A zombie emerges from the horde—not any larger than an ordinary one, yet distinctly different. It strides across the flowers and grass, stepping through Anran’s flower wall as if it were nothing more than paper.

The wall offers no resistance against this particular zombie. It doesn’t smash through it with brute force; it simply walks straight through, as if the plants hold no power over it.

Anran’s breath catches in her throat. Instinctively, she steps back and commands the lilies surrounding the zombie to attack, their petals stretching wide to consume it.

But the zombie doesn’t even flinch.

The lilies snap their jaws around it, but it’s like biting into steel—they can’t pierce its flesh. The zombie charges forward, unhindered.

Anran’s eyes widen in shock. She pivots behind it, drawing her saber and striking at its head. Normally, her blade can cut through iron like mud, but this time, it barely leaves a scratch, only managing to send sparks flying.

Before she can react, the zombie knocks her down into the flower field.

Its strength isn’t overwhelming, but it’s far stronger than an average zombie. Worse, its arms feel like solid iron bars, the impact sending sharp pain radiating through Anran’s body.

There’s no time to dwell on the pain. The zombie lunges at her again.

The lilies surrounding her suddenly burst into wild growth, wrapping around the creature’s head and arms. Seizing the opportunity, Anran scrambles out from under it. But the moment she’s free, the zombie tears through the vines with terrifying ease, roaring at her before lunging again.

She bolts.

While running, she digs into her pocket and grabs a handful of crystal cores, pouring their energy into the flower wall at Gate No. 1 to keep it reinforced. The last thing she can afford is for the other zombies outside to break through.

But she can’t run far.

If she leaves the area, the flower wall will weaken and collapse, allowing the swarm outside to flood in. So instead, she circles around the escalator, leading the iron-skinned zombie on a chase.

The creature isn’t intelligent. It simply follows her movements, looping around the escalator like a mindless beast instead of cutting her off.

Occasionally, it stops, tilts its head back, and lets out a guttural roar—an eerie, beast-like call.

Each time it howls, Anran feels the atmosphere shift.

Beyond the flower wall, the zombies stir. Their movements grow frenzied, their bodies pressing harder against the barrier. One zombie’s cry leads to another, and then another, until the entire horde is screaming in unison.

They’ve heard the leader’s call.

Even the zombies that had been besieging the park abandon their positions, turning toward the supermarket where Anran is.

Far away, amidst a sea of undead, Zhan Lian fights relentlessly.

He’s already carved his way through countless zombies, yet the horde remains endless.

Then, amid the carnage, he hears it.

The distant, echoing howls of the undead.

The sound spreads, carrying across the city like a ripple in water. His expression darkens as he realizes what’s happening.

Are they summoning even more zombies? Is the call reaching all of Xiangcheng?

Zhan Lian clicks his tongue in frustration, his grip on his weapon tightening.

Just what the hell has his ex-wife done to attract this many zombies?

He’s already killed plenty on her behalf, but now, even more are converging in her direction. There’s no way he can take them all down.

How long will he have to fight before he can carve a path through this endless horde and reunite with his ex-wife and daughter?

His jaw clenches. He exhales sharply and turns away from the supermarket.

If he can’t cut through them all in time, then he’ll hold the tide back himself.

For his ex-wife and daughter—

He’ll stand his ground.
