However, Xu Turan’s curiosity had been piqued, and she proactively moved closer, trying to get her to talk again. But the Little Mermaid didn’t speak anymore, just shaking her head incessantly, and finally said: “You don’t know. Then you shouldn’t know. That’s what we agreed on.”

Agreed with whom?

Xu Turan couldn’t get an answer, and in the end, she could only leave the ward with Zhu Tang.

While Zhu Tang was still marveling at the connection between them, Xu Turan’s thoughts had already drifted far away. As soon as she got home, she immediately went online to search, and also brought out the Planchette Pen—she first looked up the campus of Golden Tree Academy, then the nearby neighborhoods, but apart from “this school looks expensive” and “the houses nearby also look expensive”, she didn’t find out anything.

She didn’t get anything valuable from the Planchette Pen either. This pen insisted that the seal on it was interfering with its performance, and began writing “Unsealing me is profitable” in gibberish again, and was impatiently stuffed into the silver pen case by Xu Turan.

Pu Han was in the middle of a “closed-door” upgrade, in an out-of-contact state. Plus, she had to get up early tomorrow to go on a mission with Zhu Tang and the others, so Xu Turan had no choice but to give up.

And after this mission, she went to find that “Audrey” again. Xu Turan’s mission this time was out of town, taking four days including travel and accommodation. When she came back, Audrey’s mental state had improved a lot, but when faced with her inquiries, it was still the same answer:

“Don’t let those who shouldn’t know, know. That’s what we agreed on.”

Not a single word more could be found out.

Xu Turan: …How to put it, it was very depressing.

It was like reading a novel and encountering a cliffhanger, only for the author to directly give up and leave a plot hole. That feeling of being on tenterhooks yet helpless was truly uncomfortable.

…And what depressed her even more was that the subsequent depressions were far from just this one.

First was the mission.

In the period that followed, Xu Turan went on several missions with Zhu Tang and the others. It must be said that due to being in a team, the difficulty of the missions they could take on had indeed increased quite a bit. The abominations they faced were all at Lamp level, and there was even one at Pyre level—however, even so, Xu Turan only managed to scrape together about 500 Courting Death Points in total.

It was still the same style, she was trying very hard, and her teammates were also very accommodating and cooperative… but the actual points received were far below expectations.

After painful reflection, Xu Turan was finally forced to face an not-so-pleasant reality—this might not be her problem, but that the opponents were too weak.

Before, she was challenging Pyre level as a commoner or Firefly level. Now, she was challenging Pyre level as a Lamp level. The difficulty of these two scenarios was clearly different, and naturally, the actual possibility of death for the same death-defying act was also different.

It’s like the same dungeon, as your level increases, you get less experience… Strictly speaking, it wasn’t anyone’s fault, it was just that she and those abominations met at the wrong time and place.

Following this logic, maintaining a low level would actually help Xu Turan accumulate Courting Death Points—the problem was, she had already been “targeted” by some mysterious and powerful entities.

For self-preservation, Xu Turan definitely still needed to seek upgrades as much as possible.

However, in terms of upgrading, it was another kind of depression—ever since using the substitute steps to upgrade to Candle level on the “Natural Disaster tendency”, Xu Turan’s subsequent upgrades had not been going smoothly.

But strictly speaking, this was her own fault.

Xu Turan was also clear in her heart that upgrading another level on the Natural Disaster tendency would actually be much easier than Chaos. The problem was… the Path of Chaos gave Courting Death Points, while the Cemetery of Disaster didn’t.

And it just so happened that she couldn’t get many Courting Death Points from missions during this period. So Xu Turan was determined to scrape more from the Path of Chaos, taking out that chaos mirror every night before sleep, trying to do daily tasks in the Path of Chaos.

Whether it was controlled by her will or not, whenever she wanted to enter the “Path of Chaos” at night, the “Cemetery of Disaster” would definitely not appear. However, she was no longer able to successfully log into the “Path of Chaos” every time, out of ten attempts, she could only succeed about three or four times.

This made Xu Turan suspect that her previous smooth logins had actually little to do with that chaos mirror, and was mainly thanks to Ghost House No. 71.

And even when logging into the “Path of Chaos”, all she could do was walk—her broken leg had recovered long ago after pushing open the gate between the “Lamp” area and the “Torch” area, so walking wasn’t difficult. But new light clusters were slow to appear before her eyes, while the frequency of monster chases and noisy mumblings clearly increased. This made her somewhat annoyed.

The only thing that made Xu Turan feel gratified was that every time she logged onto the Path of Chaos, she got at least 100 to 200 Courting Death Points. Very conscientious and stable.

During this period, she had accumulated about 1,200, and currently held about 9,800 Courting Death Points. Strangely, no more reward functions had dropped, which was the fourth point that made Xu Turan depressed.

And what depressed her the most was the fifth thing—A University was about to start.

A University started relatively early, with registration on August 20. After registration, there would be military training.

Theoretically, it was possible to arrive 4 or 5 days early for university registration. Xu Turan had originally planned to drag it out and prepare until the last day before going, but Zhu Tang had signed up for a week-long observation mission on the public account, which happened to clash with August 20.

Xu Turan had never participated in such a mission and was extremely curious, not wanting to miss it, so she could only choose to go to school a few days early to register.

“Thank you for sending me here.”

On the day of registration, Xu Turan sat in Yang Buqi’s car, looking at the receding scenery outside the window with a gloomy expression.

Yang Buqi gave her a strange look, clearly not understanding her gloom. If she said going to school was like going to a funeral, he could understand. But this seemed like crying at the funeral too early.

He withdrew his gaze and shook his head: “It’s nothing, I was on my way. I wanted to go there to take a look and take a couple of photos anyway.”

Moreover, Xu Turan wasn’t living on campus, so she actually brought very few things. It wasn’t inconvenient for him at all.

“Take photos?” Xu Turan raised an eyebrow slightly, “You have this hobby?”

“No, it’s for a friend of mine,” Yang Buqi explained, “He’s in his third year of high school this year and wants to apply to A University too. I’m going to take some photos to send to him, as a form of encouragement.”
