How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 206
While Yun Tao directs Liu Yuan to block the entrance, Anran stands on the second floor, leaning against the glass guardrail with a biscuit in hand, lost in thought about sealing off the mall.
She observes the situation below. The highest concentration of zombies is at the exit of Building No. 1 and the underground supermarket on the first floor. Escaping from the mall will be incredibly difficult.
But then—why leave at all?
Anran hesitates. This place has food, water, and shelter. Her flowers can devour zombies. Though her control over them is still limited, survival here isn’t a problem. In fact, she can hold out for quite some time.
If she seals the mall completely, turning it into a fortress filled with supplies, it could become a perfectly safe refuge.
Just as she is considering this, a soft humming sound comes from the maternity store. Anran turns her head, intending to check on Doll, when Liu Yuan, still on the first floor, cracks open the car’s sunroof and whispers something to her.
Anran, distracted, gives a half-hearted nod without really hearing her. Her mind is focused on Doll’s faint cries. Barely acknowledging Liu Yuan, she quickly turns around and hurries to check.
But when she reaches the maternity store, she finds Doll still peacefully asleep in the crib, having only stirred briefly. There are no signs of it waking up. Meanwhile, Little Mint remains beside the crib like a silent sentinel.
At that moment, the sound of an engine roaring to life echoes through the exhibition hall. Anran spins around and dashes back to the sky corridor.
She sees Liu Yuan’s SUV—with Yun Tao and Heng Heng inside—rolling over the lilies on the ground, pushing through the mass of zombies, and charging toward the glass doors.
Anran’s heart tightens.
Are they… leaving?
Abandoning her, Doll, and Little Mint here?
A sneer tugs at her lips. Fine. Fewer people to share the second-floor supplies.
But the car doesn’t drive away. Instead, it stops right at the escalator leading to the underground supermarket, blocking the path the zombies are using to climb up.
The entrance to the underground supermarket isn’t very large, and by parking there, Liu Yuan has effectively sealed off one of the major access points. This drastically slows down the zombie flow into the first-floor hall.
Realizing what they are doing, Anran immediately throws away the biscuit in her hand and bolts toward Escalator No. 1. She runs halfway around the exhibition hall, stopping at the spot closest to the car.
Standing at the edge of the second-floor escalator, she quickly estimates the distance—about three meters between her and Liu Yuan’s vehicle.
Without hesitation, she pours all her energy into urging the flowers on the car’s roof to attack the zombies.
The lilies that had been trampled by zombies respond to her supernatural command. Under the surge of her power, their leaves sprout and grow at an unnatural speed. The plants stretch toward her like they are answering their leader’s call, devouring zombies as they expand.
However, the underground supermarket entrance is close to the main gate. Although one passage is now blocked, Gate No. 1 remains open.
The noise from the fight only attracts more zombies, and soon, a fresh wave pours in through Gate No. 1.
The flowers on the ground bloom fiercely, tearing through the undead—only to be crushed just as quickly.
More and more zombies flood in. Layer upon layer, they come.
And now, they are closing in on her.
