Her Talent for Courting Death Has Always Been Impressive - Chapter 28 Part 3
It cried out again and again, its voice hoarse and broken, the short screams extremely shrill, like a dying crow shrinking in Yang Buqi’s arms, constantly emitting death cries.
The slightly cheerful atmosphere was instantly swept away by this eerie cry. Xu Turan’s gaze slowly shifted from the cloth doll to the tightly closed door nearby, and the sense of crisis in her mind suddenly began to beep—
“Go!” She suddenly spoke up, taking the lead in moving, but the first thing she did wasn’t to rush towards the door, but to pick up a fruit knife from the table nearby and slash at the taut hair of the cloth doll!
The blade hit the black hair as if hitting an iron wire, leaving the hair intact while the knife’s edge curled. Xu Turan gritted her teeth silently, and with no other choice, decided to throw it away. Yang Buqi was about to speak when the middle-aged man called “Boss” suddenly rushed over, his fingers like a knife, quickly cutting through the doll’s black hair, causing large patches of black hair to fall.
Xu Turan finally let out a sigh of relief and hurriedly thanked him. The boss shook his head and turned to support the injured member of his team.
“It’s nothing!” He spoke in a deep voice that resonated like a bell, “But my ability is ‘Withering’, your doll will probably go bald in the future…”
Cloth doll: …?
“It’s fine, it’s fine, not a big deal,” Xu Turan said matter-of-factly, zipping up the backpack in a flash and rushing towards the door with Yang Buqi.
The cloth doll sealed in the backpack: …???
Who the hell said it’s not a big deal?!
As they spoke, several people had already rushed out of the door. Xu Turan was running while constantly pressing the instant camera in her hand, throwing a photo on the ground each time one came out, letting hundreds of ghosts crawl behind without looking back at the explosion—even so, she could clearly feel that something behind them was gradually approaching.
…It was a real big one.
An absolute big one, compared to which both Cha Ruoyu and his daughter would be as small as toys. Even though it was still so far away, the mountain-like pressure was already overwhelming, and the sense of crisis was beeping so hard it gave her a headache, like a hundred chickens screaming in frenzy.
Xu Turan even felt her footsteps becoming heavy—Yang Buqi beside her had been pulling her to run, and she noticed that those from Renxin Institute were doing the same, pulling each other. She didn’t understand the significance of this action at first, until she found herself suddenly having the urge to run back, and almost closed the door behind her twice—once that door was closed, she and the others would be separated again.
It was strange. They remembered to close the door every time they passed through a room. Every time they closed a door, it should have refreshed the path behind them. But that extremely oppressive feeling still followed closely behind them, impossible to shake off, and even seemed to be getting closer—Xu Turan swore she heard some piercing sounds, like claws scraping against the wall. From time to time, there was also the sound of bestial breathing at the back of her head, so close that it seemed like it could bite her neck in one go.
She didn’t know what was chasing behind. She had no time to look back, only able to see a huge shadow cast on the wall from the corner of her eye. The sounds in her ears were getting more and more numerous, buzzing, as if countless people were talking. The surrounding walls seemed to be bending, the world was shaking.
“Did you say something?” She ran forward by instinct, turning to look at Yang Buqi, her expression showing unprecedented confusion. Yang Buqi looked at her in surprise, supporting her shoulder with one hand, his fingertips emitting a faint green light—different from what he had applied to the doorknob earlier.
A slight pain transmitted through her skin. Xu Turan startled awake suddenly. The shaking world returned to normal, and all the sounds in her ears receded. That long and distorted feeling ebbed away like a tide, and she realized that not much time seemed to have passed.
Seeing this, Yang Buqi visibly let out a sigh of relief. He covered the spot where Xu Turan had just been injured with white light, then turned and did the same to his own arm—it seemed his condition wasn’t much better than Xu Turan’s.
The others from Renxin Institute were the same. Xiao Gao and An Nai’s eyes already showed obvious confusion, making Su Sui’er so anxious that she gave each of them a slap on the ear, and after running a few steps, gave herself one too. In the blink of an eye, they rushed into a new room, and Xu Turan’s heart suddenly trembled. She casually scattered all the photos in her hand.
“There’s something behind that door!” She spoke without thinking, her gaze turning to the tightly closed door opposite.
But it was too late—Su Sui’er had already rushed over to turn the doorknob.
Then, she was dumbfounded.
“What’s going on? This door won’t open!” She turned the handle several times forcefully, and the doorknob made clicking sounds.
Xu Turan’s mind stirred, and she instantly associated it with that key word—
“Mom”.
The mom who was an attendant was disobedient, so she was locked in a certain room by “it”…
“Can we blow the door open?” Xu Turan immediately said, “The attendant is most likely inside! Let it out for a dog-eat-dog situation!”
Several surprised gazes fell on her, though it wasn’t clear if it was because of her bold idea or her bold wording.
“No, it’s sealed, can’t be opened,” the boss walked to the door, quickly scanned it and said. As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of a lock turning came from the door behind them.
—The thing outside was opening the door.
That door was locked from the inside, and it would take some time to open. Even so, the thing outside showed no intention of giving up.
Click, click, click.
The air in the room instantly froze, and everyone’s gaze fell on the slowly turning doorknob.
“Come here,” Weiwei, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up, her arms spread out, as if a huge semi-transparent membrane had opened behind her.
“All of you, come here,” she repeated, her voice very small and speaking rapidly, “I don’t know how long I can hide you… Don’t make a sound, don’t look at it. Don’t attract its attention.”
Her attribute was “Dead Leaf Butterfly”, and “Mimicry” was one of her abilities.
At this point, there seemed to be no other option. Everyone rushed towards her, and as Xu Turan was about to approach, her mind suddenly stirred, and her gaze suddenly swept the ground.
“Xu Turan?” Noticing her gaze, Yang Buqi’s brow instantly furrowed.
“It’s nothing,” Xu Turan said, but suddenly crouched down, swept the ground twice with her hands, then kicked a few times, sweeping all the supernatural photos originally thrown on the ground under the door gap of the locked room, before hurriedly standing up and rushing to Yang Buqi’s side.
Due to the angle, Yang Buqi didn’t see clearly what she had just done, and could only give her a questioning look.
Xu Turan gave a dry laugh, and due to the limited space, had to move closer to him, whispering, “It’s nothing. Just adding some extra food for mom.”
Yang Buqi: …?
Weiwei gave them a warning look, and Xu Turan didn’t speak anymore. As her skin, which had heated up from running, gradually cooled down, she suddenly realized another thing.
This room seemed a bit cold.
