How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 250
Although Anran’s green plants haven’t devoured any zombies in broad daylight since Lei Jiang appeared, a small patch of greenery still thrives in the sunlight, looking unusually vibrant. It gives off an unsettling feeling.
Yun Tao suspects that Lei Jiang knows something, but how did he find out?
Anran also notices Lei Jiang’s unusual enthusiasm about Yun Tao joining his survivor team. Ever since she overheard the conversation by the wall, her expression has remained tense. After hearing Yun Tao’s thoughts, she waves her hand and withdraws all her supernatural energy radiating near the motel.
Only the underground roots remain active, quietly dealing with any rats that might emerge.
On the surface, the green plants still appear present, but they no longer look so lush. After a while, under the sunlight, the leaves start to wilt slightly, resembling ordinary plants.
“Do we really have to join his survivor team?” Anran frowns, clearly disapproving.
By now, it’s obvious that something is wrong with Lei Jiang. Joining his team seems like walking straight into danger.
“No, I’m just bluffing. We’ll leave tonight and head to northern Hubei.” Yun Tao turns to Anran, his expression serious. “Don’t use your powers on the road. Just act like an ordinary woman. Let people think we’re a couple — that I’m a power user, and you rely on me to survive.”
“Okay.” Anran nods. Given the circumstances, pretending to be a couple offers some protection — and it makes things easier for her to travel safely with her child.
With their decision made, Yun Tao and Anran begin packing. Baby supplies are already prepared in the car, and they can collect more necessities along the way. Since Anran only needs to absorb energy from crystal cores and doesn’t require food, their remaining provisions are enough to sustain Yun Tao, Little Mint, and Hengheng. Fortunately, they can continue gathering supplies on the road. Once they reach northern Hubei, find the main force, and settle down, they can focus on building a new life.
After nightfall, Anran is the first to get into the car with Doll in her arms. She carries a small green radish plant in her hand. Once seated, Little Mint and Hengheng climb into the car as well.
When they heard they were leaving, Little Mint had pulled Hengheng along to collect crystal cores with their little buckets. By the time they climb into the car, their bucket is already half full — not counting the ones Yun Tao has given Anran over the past few days or the ones they’ve already set aside.
In short, Anran has more than enough crystal cores to fuel their escape from Xiangcheng without trouble.
Hengheng sits in the front passenger seat and buckles his seatbelt. Yun Tao gets in, closes the door, starts the engine, and hits the accelerator, speeding off into the night.
In the distance, Zhou Xiang stands at a window, watching the motel through a telescope. He lowers the scope and turns to a man beside him.
“Go tell the captain that Yun Tao and the woman are away. The rest of you, drive with me and follow them.”
“Got it.”
The man nods and leaves to deliver the message. Another man approaches to help Zhou Xiang pack up and asks,
“Brother Xiang, what’s so special about that guy? Why does the captain want him so badly?”
