Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 59
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
In the end, I decided to leave the Sword Fang Brigade office, concluding the conversation there. I managed to retrieve the sample shoes from Swiberry, claiming they were still under development. There were other discussions I needed to have with the Sword Fang Brigade, but Jilboa’s remarks had fundamentally altered the premise, so I decided to start over.
As I walked towards the inn in the third district, I felt a deep yearning for someone to talk to. In this world, the law favors the strong. Patents are not protected. Technological and business secrets are guarded with violence and power, along with the technologists and the business itself. Promising ventures become significant interests. If it’s just business battles, that’s one thing. There are likely to be plenty of political battles as well. There might even be covert actions like kidnappings or assassinations. It’s no joke.
I’m just a former adventurer with a bad knee. I have some knowledge from the modern world, but that’s it—I’m just an ordinary person. I only started making shoes because I couldn’t bear to watch young adventurers slip and become disabled on their first quests. Honestly, I’d be satisfied with just enough pocket money to live comfortably. I even thought about leaving the shoe business, something far beyond my expertise, to someone else to develop and sell.
But deep down, I knew. I couldn’t entrust this shoe-making to anyone else. Breaking down the manufacturing process, managing costs, and even quality control of components that are not understood or improved in this world’s chain cannot be entrusted to the manufacturing line. If left to the amateurs blinded by money, adventurer shoes will degrade in quality and become luxury items that fledgling adventurers cannot afford. If left to the nobles and important people, it may become a product that only a few high-ranking adventurers can see and use.
I remember boasting that the price of the adventurer shoes I made was two large copper coins. Sara sighed, saying, “I want them, but they’re too expensive for me to buy.”
If these shoes couldn’t reach the budding adventurers who needed them the most, there would be no point in going to all that trouble to make them. What’s the point of adventurer shoes if adventurers don’t wear them?
Anyway, it’s just for one year. In the first year, I will supervise every aspect myself, from arranging craftsmen to selecting shoelace types and sewing needles, taking full responsibility to get the business off the ground. Whatever it takes—whether it’s dealing with debt, negotiating with nobles, or battling assassins—I’ll do it all.
And so, Kenji made up his mind.
