- Chapter 324 - Where Are the People Who Can Draw?
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
The first drawing has squiggly lines, and the left and right sides are uneven. It seems the craftsmen need to get used to using a brush first.
The second drawing has double and triple contour lines, showing the struggle to capture the shape of the skull.
The third drawing looks completely different, as though they are trying to illustrate what they imagine in their head rather than what they see.
“Well, it’s not exactly going to be easy,” I comment while looking at the drawings that the craftsmen struggle to create.
“Of course not. They’ve never drawn before,” Sara, who has made tea, replies.
“In fact, children might end up drawing better since they don’t have bad habits yet.”
Artistic talent doesn’t really depend on age.
If we focus on long-term results, it might be a good idea to offer painting lessons to the children of the craftsmen as an investment for the future.
Currently, the Guardian shoes for adventurers are sold based only on their functionality, but in the future, they will likely be marketed with added design and features.
Personally, I like the story of how the Model T Ford, the first mass-produced car for the general public, is painted only in black because it is more efficient for mass production. But it would be nice to have more color options while still ensuring mass production.
Sara seems to like her red shoes, too.
“Yeah, a lot of the kids who come in seem pretty sharp, so they’ll probably get the hang of it.”
Sara seems to have a favorite child who often comes to help recently, and she dotes on him a lot.
Perhaps he reminds her of younger siblings left behind in her rural hometown.
As the production of the Guardian’s shoes continues to increase, the craftsmen’s wives and children have been coming in to help.
This temporary system is put in place when the Cardinal’s shoes are produced. I had considered stopping it because it might place a burden on them, but when I mentioned it, the craftsmen and their families strongly opposed the idea.
It’s not a large amount of money being paid, but “The food is delicious, so we want to keep coming here,” the children who help out in the mornings say.
I was initially reluctant to have children work, due to my background, but since it’s only for about two hours in the morning and it improves their nutrition, I decided to continue it. It’s almost like distributing lunch to the local area.
Saving on firewood in the morning is likely a blessing for the craftsmen’s families as well.
Leather Street has an abundance of heat sources for commercial use in processing, and having freshly cooked, warm food in the morning also helps avoid hygiene issues like food poisoning and the risk of injuries from cooking in the dark.
Plus, sharing a meal with a large group who’s working together makes the food taste even better.

After much thought, I decided to recruit adventurers who can draw at the Adventurer’s Guild.
That said, I don’t expect them to produce a finished product right away.
It’s more like a little competition: we post prints of the Baron’s drawings as samples, and within a set period of time, we reward the adventurer who can copy them the best.
Since ghostwriting isn’t allowed, I decided to offer a bounty of two large copper coins to the best painter within ten days, on the condition that they work within the guild and use my tools.
Two large copper coins is the same amount offered for raiding a small goblin nest.
It doesn’t require any weapons or armor, can be done by just one person, and since I provide the painting tools, many adventurers flock to the guild’s reception desk to take on the request.
There are especially many novice adventurers, unsure about their weapons, who seem eager to win the bounty and use the money to improve their gear.
I frequently receive requests from the guild to “replenish their tools” and spend my days reviewing the completed parchments.
While most of the paintings show effort, a few really catch my eye.
