Chapter 28: I’ll Add Some Extra Food for Mom~

…Damn, that’s weird.

This was An Nai’s first reaction.

—His second reaction was, let me take another look.

After looking several times, An Nai finally made up his mind, chopped the female ghost lunging at him with a hand strike, and carefully walked out following that black thread.

The rooms outside had all changed, looking completely unfamiliar at a glance. He walked through two rooms following it, and when he reached the third, his eyes suddenly widened.

“Weiwei?” he exclaimed happily, “You’re okay?”

In the room, a girl with a long ponytail was crouching in front of that thread, observing it thoughtfully. Hearing him, she glanced at him indifferently and nodded, “Mm.”

An Nai quickly scanned the surroundings and walked in: “Are you also investigating this thing?”

“Mm.” Weiwei nodded, “It’s strange.”

It was really too strange. The guide was a female ghost, but the black thread tied to it clearly came from a higher-level abomination. The name card strung on the black thread had a torch pattern, and the name was also someone she knew, but the material used to write it seemed a bit unfamiliar to her…

But it wasn’t completely unfamiliar. She felt like she had seen it somewhere before, but just couldn’t remember at the moment.

In any case, to sum it up, it was just strange.

So even though she saw the female ghost at the time, she didn’t rashly take action. Instead, she hid nearby, waiting for the female ghost to crawl away on its own—she figured, if this method really worked, there might be others following the black thread to her side later. She could make a decision then.

Having worked together as partners for a long time, An Nai immediately understood her thinking and pointed to the half-open door behind her: “Shall we go through together?”

Weiwei thought for a moment, not expressing an opinion, but asked in return: “Are there any more people behind?”

“…” An Nai was dumbfounded, and after a while said, “There probably won’t be. I killed that female ghost pulling the thread…”

Weiwei gave him a reproachful look, sighed helplessly, and walked to the door he came from. The two closed doors for each other to verify their identities, then continued to walk back along the black thread together.

After passing through one room, they saw another female ghost, dragging a black thread, slowly crawling out of the room. This time An Nai didn’t take action, using Weiwei’s skill to hide on the side until they saw with their own eyes the female ghost leave the room. Then he said in disbelief: “What’s going on? Are these things wholesale? How are there still more?”

Weiwei shook her head in confusion, also showing some surprise on her face.

An Nai looked at her deeply, and finally voiced a suspicion that had been lingering in his mind: “Do you think this might be a trap set by the abomination?”

“…It’s not.” This time, Weiwei responded very decisively, with a simple reason.

“It’s not that creative.”

An Nai: …

Alright, that’s reasonable and convincing, you’ve persuaded me.

“Besides, the name card has Yang Buqi’s name,” Weiwei continued, “And it’s his handwriting.”

She finally remembered where she had seen that strange green color before. It was Yang Buqi’s “poison”—though she didn’t know why he would use this kind of thing to write.

“Yang Buqi, huh.” An Nai pondered, “I’ve dealt with him before. Although he’s a bit aloof, his abilities are quite reliable, a dependable person.”

He probably wouldn’t collude with abominations and do something weird… right?

The two looked at each other, both remembering another label attached to Yang Buqi—Ciji Institute.

“…Well, we don’t have any other options now.” An Nai hesitated for a moment, but still made up his mind, “At this point, we need to find a way to regroup first…”

Having reached a consensus, the two continued moving forward along the black thread. After passing through another room, they finally found the source of the black thread—

It was a half-open door. The doorknob was coated with a layer of glowing green light.

Strange auras seeped out from inside the door. Roughly estimated, there was at least one Lamp-level abomination.

An Nai frowned, stopping alertly and holding back Weiwei beside him.

It’s dangerous. He tried to signal to her with his eyes, wait for me to go check it out first…

Before he could finish signaling, they suddenly heard muffled conversations coming from inside, and the next second, a familiar voice exploded—

“Xu Turan! Come quick! These two are biting each other again, damn it—I can’t pull them apart!”

“Yang Buqi, can you hold that doll steady or not?! It’s about to get dragged away—”

An Nai: …?

The next instant, the half-open door suddenly burst open, two black shadows crashed out chaotically, followed closely by a human figure, like Santa Claus driving a frenzied reindeer sleigh, frantically pulling back on something while making “Yu, yu” sounds—

Perhaps due to pain, the two black shadows finally calmed down. The person pulling the rope looked up and met An Nai’s shocked gaze.

“An Nai? Weiwei?” The latter recognized him at a glance and hurriedly waved them in while controlling the two female ghosts, “You’ve finally come? Quick, come in first. Oh right, remember to touch the doorknob for testing… Yu! Yu!”

Su Sui’er struggled to tighten the black thread in her hand, gesturing for the two to hurry inside. An Nai blinked in disbelief, paused for a moment before coming to his senses, and peeked inside with Weiwei after they each touched the doorknob.

They saw Yang Buqi crouching on the ground, tying a female ghost’s hair.

Yes, that Yang Buqi. Although he seemed aloof, he at least looked quite reliable—

He was tying a female ghost’s hair.

On his chest hung a pink backpack. The backpack’s zipper was slightly open, revealing most of a doll’s face. Even from across the room, An Nai could see the eerie smile on that doll’s face.

Not to mention the female ghosts crawling all over the room, the flickering green lights everywhere, the black hair spread all over the floor, the murky aura that seemed to hit you in the face…

It’s over, we’ve fallen into a trap.

This was An Nai’s first reaction.

Contamination, this room must have been contaminated! The people inside have all lost their minds! This place must be toxic—

What finally stopped An Nai from retreating was the timely opening of the door on the other side of the room.

Two people walked out of that door. One was a girl he hadn’t seen before, looking very young; the other was a bespectacled young man, who was the deputy leader of their batch.

“Teacher Yu?” He called out softly, instantly feeling much more at ease. Just then, Su Sui’er finally managed to control the two biting female ghosts in her hands, and could spare some energy to properly explain to them.

Only then did An Nai and Weiwei have a chance to understand the current situation… although they didn’t really understand much.

But at least one thing was clear. Everyone was fine, no one had been affected. Everyone was just trying to regroup.

“Then these female ghosts…” An Nai looked at the ghost shadows crawling all over the floor, at a loss for words. In the corner, two more female ghosts were pulling each other’s hair. Su Sui’er cursed, angrily rushed over, and started to break up the fight.
