How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 252
Yun Tao nods. Since Anran has decided to fight, he has no objections. He lets Anran stay in the car with Doll, then quickly slides into the driver’s seat. He glances at Little Mint and Hengheng, who are sound asleep, blissfully unaware of the danger.
Stepping on the accelerator, Yun Tao speeds toward the national highway.
The road ahead is cluttered with abandoned vehicles, creating a messy blockade. Yun Tao stops the car and begins shifting the cars by hand, stacking one atop another to create a temporary barrier.
The sound of his movements attracts nearby zombies. Some roar from inside the vehicles, while others stagger closer from the highway.
Meanwhile, Doll in Anran’s arms remains asleep. Anran gently places the child in the safety basket, reinforcing it with protective green vines. Drawing the saber from her waist, she joins the fight, cutting down zombies with her bare hands and blade.
It isn’t easy fighting this way without relying on her powers. Dealing with each zombie one by one is slow and exhausting when she could have finished the job faster using her energy.
The car that has been tailing them stops behind the newly formed barricade. Zhou Xiang and his men remain inside, watching Yun Tao move cars and Anran slice through zombies. Zhou Xiang’s eyes narrow thoughtfully. Something about this situation feels off — why have they suddenly stopped after running so far?
Two men in the backseat grow impatient. Ignoring Zhou Xiang’s silence, they get out of the car. Zhou Xiang still doesn’t move, nor does the man sitting beside him. Both stay put, keeping their eyes fixed on Anran — their so-called ‘mobile granary.’
Zhou Xiang frowns. Something isn’t right. Why have Yun Tao and Anran suddenly slowed down to deal with zombies here?
Just then, Yun Tao turns and begins walking toward them with clenched fists. Zhou Xiang’s instincts flare — this is a trap. He quickly starts the car and calls out to his two men:
“Get in the car! We’re heading back!”
“We’ve already caught them. Why go back?”
One of the men refuses to listen. Instead of returning to the car, he walks directly toward Yun Tao. The other man climbs over the vehicle barrier, heading straight for Anran.
Yun Tao glances at Anran. She has just finished off the last zombie in her section and gives him a reassuring “OK” gesture.
Seeing that, Yun Tao turns to face the man approaching him. Before Yun Tao can speak, the man barks at him rudely:
“Why are you still running? You’re out of options. Come on, hurry back with us — our captain’s got good wine, good food, and good women waiting for you. You’ve been running for so long; you must be tired. Take a break.”
Yun Tao chuckles darkly. Without warning, he swings his fist, landing a powerful punch square in the man’s chest. The man flies backward, slamming into the concrete ground with such force that cracks split across the pavement.
Meanwhile, the other man has reached Anran. Seeing Yun Tao start a fight, he doesn’t bother with pleasantries. Lunging at Anran, he sneers:
“I want to see how beautiful you are. Our captain’s set his sights on you.”
“So you really were after me,” Anran says coldly, dodging his grasp.
Raising her saber, she swings at him, but the man swiftly dodges and seizes her wrist in a vice grip. Pain shoots up her arm as the man twists her hand, forcing her fingers open. The saber clatters to the ground.
