Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 203
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
According to Deacon Michelino, I am supposed to wait about two months for Father Nicolo’s return, but the next summons comes about a month later. It’s quite a bit earlier than I anticipated. Should I consider that I managed to pique Father Nicolo’s interest?
Recently, communication with the church has improved significantly due to the partnership between the Adventurers’ Guild and the church. Now, whether I go to the church in the third district or the Adventurers’ Guild, I can receive letters from Father Nicolo.
It seems that the sharing of reports is going well, too.
While it’s a subtle change, it’s a clear indication of how the church’s convenience has improved for adventurers.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
The location to meet Father Nicolo is designated as the church in the second district used for education.
If it were just a normal discussion, I would expect to be summoned to the accommodations attached to the cathedral in the first district.
Could we be discussing something secret again?
Even though it is a topic I bring up, I still feel nervous.
When I arrived at the church at the designated time, Father Nicolo and Deacon Michelino hurriedly approached.
Seeing me and Sara waiting, Father Nicolo wastes no time in greeting us before speaking.
“Hmm, it’s commendable that you arrived early. Michelino, please explain.”
“Yes, yes. We have come today to discuss the matter you proposed. Regarding that concept…”
Deacon Michelino, who is suddenly assigned to explain, hurriedly takes out a parchment from his bag, but Father Nicolo interrupts him.
“Kenji, let’s talk about the shoes. I want to discuss a bit more about the specialized organization to manage profits.”
“Yes, I intend to provide that explanation today.”
“Well, first of all, it’s a good idea to donate a portion of the profits from the sale of the shoes to the church as charity. But why not donate it directly to the church? Is there a reason?”
“As you may have guessed, the system of adjusting the amount of charity based on the number of pioneer shoes sold doesn’t align well with the church’s method of managing income.”
“I see. Why is that?”
“I believe the church’s primary income comes from charity collected from farmland and fees for managing land ownership transfers associated with the birth registry. Recently, it seems they’ve also been lending development funds to nobles through wealthy merchants.”
“Hmm. That’s significant. You’re right. Then there are births and funerals. Holding funerals for great nobles is a major source of income for the church. We also perform magical healing, but it’s not as profitable—the catalysts are too expensive. So, you’re saying it’s different from those forms of income?”
“Yes. These are, in a sense, income earned by the work of everyone in the church.”
“That’s right. Except for lending funds, it’s all labor-generated income.”
“But the charity we give from the sale of pioneer shoes doesn’t require any labor from the church.”
“I see. So why donate charity to the church when no work is required?” Father Nicolo’s eyes sparkle with amusement.
