Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

After announcing the team breakup, the two groups formed circles and began their discussions.

The fact that they were even having a proper discussion was already an improvement from last time.

I waited a little to see if there were any questions, then headed to the shoe workshop to give instructions.

I had to prepare for the governor’s appointment, but I couldn’t neglect my current work. In that sense, being able to hold lectures in this workshop was convenient.

The most limited resource in managing both the governor’s appointment and the shoe business was my time, so structuring my work to maximize efficiency was crucial. If I were to rent a church for the lectures, it would waste a lot of travel time.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

In another corner of the expanding workshop, Gorgoro was testing out a printing press made from a modified wine press.

He was currently experimenting with this prototype printing press to create documents for managing the territory and textbooks for my lectures.

For simple document templates, there was no need for the delicate detail achieved with copperplate printing — block printing would suffice. However, the meticulous Gorgoro seemed determined to experiment with different types of ink and varying levels of pressure.

“It’s easier to read documents with thin lines,” he explained, though it seemed more like he just wanted to take on a technically challenging task.

Helping him was an elegant young boy who had run away from home and had been training as an apprentice for some time.

After discussing things with his parents, they decided he should work for the company first while they carefully considered his next training destination.

Previously, they had ignored his wishes and sent him off for training, but he ran away from that placement. This time, they wanted to choose his next path more thoughtfully. They hoped that doing some menial work at a painting studio would temper his illusions about pursuing art and guide him toward a more practical career.

The studio had offered him no wages for that period, but he declined.

Even during training, I believed apprentices should be paid to foster a sense of responsibility. Besides, Gorgoro genuinely needed more assistants.

In the past, Gorgoro had tried assigning several craftsmen as assistants, but the shoe business was so demanding that he couldn’t spare anyone full-time.

“Okay, now draw straight lines on this copper plate — 20 evenly spaced lines,” Gorgoro instructed.

“Yes, okay,” the boy replied.

He was drawing what seemed to be the master copy for a notebook, following Gorgoro’s instructions.

The company didn’t have proper drafting equipment, so the boy carefully drew lines with a makeshift ruler — a tool made of thin, straight boards joined in a cross shape, which he held against a wide board for support.

It goes without saying that drawing straight, parallel lines efficiently requires a specialized tool.

I had casually mentioned to Gorgoro that I wanted a document like this, and that seemed to have sparked his engineer’s spirit.

To efficiently manage both the governor’s duties and the shoe business, proper training for officials and the preparation of administrative documents were crucial.

Gorgoro and young Elan, who assisted him, had a tough road ahead — but for now, they would need to keep pushing forward.
