Perhaps it was because of those stuttering message prompts tonight, or perhaps it was an instinctive premonition—but she couldn’t quite figure out where that strangeness came from for now. So she didn’t think too much about it, eating and sleeping as usual. Only before going to bed did she take some precautions, making extra arrangements in the room.

Coincidentally, when she was reviewing the newcomer’s rulebook at Ciji Institute during the day, she saw some runes suitable for newcomers—these runes were developed by those high-level ability users, and the runes themselves already contained certain powers, which could have some detection or defense effects.

Things that could be given to newcomers naturally wouldn’t be too profound, but it was better than nothing. Xu Turan learned on the spot and applied it immediately, drawing some in the room before going to bed, which at least counted as an effort.

However, when she woke up the next day, nothing had happened.

A night of good dreams, a night of peace. The runes drawn on the doors and walls hadn’t been triggered at all, and the hairs placed in the door cracks and cabinets showed no signs of movement.

Even the newly purchased supernatural items behaved normally—before going to bed last night, Xu Turan only put away the supernatural instant camera, the chaos mirror, and the Planchette Pen, leaving the rest in the room.

When she looked in the morning, unsurprisingly, the room was a mess. A new knife-wielding teddy bear she bought had its belly torn open, exposing red cotton, looking utterly miserable.

In other words, her passive skill “Confusion” was still functioning healthily. It hadn’t been interfered with.

Moreover, since retrieving the Planchette Pen last night, the Courting Death Value system had been operating normally. She tried it, and the skill point addition function could also be used normally…

Xu Turan pondered briefly and took out the Planchette Pen again.

“I’m asking you.” Her tone was very impolite, “Besides the items I purchased from the Taobao store, are there any other non-human presences in this room?”

The pen replied just as impolitely: 【Huh. If there were, why didn’t they kill you last night?】

Xu Turan: …

Alright, so that means there aren’t any.

Of course, Xu Turan didn’t fully trust it, after all, this pen might not be that capable, and its answers could only serve as a reference at best. She packed up her things and went downstairs, planning to find some ways to check when she went to Ciji Institute for training today.

If she could ask Feifei to take a look for her, that would be even better… but after all, they had just met, and regardless of whether the other party had good intentions towards her or not, Xu Turan wasn’t used to relying too much on others.

Just as she reached the hall, she heard the voice of her convenient tycoon adopted brother coming through, seemingly tinged with anger:

“I emphasized this from the beginning… don’t make excuses to me. I don’t want to hear explanations. Give me the revised plan before this afternoon.”

“?” Xu Turan peeked out to see him taking off his Bluetooth earpiece and throwing it on the table, looking furious. Upon noticing her arrival, he instantly composed his expression.

“You’re up so early.” He greeted her coldly, “Breakfast is in the fridge, help yourself. I’m about to head out.”

As he spoke, he put two sugar cubes into the coffee cup on the table and started stirring. Xu Turan pondered the content she had just heard and tentatively asked, “Is there a problem with the company?”

“It’s a small matter. No need to worry.” The adopted brother said.

“Of course you’re not worried, it’s not your own thing.” Xu Turan snorted coldly, sitting down at the dining table.

The next second, she saw the young man heavily place his coffee cup on the tray.

“Xu Turan, you don’t need to test me with such sarcasm.” The young man glanced at her coldly and said, “I will definitely fulfill what I promised Uncle and Auntie. If you’re really that eager to take over, I don’t mind you skipping grades to graduate from university early.”

“…” Xu Turan had only intended to probe a little, but didn’t expect the boomerang to come back so quickly, leaving her speechless.

If you’re going to speak, just speak. Why bring up university out of nowhere!

Xu Turan instantly deflated, while the person opposite seemed unwilling to say more to her, quickly finishing his coffee before picking up his jacket and leaving.

As the door closed, Xu Turan raised her eyes, thoughtfully looking at the place where her convenient adopted brother had just been sitting.

“Was he really angry just now?” She took out the Planchette Pen.

Planchette Pen: 【Huh. As if you’d run after him and apologize if I said he wasn’t.】

…So he must have been really angry.

Xu Turan lowered her gaze.

She had originally guessed that yesterday’s anomaly might be related to the new people and things she had encountered, which is why she suspected her adopted brother and tried to probe him with her words.

He was angered by her provocation, yet there was no Courting Death Value prompt—moreover, would a non-human be so genuinely irritated by her sarcasm?

Could it be that she was overthinking? That this adopted brother actually had no issues?

Then what was the stuttering last night all about? It couldn’t possibly just be the Courting Death Value system malfunctioning…

Wait.

Remembering her transmigration system that claimed to have gone back for maintenance and never appeared again, Xu Turan suddenly felt a twinge in her heart.

…It seems it’s not impossible?

Regardless, the clues hadn’t been found yet, and verification had to continue. Xu Turan went upstairs to put away the Planchette Pen, quickly got everything in order, and hurried to Ciji Institute.

Today was considered her first day of training, and the course was very simple. It mainly taught them how to adjust their emotions and learn to accept their current selves—Xu Turan had absolutely no problem mastering this.

She had always been very accepting of her true self. As for whether others could accept it, that wasn’t her concern.

Additionally, some basic survival principles for this strange world were re-emphasized, including but not limited to—staying away from places that make you feel uneasy and dangerous in time, not trying to investigate phenomena you can’t understand, not casually pursuing upgrades, and not recklessly buying supernatural items online, even if the shop has a torch symbol.

Xu Turan took notes with great seriousness. When Yang Buqi came to check on her, she even solemnly declared that she had highlighted all the important points.

Then she immediately took a taxi back to Star Park, messaging Pu Han on the way to inquire about how to continue investigating the house issue, and also left a five-star review for the Taobao store. Once home, she pondered over the upgrade matter for the evening.

Regarding Pu Han, Xu Turan couldn’t say she trusted him, nor was she clear on how much he could see about her. But he helped conceal her true qualities and abilities, so in a sense, they were already tied together. Since she had such a resource, it shouldn’t be wasted.

She couldn’t rely on him too much, but she should use him when necessary.

Of course, when she inquired, she only mentioned feeling slightly uneasy after moving in, without revealing the existence of the Courting Death Value system. As a transmigrator, she had done her duty. As for whether he could read about the Courting Death Value system, that was beyond her control.

Pu Han’s reply came quickly: 【Hm? You feel uneasy too?】

【That shouldn’t be the case. Aren’t you stronger than all those new goods you bought? Oh, if you mean a guilty conscience, then forget I said anything.】

Xu Turan: …

Wait, how do all you Omniscience ability users’ mouths grow?

…But this also means that he didn’t see anything wrong with the house either.

Then there are only two possibilities.

First, there’s really nothing wrong around her. Last night’s “Congratulations, congratulations” was purely the system glitching.

Second, the one who triggered the system’s anomaly is so formidable that even the Omniscience Radiance level Pu Han couldn’t detect it.

…Hmm.

Either way, it seems quite pleasing.

Xu Turan pondered for a moment, nodding in self-affirmation, and then received another message from Pu Han:

【Feifei asked me to pass on a message, wishing you good luck tonight.】

Followed by a heart emoticon.

Xu Turan smiled lightly, then turned to look at the mirror placed at her bedside, her expression becoming serious again.

Just as Feifei had predicted—that night, Xu Turan indeed came to that space again.
