Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

The next morning, I woke up in bed to find Sara sleeping beside me. Of course, we are both fully clothed. Since she is drooling and sleeping with her belly exposed, I cover her with a blanket and go downstairs to get some tea.

As I hold the tea’s aroma to my swollen, alcohol-stung eyelids, I think about things. Well, I’m not some oblivious protagonist from an erotic game. There’s no way I don’t notice Sara’s feelings.

However, considering my current situation, I don’t think I can respond to them. Even though I’m doing somewhat better financially, I’m still a former adventurer living in an inn. Moreover, until this business gets on track, there’s a real risk to my life. The possibility of dying from assassination or poisoning can’t be ruled out.

So, for now, what I can do is ensure that after I’m gone, this energetic girl won’t fall into the dangerous life of an adventurer or end up on the streets as a prostitute. I want to leave behind skills and connections for her to manage the business successfully. I think that’s the best I can do.

Well, if the business is stable and I’m still alive after a year, I’ll think about what comes next.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

There are many things to think about, but for now, I can’t stop the adventurer tours for beginners. While taking novice adventurers and Sara around the city’s shops, I can’t stop thinking about how to manage the deterrence governance for the adventurer shoe business.

After a night of reflection, I’m starting to think that using the shoe sales priority rights to create a pseudo-corporation is a good idea in theory but might be too difficult to implement. It seems like a classic case of a theoretically sound idea that’s impractical in reality. Trying to replicate something akin to modern corporate regulations in this world might not work.

What’s needed is a simpler, more feasible alternative. Imagining rights to things that don’t physically exist before us is an abstract thought that is a modern habit. Instead, I need to adapt to local customs and practices.

Now that I think about it, the shoe reservation slips we hand out to budding adventurers are well received. I make discount vouchers with simple markings and stamps for those who help with foot measurements during the tour. The sight of rough, unsophisticated people from rural areas carefully tucking these vouchers into their pockets for the first time is heartwarming.

If you think about it from the way they look at the time, it seems that it is not impossible to imagine rights. While rights on paper may be difficult to imagine, if the item is right in front of them, its importance can be understood.

So, let’s make rights visible. For valuable rights, let’s create something valuable to represent them.

To be more specific, I could make jewelry in the shape of a shoe. Silver shoe-shaped ornaments could represent the rights for ten pairs of shoes, while gold ornaments could represent the rights for a hundred pairs. Perhaps jewelry with red gemstones could come with transfer restrictions but also voting rights.

By making the shoe priority rights visible and presenting them to stakeholders in a tangible form, and then discussing and dividing them based on power dynamics, I can avoid being squeezed between larger forces. Additionally, since the rights to manufacture shoes are not physically represented, I can keep them.

Each piece of jewelry would have a management number, which can be recorded in a ledger to identify owners and handle theft or illegal transfers.

With this approach, I finally feel like I’ve navigated through a difficult patch.
