Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

“But it’s strange.”

At Rodolphe’s comment, Paperino—busily writing numbers on a wooden board—looked up and asked, “What is?”

“Well, when you look at it like this, it’s just a piece of wood, right? A board with the task, a name, and a number written on it.”

“That’s true. So what’s strange about it?”

“Just by lining up these pieces of wood, you can see who’s responsible for each task, how detailed the breakdown is, and even estimate the total workload. It’s kind of surreal.”

Paperino nodded at Rodolphe’s words.

“And that’s not all. If you add up all the numbers on these boards, you can calculate the total amount of labor required for the entire plan. And if you know daily wages, you can estimate the total cost for the workers.”

“So basically, just by laying out these boards, you can calculate the entire project budget. That’s amazing.”

“Exactly. The best part is that even amateurs like us can make detailed plans.”

“Right. And if we need to revise the plan, we can just rearrange the boards.”

“Yeah. As long as someone can write numbers, do basic arithmetic, and read simple characters, they can put together a proper plan.”

“And not just simple ones…” Rodolphe continued. “We’re drafting complex development plans for territories we’ve never even seen. That alone proves how powerful this system is. Honestly, isn’t the Church eager to get their hands on it?”

“I won’t deny it,” Paperino admitted. “I can’t even imagine how much this would change things for the Church. Territorial development, cathedral construction—up until now, all of that required years of experience. If this method spreads, it’ll revolutionize civil engineering. The cost of building bridges, improving roads, and putting up walls could drop by several percent. It would definitely contribute to the expansion of human society.”

This time, Rodolphe was the one taken aback. “Seriously? That much?”

“Yes. I really think it has that much potential. When I first read the report, I was stunned. Just spreading this planning method alone would be an achievement on par with sainthood.”

“I wonder what the Governor is thinking… If he kept it to himself, it’d bring him immense prestige. But instead, he’s teaching it to people like us…”

“Kenji’s not thinking about anything.”

Their conversation came to a halt at Sara’s interruption.

“Kenji’s never thought about sainthood or recognition. He’s just always focused on how to make things work.” She spoke without looking up, continuing to write numbers on her board.

Her tone was so firm and sincere that neither Paperino nor Rodolphe could say anything more. They simply returned to their task in silence.

By the time they’d finished marking every board, the sun had already set. They agreed to continue the rest of the work the following day.

When Sara finally returned to the office, completely drained, Kenji was waiting for her—just like the night before—with hot tea and a bowl of soup.

“Good work. Looks like things are going well.”

“My brain’s been in overdrive these past two days… I feel like I could boil water just by pressing my head to a pot.”

“That sounds dangerous. Let’s eat first.”

“Yeah…”

Sara treasured this time—sharing meals and light conversation with Kenji after work.

Not long ago, she’d been doing dangerous jobs, eating cold barley porridge or stale bread in dingy inns while counting copper coins just to survive.

Now she had a warm home, a job that didn’t risk her life, and hot, hearty meals.

More than that, she—a farmer and former adventurer—was working with priests and officials on something no one had ever been taught before.

She hoped these happy days would last as long as possible.

That was what Sara truly wished for.
