines that completely envelop the man.
Moments later, all that remains is a skeleton wrapped in clothing, tangled in the mass of greenery.
Yun Tao steps forward, glances at the heap of ivy on the ground, and says to Anran, “Two of them ran off. I doubt they’ll come after us anytime soon.”
“Good. It’s best if they’re gone. Let’s go,” Anran sighs, then climbs into the car with Yun Tao.
As the vehicle continues down the highway, Anran suddenly speaks up, her voice directed at the back of Yun Tao’s head. “Brother Tao, I heard them say they seemed to be after me.”
“Are Lei Jiang and the group at the gas station connected to them?”
Yun Tao has his suspicions but hasn’t been sure until tonight. After hearing what the man, now devoured by the ivy, has let slip, things start to make sense.
Thinking back, Yun Tao recalls something and speaks to Anran without turning his head.
“The man who drove your car — did he run into Lei Jiang’s territory that day because of some internal conflict?”
“I’m not sure. But if I see my car again, I’ll do what I did today. I won’t hide. I want my husband’s car back.”
People have to live with determination — otherwise, life would be too frustrating.
Anran silently makes up her mind. From now on, she will kill anyone who stands in her way and cut down anything that threatens her.
Morality and law? Let them go to hell.
In this world, the most important thing is to live — and live well.
