How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 210
Anran falls.
A zombie lurches toward her feet.
Yun Tao, sitting against the wall, suddenly shouts. The zombie hesitates for a second before continuing its climb up the escalator.
Snapped out of her daze by Yun Tao’s voice, Anran grits her teeth and lunges at the zombie beside her. With a swift motion, she draws the saber from her waist and cleaves the zombie’s skull in half. Before she can even extract the crystal core properly, she plunges her hand into its brain, yanks it out, and absorbs its energy on the spot.
A sudden impact from behind sends her sprawling onto the escalator. Another zombie has knocked her down.
But just as it’s about to sink its teeth into her, a pure white lily blossoms from its head. The moment the zombie leans in to bite her, the lily’s petals shoot downward, piercing into its skull and devouring its brain.
Anran seizes the opening to escape. She twists around, swiftly beheading another zombie that has climbed onto the escalator. Without hesitation, she retrieves its crystal core, absorbs the energy, and immediately grows more lilies.
With her powers now under control again, the lilies surge forward, consuming the zombies around the escalator, devouring them one by one until the entire escalator is cleared.
Finally, Anran has a moment to breathe. She climbs off the escalator and begins searching the flower field for crystal cores.
But an uneasy feeling gnaws at her.
Absorbing these crystal cores feels like a starving person being forced to eat a single grain of rice at a time. In the heat of battle, there’s no way she can afford to pick up and absorb each core individually.
How can she solve this problem?
With this anxious thought pressing on her, Anran methodically clears the zombies near the escalator.
Slowly but steadily, she works her way toward the hall, growing a flower wall near Gate No. 1 to cut off the zombies’ advance.
Though the distance between the escalator and Gate No. 1 is over three meters, it doesn’t matter. Anran’s control range is expanding, little by little. If she moves forward strategically, she can maintain control over the escalator while simultaneously reinforcing the blockade at Gate No. 1.
Her safe zone isn’t static—it moves with her, a three-dimensional sphere shifting with every step she takes.
Blocking Gate No. 1 is crucial.
Not only does Anran need rest, but she also has a baby to care for. No matter what, she has to ensure a secure space for feeding, changing, and keeping Doll safe. If Gate No. 1 remains open, the zombies will continue pouring in. Worse, if she goes upstairs to tend to Doll while the first floor is still swarming, there’s a real risk that the undead will find their way up and devour everything.
Thankfully, while her powers drain her energy at an alarming rate—absorbing crystal cores feels like burning through money—her flowers are growing more efficient. Their speed at devouring zombies is increasing.
Within an hour, the flower wall near Gate No. 1 is complete.
Thick and dense, it forms a solid blockade.
At the start, the hall was packed with an overwhelming number of zombies, but Anran drew their attention toward her, leading them into her flower field.
One by one, the flowers consume them all.
By the time she’s done, not a single zombie remains in the hall.
Satisfied that the flower wall is sturdy enough, Anran stops searching for crystal cores. For the first time in a while, she has some breathing room.
Without hesitation, she turns and makes her way toward the Watsons store across from the escalator.
