Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Among the currencies circulating in this city, commoners typically encounter only small copper coins, and at most, large copper coins. Silver coins are rare for commoners, and many live their entire lives without ever seeing them.

However, for citizens living in the Second District, using large copper coins for everyday transactions is common, and they often have opportunities to use silver coins. Gold coins are generally reserved for major purchases, such as buying estates or commercial properties.

Even among top-tier clans like the Sword Fangs Legion, members are usually paid in silver coins, while gold coins are reserved for acquiring powerful magical tools or swords.

Now, several dozen gold coins are stacked on the desk in the commander’s room, gleaming with a golden glow.

“So, this is the payment for the shoes?” Jilboa asks in amazement.

“That’s right. Of course, I plan to record and distribute it fairly among shareholders like you, Gooljin, and Gorgogo. After all, it’s legitimate profit from the shoe business.”

“Legitimate, huh…” I think I hear Sara behind me expressing her astonishment, but I don’t catch her words clearly.

The shine of gold coins seems to justify everything.

“Let me hear again what Roro’s plan is. Surely there was another reason for going this far besides just a lack of money?” Jilboa asks. I have already explained this in advance, but he prompts me to explain to everyone gathered here except Jilboa.

I raise my voice and begin to explain so that everyone in the room can hear. “First of all, the reason for my visit this time was to settle things with that shady bureaucrat Roro and establish clear hierarchies! The Sword Fangs Legion doesn’t tolerate disrespect! It was necessary to show the nobility that we won’t stand for being looked down upon!”

When I say that, the other members shout, “That’s right!” and “Good job, Sub-Captain!”

Everyone seems to be quite relieved and pleased by this outcome.

I continue speaking loudly to be heard over the noise.

“However! The opponent must be someone who is already disliked! We can’t afford to turn the entire noble society against us! In that sense, Roro was the perfect antagonist! He was an unpleasant person, after all! On top of that, he’s a schemer who tried to meddle with the Sword Fangs Legion! Roro wanted to make the Sword Fangs Legion his own lapdogs because he has no allies. That’s why he tried to threaten me and the Captain! The Sword Fangs Legion does not tolerate anyone who dares to lay a hand on its members!”

Swiberry adds, “Exactly! Anyone who lays a hand on a comrade won’t be spared! Especially someone like that cowardly scoundrel who dared to target the Sub-Commander!”

The members burst into laughter. I smile wryly and continue.

“But he made a mistake! We had already settled things with the Count, so Roro, in his panic, showed up in front of us! On top of that, he was intimidated by the Captain’s gaze! That guy is a second-rate schemer and a coward! He never imagined that commoners like us would threaten him!”

The members who accompanied me to Roro’s mansion raise their voices in agreement. “The Sub-Captain is right! I wish you could have seen how he looked when we entered his room! He was completely frightened, turning pale and trembling! His hand was shaking so much while signing the contract that I had to tread lightly to avoid making him more nervous. That’s when he opened the safe and took out the gold coins!”

Laughter erupts among the members.

Indeed, Roro failed. He probably never thought we would directly negotiate with the Count. In his desperation, he appeared before us and even attempted negotiations. He likely never imagined being refused. To the nobility, commoners are nothing more than livestock to squeeze out taxes.

Moreover, it was beyond imagination that this “livestock” would actually be a fierce beast that bares its fangs.

As a second-rate schemer, Roro had intended for himself to be the only one in the audience. The pawns in his elaborate plans were supposed to be mere pieces, but those pieces stormed his estate and exposed him to direct violence.

The shock must have been like the sun rising in the west—an utterly inconceivable and unbelievable event. Even while writing the contract and taking gold coins from the safe, Roro remained frozen in fear, pale as a ghost.

As a precaution, I also took any documents Roro had likely kept for blackmail purposes from his safe. As long as I have these, Roro won’t be able to take rash actions.

With that, the matter is settled.

I exhale while watching the still-excited members causing a commotion in the office.

Oh, right. I still need to make sure to deliver the shoes to Roro properly.
