On the other side.

The drained pen fell to the ground with a thud, squeezing out a red bubble from its tip, which burst before it could float up; at the same time, Yang Buqi sat down against the wall, holding his forehead, his face frighteningly pale.

Pu Han put away the glowing sealing box and turned to look at him: “Are you alright?”

Yang Buqi couldn’t speak, waved his hand, and after a few seconds said, “Let me catch my breath.”

He closed his eyes briefly, then said, “Not fully charged yet?”

“Still a bit short,” Pu Han said honestly, “The seal on this pen is too overbearing. Our absorption runes can only obtain limited power.”

“…How much more is needed?” Yang Buqi struggled to stand up, “Do we need to deal with that broken fish outside as well?”

Broken fish… isn’t that personal attack?

Pu Han looked at him with some surprise and shook his head.

“No need. Once you recover, come over and provide some assistance, that should be enough.”

As the only Radiance level person on site, he had to be responsible for operating the sealing box, and he had also drawn the attention of Haunted House No. 71. Therefore, this task could only be entrusted to Yang Buqi.

Yang Buqi nodded, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, and glanced at the door beside him, his brows furrowing tightly.

The rules paper was still pasted on the door. Since Xu Turan left until now, the content on it hadn’t changed.

Pu Han wanted to say something comforting, but then thought, given Xu Turan’s personality, if she had reached her bedroom, she wouldn’t have failed to leave a mark to report her safety—even if she didn’t report her safety, it was unlikely she wouldn’t write anything.

This realization made Pu Han feel a bit uneasy as well. He immediately took out the pen he had taken from Xu Turan’s room, emptied his mind, and tried to “read” Xu Turan’s current situation. However, after looking for a while, a hint of confusion appeared on his face.

“…Pu Han?” Noticing his unusual expression, Yang Buqi stood up immediately, “What’s wrong? What did you see?”

“I… didn’t see anything,” Pu Han shook his head, his brows furrowing, “I wanted to see Xu Turan’s situation. But I couldn’t see anything.”

“Is it No. 71?” Yang Buqi’s face became grave.

“No, it’s not… I can ‘see’ No. 71, it’s indeed hunting Xu Turan now…” Pu Han muttered, while Yang Buqi’s face grew increasingly grim.

“But it’s strange. I just can’t see her status. I know she’s there, but she seems to be wrapped up in something… not Haunted House No. 71, but something harder, colder…”

Pu Han’s expression also grew unusually tense, he took a sharp breath and turned to look at Yang Buqi: “Maybe you should go find her after all?”

Yang Buqi: “…”

He subconsciously walked a few steps towards the door, paused, then turned back.

“You mean, Haunted House No. 71 is with Xu Turan now?”

“More or less,” Pu Han nodded, “It’s still in a half-asleep, half-awake state, with its limited attention all on Xu Turan.”

“…” Yang Buqi closed his eyes and took a deep breath, “Then I’ll stay here.”

Pu Han: ?

“I’m not like you guys, once I leave the time-space fragment, I can’t walk back,” Yang Buqi said quickly, “So how should the subsequent plan on your side unfold? Things have already developed to this point, one mistake and all our efforts will be in vain.”

Pu Han: …

Put that way, it was indeed true.

“Moreover, Xu Turan’s current state is most likely related to No. 71, and to help her, the most effective way is to quickly draw No. 71 away,” Yang Buqi looked very anxious, but his tone was strangely calm, “You just said that this sealing box is almost ready to use, right?”

“Yes,” Pu Han nodded, his tone hesitant, “But your current state…”

“I can hold on,” Yang Buqi said, and in front of Pu Han, he took out another bottle of “universal heart-saving pills” from his pocket, opened the lid and directly poured a handful in, chewed a few times, his face wrinkling.

Pu Han: “…”

“Uh, this and the medicine you gave to Xu Turan before…”

“The same,” Yang Buqi closed his eyes and swallowed all those pills, reaching out to touch the top of his head, and clicked his tongue heavily.

It was actually Pu Han’s first time seeing this thing, and he couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Didn’t you say this could only treat physical injuries?”

“If taken in excess, it can also restore energy in a short time, but there will be severe negative effects,” Yang Buqi put away the medicine and touched the top of his head again, “Is there something growing on my head?”

Pu Han watched in shock as a flesh-colored object rapidly grew out from the top of his head, at a speed that seemed like accelerated footage of mushrooms after rain, and he couldn’t help but slightly open his mouth.

“It seems to be… a horn… no, no, uh…”

“Hand. It’s a hand,” Pu Han gave the final answer.

“Is that so? That’s fine then. At least it’s not something weird,” Yang Buqi nodded, “Remember to remind me to cut it off when we’re done.”

…This doesn’t count as weird?

Pu Han fell silent. For the first time, he discovered that Yang Buqi as a person might not be as normal as he seemed.

On the other side, Yang Buqi didn’t pay any more attention to him, walked past him on his own, and went to take the sealing box he had placed on the table—as he moved, his smooth nape was exposed, and Pu Han realized that he actually had more than just an extra hand on his head.

…This medicine is powerful.

Looking at the little finger on Yang Buqi’s nape, he thought silently, when I get the chance, I’ll get some to try too.

At the same time.

On the third floor, in the study.

Shattered thin ice was shaking everywhere with the writhing of the black threads. Xu Turan leaned against the cabinet, casually raising her hand, and another cluster of black threads was encased in a layer of ice.

She had lost count of how many times she had cast “Ice No. 7”. Although not much time had passed, she inexplicably felt it had been a long while.

Large clumps of black thread piles with yellow eyeballs moved around her like pythons, cautiously staying outside the influence range of the runes. Whenever they got close, she would add some ice, and if the distance was right, she’d give them a kick—back and forth, a high-level hunt against low-level prey had turned into a tug of war.

Despite the 10% probability, the legendary “Abnormal Rationality state” seemed to be slow in coming. But from some point on, Xu Turan clearly felt that her surroundings seemed different.

The constantly shifting illusions gradually disappeared, and only reality was presented before her eyes, even the flame illusion cast by the flashlight no longer existed. She could still feel those gazes from the yellow eyeballs, but the emotions they conveyed became increasingly thin…

No, that’s not right.

It wasn’t that the emotions in these eyeballs’ gazes had lessened.

It was that she was gradually losing the ability to perceive them.

Her own emotions, the emotions released by those eyeballs, the pressure from high-level beings, her own desire to survive.

Without realizing it, they all became very, very thin.

But… it wasn’t enough.

Xu Turan vaguely realized. She didn’t know why she had such a thought, but she just knew.

She slightly pursed her lips, her teeth pressing on the wound she had bitten earlier, but she couldn’t even feel the pain.

Just a little more.

A bit more.

If only… it could trigger one more time…

Xu Turan coldly raised her eyes, glancing at the black threads hanging from above. A layer of frost immediately climbed up along the black threads, and in the blink of an eye, even the yellow eyeballs wrapped in the threads were covered with a layer.

Like the thin membrane over a bird’s eye.

Xu Turan tilted her head, curiously observing the strange effect she had unintentionally created, when suddenly everything before her eyes became dim—

It was as if someone had grabbed her by the collar and pulled her down hard.

Her body passed through the floor, pivoting around where her feet were, forcibly making a circle. When her vision recovered, all she saw was a layer of ice.
