  3. Chapter 196 - Profit from Bidding

Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Thus, the bidding goes smoothly despite some minor issues.

“Too much profit…” I groan in front of the mountain of gold and silver coins.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

The enthusiasm of the inter-city merchants is intense, and the bidding war has palpable tension.

I don’t want to inflate the prices like in an auction, so I adopt a system where bids are written on pieces of paper. Instead of determining the top ten bids in a single round, I decided to conduct ten rounds of bidding to determine the winner.

This approach is meant to reduce the number of merchants eliminated due to mistakes in writing or significantly incorrect amounts.

However, reducing mistakes also means that the pricing is done correctly.

And so, the result is that the pricing of the Guardian Shoes is conducted normally in the market, resulting in the gleaming wealth before me.

It’s no wonder that Gooljin is envied since he has monopolized this profit.

“Wow… that’s amazing…” As usual, Sara’s eyes sparkle just as much as the pile of gold coins in front of her.

“Wow, that’s incredible.” Kiriku, the bodyguard of the Sword Fangs Legion, seems to share the same impression, given the large sums of money involved. Coming from a merchant family himself, he has a keen sense of money.

After only an hour of bidding, he’s likely surprised by the enthusiasm of the inter-city merchants who are paying in gold coins in advance.

Indeed, the inter-city merchants left their gold coins as an advance payment.

As for me, I would be fine with a deposit amount equivalent to the wholesale price of five large copper coins per pair of shoes, or even just one large copper coin multiplied by a hundred as the cost. However, Anne, who is in charge of advertising, and Jilboa, a shareholder, stopped me.

They stopped me, or rather, they scolded me.

“Come on, you’re selling something expensive, so stop with that humble approach to selling!”

“Absolutely. You should understand the value of what you’ve created a little better.”

Calling it a humble approach is quite a strong expression, but I understand their point.

The Guardian Shoes are still a high-end product in short supply.

The market price is an honest one, and the price reflects how much demand there is for what I make.

Market prices are honest indicators; they reflect how much demand there is for what I’ve created.

No matter how well I think I’ve crafted something, if it’s not in demand from customers, I won’t be able to sell it at a high price. Conversely, if there is demand, the price will be set to a certain level regardless of cost.

In short, the product known as Guardian Shoes is widely supported as a luxury item in this world.

At the same time, it also indicates that there is still a significant shortage in supply.

“What? You’re going to spend it immediately? Even after earning so much!”

“That means we should invest that profit to increase the supply of Guardian Shoes. Just think of it that way.”

It seems that Anne and Jilboa have completely different views on how to use future funds, but Jilboa is right.

We need capital on hand now to dramatically increase production quantities.

The buyers of the Guardian Shoes acquired by the inter-city merchants would likely be adventurers or nobles from other cities.

I should think of it as using outside funds to invest in the fledgling adventurers of this city.

As a result, the company’s profits tripled starting this month.
