Chapter 52: Back to School Season (4)

Inside the new student registration office in the Thinking Study Building.

Xu Turan had her hands folded on the table, her head slightly tilted back. With her clean white shirt, she really looked like a student.

…That is, if you ignored the name tag she was wearing.

The teacher sitting across the table glanced at the name tag, then glanced again. His mouth opened, then closed. Xu Turan tilted her head to observe him, and spoke gently: “Teacher, the registration is complete. What should I do next?”

The registration office teacher: …

Logically, he should confirm the new student’s registered name in person at this point. This was the work procedure—but the point was these two characters, they burned his tongue.

“Confirming registration. Welcome to our school, Da… Daddy classmate.” He closed his eyes repeatedly, finally forcing himself to open his mouth—almost at the same time, Xu Turan heard a prompt in her mind: “Courting Death Value increased by 50”.

She thought for a moment, then sweetly responded with an “Eh.” Successfully earning herself another 10 Courting Death Value points.

Registration office teacher: …

He paused for a moment, quickly flipping through the school rules at hand. After confirming that there were no rules that could support him directly devouring the person in front of him, he reluctantly closed the booklet in his hand.

“Next, please go to the dormitory building to register. The dorm management will arrange the follow-up,” the teacher said stiffly. “Please proceed to the dormitory building as soon as possible. Do not linger in other places. If there are any accidents, you will bear the consequences.”

“Alright. Thank you, teacher.” Xu Turan calmly shouldered her backpack and walked out. The moment she turned around, a hint of contemplation appeared in her eyes.

Obviously, this “teacher” was not human. Given that Big Sophora Secondary School was essentially a domain, he was most likely a monster active in the domain, serving the domain master—just not sure if he was an attendant or an ordinary monster.

After several training sessions and missions, Xu Turan was quite clear about the difference between the two. Compared to ordinary small monsters, attendants were stronger and more independent. Their levels increased with the domain master’s and wouldn’t differ too much from the domain master. Moreover, they couldn’t be eliminated or sealed by outsiders… they could be said to be quite troublesome existences.

The teacher just now had a strong aura, and his speech was clear and logical. There was a high possibility that he was an attendant. The good news was that he seemed to be constrained by certain rules and couldn’t act as he pleased.

Otherwise, he could have forced Xu Turan to change her name, or not approve her school registration. Instead of being visibly angry but still having to force himself to call her Daddy.

Combining with the previously known information, what bound him was likely the rules created by the ability users before… but where were those ability users now? And where could she learn about the specific rules…

Xu Turan followed the corridor back to the first-floor hall, remembering the school rules that Xiao Li had mentioned. Just as she was pondering whether to look for related clues, her gaze suddenly caught two familiar figures.

“Zhu Tang?” She looked in surprise at Zhu Tang and Lin Ge appearing in the hall of the Thinking Study Building, but the two seemed not to see her, walking forward with blank gazes.

Xu Turan was now quite skilled in dealing with this symptom. However, she always wanted to be gentler with girls, so she just quickly walked over and grabbed the two, shaking them hard.

“Hey, hey? Can you hear me? Wake up!” Xu Turan lightly patted their cheeks, and after a few pats, clarity finally returned to their eyes.

“Xu Turan? Why are you here? Are you okay… ugh.” Zhu Tang rubbed her forehead. “My head hurts a bit.”

Lin Ge beside her was fine though. Perhaps because she was originally a Candle level of Order, she regained consciousness earlier than Zhu Tang and quickly recalled the previous situation: “We came to find you. After arriving, we first came to the Thinking Study Building, but as soon as we entered, we got confused. We just thought about going to register something…”

“New student registration?” Xu Turan pointed behind her, “It’s in that direction. I just came out from there.”

“What’s going on here? Where are the ability users stationed here?” Zhu Tang frowned, “Is that new student registration a trap? Do we have to go?”

“It’s hard to say. But I feel it’s not entirely a trap.” Xu Turan pondered for a moment, then quickly said, “Xiao Li once said that one of the key points to survive here is to follow the school rules. And the school rules are for students…”

And Yang Buqi had also said that this school had rules to protect humans. From what we’ve seen so far, the rules she mentioned are likely the school rules.

If you don’t have student status, naturally the school rules can’t provide protection.

More importantly—Xu Turan carefully recalled. During her own registration process, the alarm only went off once, when she almost wrote down her real name. And the increase in Courting Death Value was only because she chose a cringy name that displeased the monster, not related to the act of filling out the document itself.

In other words, the act of registration itself was harmless. It might even be beneficial to them.

Of course, Xu Turan couldn’t tell them this latter half of her reasoning. Fortunately, after hearing her analysis, the two didn’t have much doubt. They exchanged a glance and quickly made up their minds to go register.

“But one thing. It’s best not to write your real name,” Xu Turan reminded. “I heard the teacher inside say that other teachers will do roll calls… It’s just a guess, might not be right. But perhaps, choosing a name that’s not suitable for roll calls might be helpful in the future.”

“Not suitable for roll calls?” Zhu Tang was surprised. “What kind should we choose? I don’t even know many obscure characters myself…”

Her words trailed off as her gaze fell on Xu Turan’s name tag, and her voice suddenly choked.

On the small name tag, the two characters for “Daddy” were so stunning, and so cringy.

“…Anyway, that teacher can’t control the naming,” Xu Turan nonchalantly displayed her new name, continuing to share her successful experience. “Um, but mine is a counterexample, not recommended to follow. The teacher inside was quite angry when reading my name…”

Some things are fine to prank yourself with, and even earn some Courting Death Value. But you can’t drag others into the ditch too.

The other two nodded thoughtfully. They quickly exchanged their respective information, and then tacitly split up—Xu Turan went alone to explore other classrooms in the Thinking Study Building, while Zhu Tang and Lin Ge first went to complete the registration, and then came back here to meet up with her.

Considering Xu Turan’s Snow White’s crowd-pleasing aura, Zhu Tang wasn’t too worried, just instructed once again not to do anything out of line, and then quickly went to the registration office with Lin Ge.
