Her Talent for Courting Death Has Always Been Impressive - Chapter 24 Part 4
Girl: …I don’t understand. I’m not that shocked either. But anyway, I must have this meal today!
She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, finally recovering. She stood up with Xu Turan’s help, just about to say something when she saw Xu Turan’s pitifully furrowed brows, and choked back her words.
“Can you… help me check that cabinet over there?” She pointed to a spot directly in front, resolutely refusing to let Xu Turan stand beside her again.
Xu Turan obediently said “Oh” and walked over. The girl watched Xu Turan’s back and finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Alright—she surely can’t kick me now, right?
She thought silently, her originally gentle expression suddenly sinking, her collar being pushed open, that wrist-thick tube-like thing exploring out again.
…Then, she suddenly felt a pain on the back of her neck.
The fierce expression froze on her face, her head drooped down, and she didn’t move again.
At the same time, on the other side.
Xu Turan was pretending to rummage through the cabinet, still puzzled in her heart.
Kicking from behind doesn’t work, kicking from the side doesn’t work either—what exactly counts as a so-called “Front Kick”?
Does it have to be right in the face?
She finally encountered a monster that wasn’t too bright, and she felt she should make good use of this opportunity, at least to eliminate a few more incorrect options, but she didn’t know how many times the other could endure…
As she was thinking, she lowered her head to look at her shoulder bag.
The bag was half open, revealing a bit of silver-colored paper inside. This was the supernatural item she had been carrying with her.
As long as she tore open these colored papers, the supernatural item would be freed, and her Confusion would be triggered—this was her backup plan, at least from her current feeling, the monster behind her should be within the range of influence of “Confusion”.
It’s fine, it’s okay, I’ve got this under control. Xu Turan thought confidently.
The next second, she heard an unfamiliar voice behind her.
“Raise your hands and turn around. Slowly.”
It was a woman’s voice, somewhat deep.
Xu Turan paused, then pursed her lips and turned around as told.
She saw that the monster who had been eyeing her covetously earlier was now motionless, and another girl had walked through the door and entered.
It was a short-haired girl, tall and slender, wearing a sports tank top that revealed the smooth lines of her shoulders. She had a large bag slung over her shoulder, wasn’t holding anything in her hands, but had one hand extended forward, with a small red dot between her fingers.
Xu Turan curiously looked her over and spoke first, her tone calm, starting with a direct question: “Are you also an ability user?”
“…” The latter was clearly shaken by her words, “Also?”
“I barely qualify as one. Just started, Firefly level,” Xu Turan said, “Do you know Yang Buqi? I know him.”
The other’s eyes shifted slightly, her finger still steadily pointing forward: “Yang Buqi? From Renxin Institute?”
“From Ciji Institute,” Xu Turan heard that she was testing her and corrected without minding, “I have his business card, do you want to see it?”
She didn’t doubt the other’s identity at all, nor was there any need to—if it was a monster coming, she would be able to feel it, and Danger Prediction would also work.
Hearing her say this, the other’s expression became slightly more relaxed. She thought for a moment, walked a few steps to the side, and gestured to Xu Turan:
“Go over there and close that door.”
Xu Turan: “?”
Although confused, she still did as told. The door was shut with a bang.
Seeing this, the person finally relaxed completely. She lowered the hand she had been holding up, also walked to the door, and in front of Xu Turan, opened the door and closed it again.
“My self-verification.”
Xu Turan: “…?”
“Monsters can’t close doors,” she smirked, “Didn’t you notice that one of the doors in this living room was just ajar?”
…She really hadn’t noticed this. After all, as soon as she came in, she was approached by that monster who hadn’t closed the door.
But this also explained why she didn’t hear the sound of a door opening when this girl came in.
The short-haired girl let out a heavy sigh, kicked the monster sitting in the chair to the ground, and sat down herself.
“Let me introduce myself, Su Sui’er, from Renxin Institute, Candle level,” she looked at Xu Turan, “Did you come in alone? No other companions?”
Xu Turan nodded.
“Then follow me,” Su Sui’er said, “Don’t run around, I’ll protect you.”
Xu Turan, who had deliberately come in to court death: “…”
Well, I’ll just act according to the situation later—by the way, Su Sui’er, this name seems somewhat familiar?
She remembered the crystal trophy in her bag and suddenly realized.
“Are you also from Ciji Institute?” Su Sui’er asked again, “Are you a newcomer brought in by Yang Buqi?”
Whether it was Xu Turan’s imagination or not, when mentioning “Yang Buqi” and “Ciji Institute”, there seemed to be a subtle hint of rejection in her tone. It wasn’t clear whether this rejection was directed at the former or the latter.
Xu Turan shook her head, and the other’s expression became even more relaxed. She stood up and started rummaging around the room: “Quickly find supplies, let’s get out of here as soon as we’re done, this isn’t a place we can stay for long.”
She pulled out several vacuum-sealed bags containing heavy winter clothes and placed them on the floor beside her with a thud, raising her head to toss the bangs from her forehead to the back of her head.
“By the way, what are you wearing that for?”
Her gaze fell on Xu Turan’s mask, and Xu Turan’s eyes wandered for a moment before she casually replied, “Dust protection.”
Joking aside, she couldn’t just say that her acting was exaggerated and she needed something to cover her wildly expressive features while acting, could she?
The girl nodded, though it wasn’t clear if she believed it or not: “Do you have any extras? Give me one, I’ll trade you something else for it.”
Xu Turan took out an unopened one for her but didn’t ask for anything in return. Seeing her thank her and put it on, she then smiled: “Don’t thank me, I took it from your room.”
She described to the other the second room she had been to, and showed her the crystal trophy she had brought out. Su Sui’er looked at the object, and finally a smile appeared on her cold face.
“Silly child, you missed out—there’s a bunch of good stuff in my living room. All hidden behind the sofa and wine cabinet,” she shook her head, “I didn’t know to stockpile supplies when I left, and later when I wanted to go back, I couldn’t find the way… Don’t give me this trophy, keep it yourself. It’s handy for hitting people.”
“What about the crumpled paper in that room?” Xu Turan said, “Wasn’t it left by you?”
Su Sui’er shook her head again: “Someone must have run into my room and left it there—or it might be misleading information left by ‘it’.”
“?” Xu Turan’s heart stirred, and she asked instinctively, “It? Why would it do that?”
“For fun, of course.” Su Sui’er shrugged, her expression becoming serious again, “Or, you could understand it as revenge against ability users.”
“Revenge against humans, who have always used rules and experience to restrain and deal with them.”
