As the last trigger of the mark, Yang Buqi naturally stayed inside the stairwell, taking on the task of patrolling and maintaining the operation of the marks. He didn’t expect to suddenly notice a figure during his patrol—that figure ran extremely fast, disappearing around the corner of the stairs in the blink of an eye. To be precise, he only saw a piece of clothing.

Even so, driven by an inexplicable premonition, he immediately associated that figure with Xu Turan.

Then he quickly associated Xu Turan with “fearless of death.”

Finally, he completed the keyword matching—”Xu Turan,” “15th floor.”

Logically speaking, this matching actually made no sense. After all, there was no evidence to prove that Xu Turan had any motive to go to the 15th floor; and from a normal person’s perspective…

No, this wasn’t something to be understood from a normal person’s perspective!

Anyway, the little alarm in Yang Buqi’s mind still went off at that moment, urging him to quickly head to the 15th floor—in this regard, he was even more miserable than Xu Turan, after all, he didn’t have the Courting Death Value prompt method. He took who knows how many detours before finally making it up here just before Xu Turan could court death further.

Hearing that he had specifically come up to find her, Xu Turan felt even more embarrassed. Just as she was about to find an excuse to brush him off, she heard Yang Buqi ask curiously: “What’s in your bag?”

“?” Xu Turan looked down at the shoulder bag she had grabbed when leaving, opened it for Yang Buqi to see, “Nothing much, just stuffed in a couple of weird things.”

Inside the bag were the silver paper-wrapped Ghostly Polaroid, Long-haired Doll, and Snow Ghost Hand Mirror. Noticing Yang Buqi’s increasingly confused gaze, she explained further: “Prepared to use as a shield if needed.”

In fact, using them as a shield was secondary; they were mainly for triggering “Mad Rabbit – Confusion”… But it wasn’t exactly a lie either.

Hearing this, Yang Buqi’s expression became very strange—he really didn’t know how to evaluate this fellow in front of him. If you say she doesn’t care about her life, well, she knows to bring some things for self-protection. If you say she does care about her life, she can still ignore the things that the rules paper warned about repeatedly.

“…Can you tell me why you came up here?” After a pause of two seconds, he finally found his voice again, “Why don’t you go back down first? If there’s anything you need to do, I can help you do it.”

Well, that won’t do. Courting death isn’t something that can be done by proxy…

Xu Turan was weighing her words, about to speak, when suddenly there was a “click” sound from the door behind them—

Following that, under the watchful gaze of the two, a familiar figure opened the door and walked out.

“Huh?” Xiao Zhang, hugging that suit doll, looked at them with a confused expression, “What are you guys doing here?”

…Shouldn’t the key point be how you ended up here?!

Xu Turan paused for a moment, pointing at Xiao Zhang, and tentatively looked at Yang Buqi: “If I say I came here to find him, would you believe me?”

Yang Buqi: …Stop your nonsense!

As for why Xiao Zhang appeared on the 15th floor, that’s another story.

This story goes back to when Xu Turan first snuck into the stairwell—not long after she slipped in, Xiao Zhang followed.

Of course, he wasn’t aiming for the 15th floor. At that time, the 14th floor was in complete chaos, with female ghosts occasionally crawling in. Xiao Zhang was nearly numb from staying there, and considering Xu Turan’s hidden boss status, he didn’t dare hide in the inner rooms—he clearly remembered that Xu Turan had brought out a bunch of abominations from the bedroom earlier. Who knows if there were more in there?

After much deliberation, he finally decided to take the risk and rush out.

He carried Luo Yu’s suit doll, covering his head as he rushed into the stairwell. He originally planned to go down just one floor and then take the elevator, but he never expected that after just a few steps, his doll would fall.

Strictly speaking, it ran away.

— The suit doll was originally an abomination forcibly tamed by an ability user. It was compelled to obey and act according to commands due to the restraints on it. However, when Xu Turan handed the suit doll to Xiao Zhang earlier, he didn’t catch it properly, causing it to fall. By coincidence, the fall cracked its “restraints”.

The suit doll thus gained partial freedom—coupled with its gradually returning intelligence as it moved away from Xu Turan, it immediately made a decision that could potentially change its life: it would escape.

So it took advantage of Xiao Zhang’s inattention, bit his arm, struggled free, and ran away on its tiny feet.

In his panic to chase it, Xiao Zhang also ran up the stairs. Little did he know that the enclosed space of the stairwell had already formed, and there happened to be no one guarding the stairwell he was in. Afraid of being blamed if others found out, Xiao Zhang didn’t dare ask for help and just kept chasing the suit doll, running and running…

Before he knew it, he had run to the 15th floor.

“Wait, is this the 15th floor?” Xiao Zhang said, turning to look at the door number, only then realizing he had stumbled into such a forbidden place, “Holy crap! Crap crap! What should I do now? I didn’t mean to come up here!”

The other two: …

For the first time in her life, Xu Turan experienced the feeling of being “flexed on” by someone else right in front of her, leaving her with very mixed emotions. Yang Buqi put his hand on his forehead, trying his best to keep his tone calm: “If I remember correctly, there are rules posted at the entrance of each floor’s stairwell… Didn’t it say that if you don’t see any staff on duty, please stand by the mark and wait?”

Xiao Zhang: “…”

He was really panicked at the time.

“Alright, alright, what’s done is done.” Xu Turan patted his shoulder reassuringly, then turned to look at Xiao Zhang, “I have to say, from a certain perspective, you’re quite talented.”

Yang Buqi: …Talented in what way? Talented at courting death?

He found that he didn’t want to know the answer at all.

“Enough, let’s stop this nonsense.” He stared at the two sternly, “Now, before Cha Ruoyu comes, quickly go back down—I’ll watch you go down…”

Before he could finish, Xu Turan’s expression suddenly changed: “No, he’s here.”

Yang Buqi: “What?”

“Cha Ruoyu, he’s coming up!” As Xu Turan spoke, she instinctively looked into the stairwell and indeed saw a figure slowly approaching, carrying an axe upside down—

No wonder her danger prediction was going off so strongly.

Xiao Zhang’s face changed immediately: “Then let’s go, why are we still standing here?”

“It’s too late—he’s already in the hallway!” Xu Turan said, simply opening the door to room 1501, “Either hide in here—why are you looking at me like that? Having somewhere to hide is better than having nowhere to hide, right?”

Xiao Zhang: “But, but this is 1501!”

Xu Turan: “You’ve been inside for half a day already, why are you being picky now?”

Xiao Zhang: “…” How can that be the same?

“Do as she says, go in!” Yang Buqi thought for a moment and still agreed with Xu Turan’s approach, “We can’t let him see anyone!”

With that, he opened the door wider. Without waiting for his urging, Xu Turan slipped in like an eel. Before she could observe the interior, Yang Buqi dragged her into the bathroom.
