“Yes, sent by Renxin Institute for observation. We couldn’t contact the outside world, so we couldn’t stop them in time,” Chen Dazhuang’s words confirmed his thoughts. “It’s an old hand leading a new one. The old one’s surname is Yu, the new one’s surname is Zhang. The old one was arranged into a third-floor dormitory, the new one is in the same dormitory as me… Look, it’s this room.”

Chen Dazhuang spoke softly while leading them through the second-floor corridor towards the staircase at the other end of the corridor. When passing by a certain dormitory room, he stopped and pointed.

That dormitory door wasn’t fully closed, with some light seeping through the crack. Someone opened the door from inside and carefully poked out their head:

“Brother Chen, you’re back… Eh? It’s you?”

He looked at Yang Buqi in surprise, gradually showing some joy of meeting an old friend in a foreign land: “I remember you, you’re that one from Ciji Institute… Do you remember me? Plum Blossom Apartment, we’ve met before! You even hit me back then!”

…This kind of thing, there’s no need to say it so happily.

Yang Buqi felt his skull throbbing with pain again. Of course he remembered this guy, Xiao Zhang from Renxin Institute, the unreliable newcomer who was urgently dispatched to Plum Blossom Apartment at that time. If he remembered correctly, he had even flipped over him once…

Yang Buqi’s gaze moved downward, glancing at the name tag on his chest. It had three large characters written on it: Zhang Jinhua.

Yang Buqi: “…”

He raised his hand to cover his face, and couldn’t help but confirm with Chen Dazhuang again: “I really can’t cross the bridge now?”

Chen Dazhuang: “…Huh?”

“Or can I just drop out?” Yang Buqi persisted, “I’ll drop out first, then cross the bridge, and transfer my student status to the other side…”

Let me go.

Immediately, right now, just now.

On the other side.

Xu Turan had made a simple round in the Thinking Study Building, and when she returned to the hall, she met up with Zhu Tang and Lin Ge who had completed their enrollment registration.

Like the Aspiring Study Building, the Thinking Study Building also had a skybridge connected to the dormitory. But because there was no dormitory management committee member with a key among them, they could only honestly leave through the main door and enter the dormitory through the front door.

“What did you see when you went around just now?” As they were leaving the Thinking Study Building, Zhu Tang asked Xu Turan in a low voice, “Did you find any clues?”

“No. All the classroom doors were locked. And the stairs to the third floor were also locked, couldn’t go up,” Xu Turan said, “There were quite a few scary things though…”

Zhu Tang: “?”

“There was piano sound from the music room, someone crying in the girls’ bathroom. The eyes in the corridor murals would turn, and when you look down from the corridor you could see a bloody person waving at you…”

Xu Turan seriously listed them one by one, and as they passed the open space in front of the building, she casually pointed forward: “Look, about that position.”

They were all just scary illusions. They didn’t actually cause any harm, nor could they earn Courting Death Value.

Zhu Tang: “…”

What exactly did you experience while we were registering?

At this moment, Zhu Tang couldn’t help but fall into deep thought, the same kind as Yang Buqi.

As they spoke, they had already arrived at the entrance of the dormitory building. The lights on the first floor were on, and as soon as they entered, they saw a middle-aged woman sitting behind a window to the side, with a pale blue skin color, her eyes wide open, giving a fierce impression.

She seemed to have known in advance that new students would be enrolling, and showed no surprise at the arrival of the three. She just stiffly reached out her hand: “Forms.”

All three had copies of the registration forms left after reporting, and Xu Turan was the first to hand hers over.

The dormitory auntie looked at her form, her eyebrows noticeably twitched. After pausing for a few seconds, she put it aside and turned to the other two: “Forms.”

Zhu Tang hurriedly handed over hers and Lin Ge’s together. The dormitory auntie flipped through their forms, her expression equally subtle, but at least not as obvious as when she saw Xu Turan’s.

“Check-in confirmed. Zhu Yan Qiao Cui… Ha A Ha classmate, dormitory 206. Lin Lai Lai… Liu Nai classmate, dormitory 206. Da… Daddy classmate, dormitory 205.”

When reading Xu Turan’s name, she had clearly made a psychological effort, desperately suppressing the twitching corners of her mouth. Xu Turan heard a prompt in her mind “Gained 40 Courting Death Value points”, and gave the other a sweet smile.

“Thank you, teacher.”

Dormitory auntie: “…”

She looked as if she couldn’t be bothered to deal with it, took a bunch of keys from the wall, and led the three upstairs.

Except for the first floor, the rest of the floors were already shrouded in darkness, with only the staircase area lighting up with pale lights when people passed by. The dormitory auntie led the three to the second floor, groping in the dark towards the depths of the corridor, all the way to the last room.

“206,” she said coldly, opening the door and turning on the light. “You have half an hour to get settled. When the time is up, lights must be out.”

Zhu Tang and Lin Ge looked at each other and carefully walked in. Xu Turan poked her head in to look, her heart stirring:

“Auntie, can’t I be in the same room with them?” she tentatively asked. “This dorm has four beds, and the other two are empty.”

“Yes, yes,” Zhu Tang had been thinking about this too, and immediately nodded when she heard this. “This is a four-person dorm, right? I see there’s nothing on those two desks either…”

The dorms here were all bunk bed with desk underneath type. At this time, all four positions were empty, without any traces of people having lived there.

“I said, you’re in 205,” the dormitory auntie said expressionlessly, closing the door of 206 in front of Xu Turan, and then led her to the room across.

This room’s door was also closed, with pitch darkness inside. But the dormitory auntie didn’t open the door directly, instead she curled her fingers and started knocking on the door.

Knock knock knock knock. Four knocks in a row. Then a pause, and she called out: “Fang Xing.”

After waiting for a few seconds with no response, she knocked four times again, and called “Fang Xing” once more.

This was repeated three times before the door was finally opened.

“Hello, dormitory auntie,” a girl stood at the door, her movements appearing very tense. The room lights weren’t on.

“Mm. This is your new roommate,” the dormitory auntie indicated Xu Turan to come forward, and then said, “You now have half an hour of lights-on time. Remember to turn off the lights on time.”

With that, she turned and left.

Xu Turan poked her head out, watching her stiff silhouette disappear at the staircase. When she retracted her gaze, she saw the girl in the room holding her phone, pressing buttons quickly.

Xu Turan: “? What are you doing?”

“I’m setting an alarm,” Fang Xing said without lifting her head, “Didn’t she just say? We only have half an hour. To be safe, I’ll set the alarm for 25 minutes, you should also keep an eye on the time…”

As she spoke, she casually pressed the light switch beside her, and the light suddenly came on.

The harsh light shone down, and she closed her eyes for a moment due to discomfort. When she opened them again, she finally saw Xu Turan’s face clearly, and was visibly stunned.
