How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 204
The sea of flowers blooms like a miracle. Within ten minutes, the white roof is covered with man-eating lilies.
Anran is positioned directly above the car, about three meters away in a straight line—perhaps slightly farther—but she is already at the outer limit of her control. Originally, she planned to devour all the zombies within a three-meter radius of the vehicle containing Liu Yuan, Yun Tao, and Heng Heng. However, the distance between the second and first floors is too great, and she can’t maintain control over the lilies at such a range. Though her supernatural power keeps expanding her control radius, it still isn’t enough to fully clear the zombies around the car.
Unless she jumps from the sky corridor onto the car’s roof, this is the best she can do.
The lilies manage to cover only a small section of the roof before they stop growing. They aren’t particularly active, either—it takes them ten minutes just to consume the zombies on top of the car, and they remain vulnerable to attacks at any moment.
The skylight opens, and Liu Yuan cautiously pokes her head out. She waves at Anran. Anran nods in response.
Liu Yuan places a finger to her lips in a silent gesture before mouthing a question:
[Are you okay?]
Anran shakes her head. She leans out over the guardrail, trying to get closer to the car, hoping the lilies will respond more actively. However, it makes little difference. The lilies remain sluggish, barely reacting to her proximity.
Seeing no other option, Anran gives up. Even so, this is already a significant help to Liu Yuan and Yun Tao. There is nothing more she can do. Liu Yuan understands this well—her face is filled with gratitude, though a hint of guilt flickers across her expression.
She hesitates for a moment before gesturing again and mouthing, [Brother Tao’s wound is getting inflamed.]
“Oh, I’ll go see if I can find any medicine.”
Standing on top of the exhibition hall, Anran looks at Liu Yuan expressionlessly before turning away. Carrying Doll, she straps the baby on her back, grabs Little Mint’s hand, and starts exploring the second floor.
The moment she leaves, the lilies on the car’s roof stop feeding. Liu Yuan quickly ducks back inside and shuts the skylight.
The second floor is primarily designed for children, featuring a large indoor playground and several maternity stores selling high-end brands. The chances of finding anti-inflammatory medicine here are slim. But if she can’t find proper medication, could baby disinfectant wipes work?
She considers the idea for a moment before realizing another problem—most of the storefronts are locked. How is she supposed to get inside?
Just then, Little Mint points toward the fire hydrant outside the restroom.
“Wow, do you think there’ll be fire extinguishers in there?”
Anran, momentarily excited, hurries over with Doll on her back. She opens the red fire hydrant cover and is surprised to find not just fire extinguishers but also three fire axes and a window breaker.
She hands one of the fire axes to Little Mint, takes the window breaker for herself, and makes her way toward a maternity store.
After spending some time figuring out how to use the tool, she successfully shatters the store’s locked glass door.
Inside, the store has everything a newborn might need. Anran cautiously surveys the interior, ensuring there are no hidden zombies before proceeding.
She and Little Mint lift a crib, take a fresh quilt, and place Doll inside the stroller.
She also takes the time to change Doll’s diaper.
