Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 83
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
I head to the Sword Fangs Legion with Sara. I find myself becoming quite busy.
It’s about time the Sword Fangs Legion starts assigning someone to practical tasks. Although it might be that only the leader, Jilboa, has brains and not just muscle, if they want to expand, they’ll need someone smart. I can work with them and help in training personnel.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
“So, is there anyone available?”
“It’s difficult. Swiberry also serves as my bodyguard, so he can’t be lent out for long periods. I’m basically handling the Legion’s accounts myself.”
Jilboa and I are having a meeting in the Sword Fangs Legion’s leader’s office, but selecting someone proves challenging. Most of the paperwork and financial tasks are directly overseen by Jilboa.
As expected, Jilboa is too capable to be stuck in such a small place. He excels in combat skills more than anyone else, has high command capabilities, can devise combat doctrines, and is also knowledgeable about numbers. That’s why people gather around him, but there’s no one to support Jilboa intellectually.
“As long as they don’t have an aversion to numbers, or if they’re quick on their feet and have the intelligence to act as a liaison, that would be good. Is there anyone like that?”
Jilboa judges people by his own standards. While it’s acceptable to assess subordinates’ skills by this criteria, evaluating their potential with Jilboa’s standards will not help them grow. No subordinate can do everything. It’s enough if they have one strong point and can fulfill the role expected of them.
“If you want someone who isn’t averse to numbers, there’s someone from a merchant family. The role of a liaison should be filled by the best person. That’s someone we can’t afford to lose.”
Even in the military, reconnaissance and communication are tasks for excellent officers. They’d want to allocate such talent to their main duties.
When Jilboa gives the signal, a Legion member from a merchant family arrives. He is tall, broad-chested, with short black hair and sharp eyes. He looks like a seasoned mercenary or a top adventurer from any angle.
“This is Kiriku. He originally came from a family that dealt with wheat. As the third son with no prospects of continuing the business and being a bit of a troublemaker, he ended up with us.”
“Leader, I wasn’t causing trouble. There was someone stealing goods, so I just gave him a little correction.”
Ah, he’s definitely a muscle-head. That’s to be expected, but it’s not good if he can’t understand numbers.
“I’m Kenji. I’m developing shoes for the Legion members. I’ve heard you’re good with numbers. Do you have any experience?”
Kiriku, the man from the merchant family, stands straight with his arms behind his back and answers after looking at the leader. “I received education on bookkeeping from the age of five in my family!”
I wonder if he’s from some marine unit, but perhaps this is how disciplined top-tier clans are. Well, it’s fine. If he turns out to be unusable, we can always replace him.
“I’d also like you to introduce me to someone from the theater troupe that staged the Sword Fangs Legion’s triumphal ceremony,” I asked from Jilboa.
When asked why, I explain that it’s for advertising and promotional activities for selling the shoes. When asked what advertising activities involve, I clarify that it’s a comprehensive effort to make the product well-regarded among citizens and customers, much like how the triumphal ceremony improved the environment and public reaction for the Sword Fangs Legion. Jilboa, having experienced firsthand how the triumphal ceremony positively impacted the Legion and the subsequent public response, understands the concept easily.
“Still… for just selling shoes, you’re planning quite a few strategies. With your skills, you could definitely serve as a deputy in our Legion.”
This time, Jilboa is recruiting me. Indeed, considering the current state of the Sword Fangs Legion, it seems they lack a capable second-in-command. Since it’s a good opportunity, I suggest an idea I’ve been mulling over to Jilboa.
“If you’d like, I can recommend someone from the novice adventurers who seems smart.”
Meeting new novice adventurers for a tour is like doing a group interview where one can gauge their potential through their actions. While we can’t assess their skill with a sword, both Sara and I have seen many novice adventurers and have data on whether they can properly listen to and understand instructions and if they can implement them effectively.
Jilboa seems interested. We would send over those who are good with their heads, and then the Sword Fangs Legion can assess their physical requirements, such as fitness, swordsmanship, suitability for group activities, and courage.
Novice adventurers would then have more opportunities for advancement, the Sword Fangs Legion would acquire good personnel, and I would profit.
No one loses out.
“I’m not doubting you, but recommend about three people. We’ll decide on the official course of action after seeing the result.”
It’s a trial, which makes sense. I agree with Jilboa’s proposal.
If this goes well, it would lead to a new support business for recruitment separate from the shoe manufacturing business. The Sword Fangs Legion isn’t the only one struggling with similar issues.
Next, I receive an introduction to where the theater troupe members are located and decide to head there with Sara and Kiriku.
It’s a truly busy day.
