Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 236
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
Anyway, the fact that a magician employed by some noble is targeting our company has gone from a concern to a certainty. At this point, staying on the defensive is too dangerous. We need to take the offensive and find and eliminate the magician who has infiltrated the city.
Since we have actually been attacked, the Sword Fangs Legion will probably take action, but that alone won’t be enough to track him down.
While I wonder what to do, Sara speaks up. “Let’s make a request to the Adventurer’s Guild.”
That certainly sounds like a good idea.
“If we say that Kenji was attacked, I’m sure everyone will search hard for him!” Sara adds emphatically.
“Maybe so.”
I hate to admit it, but I have built a bit of a reputation among the staff and novice adventurers at the Adventurer’s Guild. There would be quite a few people outraged to hear that someone from another town tried to harm me. If we put a bounty on the magician, adventurers would likely pursue him diligently, making it difficult for him to move around freely in broad daylight. Even if we can’t catch him, it would serve as an effective deterrent.
After a moment of thought, I call out to Kiriku.
“Kiriku, I want you to go to the Adventurer’s Guild right now and submit a request. The request is to capture or kill the magician who attacked me. The bounty will be five large silver coins, and the time frame is until the unveiling of the Cardinal’s Shoes. Since there’s a risk of being cursed with magic, go in pairs. Is that okay?”
Kiriku nods but hesitates for a moment before asking, “Ah, yeah. But are you sure? Five large silver coins… that’s enough to live comfortably for a few years, you know?”
I reply frankly, “Nothing is worth more than a life.”
The production and sales of the Guardian’s Shoes are going well, and if the Cardinal wears the Pioneer’s Shoes and showcases them, we can recoup that amount. If we don’t get through this now, we won’t have a future, and we won’t be able to make any money.
“Okay, I get it! Leave it to me!” Kiriku says, preparing to stand.
“Wait. I have one more request. On your way back from the Adventurer’s Guild, stop by the Sword Fangs Legion office and give this report to Jilboa.” I hand him a letter sealed with wax.
“What is this?” he asks.
“It’s about the security plan we discussed earlier. I wanted to talk to him in person, but going out in the current situation would be suicide. Please make sure to deliver it.”
“If that’s the case, it’s easy. Well, I’ll leave Kenji to you.” Kiriku stands up, leaving Sara and me alone.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let you out!” Sara says, grabbing onto my arm as if she is nearly clinging to me.
Does she think I’d run away if she lets go after the attack?
I can’t definitively say that I am not still under the influence of magic. I never realize how helpless I can feel not knowing who I am.
So, I decided to stay quietly in the office and wait for the adventurers to get to work. Still, not being able to do anything leaves me feeling uneasy.
“Don’t worry, we’ll definitely catch him,” Sara calls out to me, as if sensing my mood.
“Yeah, I guess so.” Even though I reply, my spirits don’t lift.
