Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

“It’s delicious! I haven’t had such a sumptuous meal since the Vice-Captain’s wedding!”

As Sara rubs her now round and swollen belly, she seems eager to talk about the delicious food Jilboa prepared for the banquet.

“I had no idea there were so many different kinds of bread!”

“And meat! So much meat!”

Sara comments like a child who’s been deprived of food, and I nod, recalling the food from the previous banquet.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

The banquet prepared by Jilboa is satisfying in both quantity and quality, even by the standards of my original world.

After the light aperitif, a basket containing several types of bread is brought out.

There’s large white bread, small round white bread, and brown bread, but there’s also flat, circular bread, bread twisted into the shape of an eight, and rolls.

Both loaves are generously seasoned with salt and butter, a clear sign of the Sword Fangs Legion’s wealth. Sara devours the chewy, rich-flavored bread with gusto.

I particularly enjoy the beef liver pâté that’s served with the bread. The moderate bitterness and salt pair perfectly with the bread.

Next comes a rabbit and onion stew, apparently with a hint of wine as a secret ingredient.

The stew is rich with the flavor of the well-cooked, tender meat, and you can savor it down to the last drop, wiping the plate clean with a piece of bread.

And then, finally, the main event.

The main ingredients are beef and chicken.

The meat served at Father Nicolo’s banquet had been somewhat dry and unsatisfying, but here, the meat is roasted whole and then cut into pieces—nothing too fancy, just simply prepared. Even Sara and I, with our less refined palates, can tell how delicious it is.

After the juicy beef, a whole roasted chicken awaits.

The chicken is stuffed with herbs, grilled until crispy, then carved with the skin on, and handed out to each person.

Properly cooked chicken skin is a delight.

There’s a sauce, but I prefer to eat it with just salt.

When we’re completely full, fruit pie and tea are served.

It seems Jilboa is being considerate of me, knowing I don’t have much tolerance for alcohol.

At noble banquets, wine mixed with hot water is often served to wash away the oil from the food.

I prefer coffee, but there’s no point in asking for something that doesn’t exist.

I had thought Sara liked sweet fruit, but I’m surprised that her eyes don’t light up quite as much as they did for the bread and meat.

It could just be that she ate too much and couldn’t fit anything else in her stomach.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

“Hmm… if I become a noble, I wonder if I’ll be able to eat food like that every day…” Sara says, and I reply.

“Even nobles don’t eat like that every day. It’s not about money— their bodies can’t keep up. No matter how important you are, you only have one mouth and one stomach.”

Apparently, in Rome, there was a hellish custom of vomiting when full and then eating again, but this world is obviously not that wealthy.

“But today, I wish I had four mouths and three stomachs. There was so much I wanted to eat!”

What kind of monster is that?

“But today, Sara looked like she had two mouths and two stomachs.”

When I tease her about her eating habits, she raises her fist in anger.

As the sun sets over the city walls, Sara and I walk hand in hand through the line of people hurrying home.

It’s nice to have days like this every once in a while.
