Yan Cai remained silent, and Jiang Manyue let down the curtain, calmly speaking a sentence.

“No need to pay attention to her.”

These words infuriated Madam Fu, but neither of them was prepared to engage with her, denying her even the opportunity to retort. Madam Fu wanted to block the direction they were going, deliberately positioning her sedan chair in the center to block their path.

“Move aside,” Jiang Manyue said sternly.

The stern reprimand made Madam Fu tremble, but she stubbornly insisted on confronting them. However, Jiang Manyue remained silent, and Madam Fu thought they were intimidated and ready to concede, feeling a sense of satisfaction.

Yet, the scene inside the carriage was not as Madam Fu expected.

Qingke, who was sleeping soundly in Yan Cai’s arms, was startled awake by Jiang Manyue’s voice. Half asleep, he blinked his eyes, tears hanging at the corners.

Jiang Manyue pushed the child towards Yan Cai, got off the carriage, and Madam Fu felt a chill down her spine upon seeing him, instinctively taking two steps back.

“I’ll ask one more time, will you move aside? Otherwise, I won’t be polite.”

“How impolite do you want to be? With so many witnesses here, if you dare to touch me, everyone will see it. Tomorrow, I’ll report to the officials and to the court. I’m afraid you wouldn’t want news of the newly appointed top scholar mistreating a woman to spread throughout the capital.”

Madam Fu was not afraid of him resorting to violence. If he did, she could immediately cry out injustice.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Manyue just smiled faintly and walked past her. The moment he approached, Madam Fu hurriedly moved away, perhaps fearing that Jiang Manyue might become ruthless and ignore all consequences.

Jiang Manyue is cruel. She has noticed it a long time ago, so she is wary.

However, as he walked past her without touching her, it was clear he had no intention of touching her at all.

He walked to the sedan and stopped. Madam Fu felt a thump in her heart when she heard Jiang Manyue say, “I don’t know who left something in the middle of the road, blocking the way. I like to do good deeds, so I’ll help clear the obstruction for the passersby.”

“Stop!” Madam Fu shrieked, but the sedan chair in front of her suddenly turned into a pile of debris. With a crash, Madam Fu covered her mouth.

How dare this barbarian!

Jiang Manyue brushed the dust off his hands, praising himself.

“I am such a helpful person. I have disposed of the rubbish blocking the road, and the path is finally clear. I wonder who the morally corrupt person is who left things here. The face reflects the heart; it must be a villain with sores on his head.”

“You!” How could she not hear the insults hidden in his words?

Jiang Manyue returned to the carriage, instructing Zhu to continue driving.

“The road is clear now. Let’s go.”

The carriage sped forward, splashing through a puddle on the road. With a splash, dirty water sprayed up in a series of muddy splashes, all landing on Madam Fu.

Madam Fu wiped the mud off her face with a black expression, suddenly feeling dizzy, her vision blurred, and she fainted immediately. The servants were initially stunned, then quickly rushed to support Madam Fu.

However, Madam Fu was the mistress of the house. These servants hesitated not only because of her status but also because of her gender. They even hesitated for a moment before lifting her up.

Yan Cai poked his head out of the rear window of the carriage,  satisfied with the chaos there. Let her suffer for a few days; it serves her right for being hostile.

He didn’t intend to kill Madam Fu; at most, he wanted her to be unconscious for a few days. But this incident had caused panic in the Jiang household.

The mistress had suddenly fainted for no apparent reason. When the physicians came, they couldn’t find any wounds or signs of poisoning, yet she remained unconscious.

Under these circumstances, anyone who had conflicts with Madam Fu was highly suspicious.

According to reports from several servants, Madam Fu had a confrontation with Jiang Manyue and his family on the way to the temple, and then she fainted without any warning.

Jiang Nan furrowed his brows deeply, convinced that it was the disobedient son and his son-in-law who did it. Those two little scoundrels.

Unfortunately, none of the other physicians were of any use, and even the royal physician they managed to get through connections claimed to be powerless.

“I’m really sorry, Master Jiang. We really can’t figure out why Madam is unconscious…”

“Not poisoned?” Jiang Nan interrupted.

The imperial physician frowned, feeling somewhat uneasy at the mention of poisoning. Perhaps remembering the previous incident where the emperor was poisoned and the entire hospital was helpless. There was a certain fear associated with the idea of poisoning.

“If it’s poison…” the imperial physician sighed, “then this poison is quite potent. We really have no solution. Perhaps only the one who administered the poison would have the antidote.”

“The one who administered the poison?” Jiang Nan murmured.

But the imperial physician added, “It might not necessarily be poison. The human body is complex; it could be a problem with a particular organ.”

Jiang Nan sent the imperial physician away. Before leaving, several physicians who had been previously humbled by a young man suddenly spoke up.

“Master Jiang, Why not consult Brother Yan Cai? Last time, all of us were helpless. Only Brother Yan Cai turned the tide and finally saved the emperor. We think Brother Yan Cai’s medical skills might surpass ours. You could go and seek his help.”

Another chimed in, “Yes, yes! He’s quite amiable. I’ve consulted him on some difficult questions before.”

Jiang Nan’s expression gradually changed amidst the chatter of the group, as it dawned on him that he was being urged to seek Yan Cai’s help—a prospect he found impossible.

Finally, one of them broached the topic Jiang Nan least wanted to hear.

“Brother Yan Cai and the new Imperial Scholar are a pair, right? That Imperial Scholar…” Several people cast their gaze towards Jiang Nan. “The Imperial Scholar is the son, so Lord Jiang could directly go find Brother Yan Cai. If we consider it, Lord Jiang should be Brother Yan Cai’s father-in-law. But then, can they still be considered in-laws?”

The man fell into deep thought, and Jiang Nan’s face became darker and darker, eventually resembling the bottom of a black pot.

After seeing off the imperial physicians, Jiang Nan returned to his room and sat on a stool. Occasionally, he glanced at Madam Fu on the bed, weighing the importance of saving her against saving his face.

Perhaps there was some affection in his younger years, but over the years, there was no warmth between them—only the entanglement of family ties and interests.

His younger son abruptly barged in, startled to find his father sitting silently in the room.

“Fa-father!” He was somewhat afraid of his father.

The eldest brother, who was smart and handsome since he was a child, left home a long time ago. The somewhat proud second brother also departed for an official position not long ago. The gentle and courteous third brother, who treated him well, also left with the elder brother, leaving only him to face his father.

Because of this, he tried to avoid meeting his father as much as possible, only rushing over today when he heard his mother had fainted.

Jiang Nan was still lost in thought, ignoring his younger son. Jiang Manyang cautiously approached the bed, feeling somewhat upset to see his mother showing no response.

Before he came in, he had already heard that the imperial physician had been here, but he didn’t see any improvement on his mother.

Jiang Manyang sighed and muttered softly to himself, “I heard that sister-in-law is very capable. If it were him, he would definitely be able to cure mother. Unfortunately, sister-in-law doesn’t get along with the family and wouldn’t be willing.”

Jiang Nan immediately stood up, feeling somewhat annoyed.

Neither of them listened; he was the father, and the son had to listen to the father. What was wrong with having his son’s wife treat his mother in-law’s illness?

Not looking down of  Yan Cai low status after marrying into their family was already magnanimous enough… If he wasn’t willing to fulfill this small request from his father-in-law, then don’t even think about entering the Jiang family.

Yan Cai was shocked when he heard Jiang Nan’s unreasonable words. Although they were expressed more politely when addressed to Yan Cai, the underlying message was still the same.

To put it bluntly, he looked down on Yan Cai’s humble status, feeling that he wasn’t worthy of the prestigious Jiang family.

Yan Cai couldn’t help but find it absurd. Leaving aside the fact that Jiang Manyue and Yan Cai has no relationship with the Jiang family anymore, the other party’s despising attitude when asking for help was enough to make him sick.

“Oh? You look down on my humble status? I’m sorry, but this is who I am. You have no right to be selective. As for your wife, I have absolutely no connection with her. If you want me to treat her, then it’s just one sentence,” Yan Cai sneered, “Dream on. Don’t even think about it.”

Jiang Nan’s vision blurred momentarily, nearly fainting from anger. Yan Cai sensed hypertension using his ability.

“Hey, if you faint, stay away from our house. Don’t try to blame it on us; I don’t have money to compensate you.”

Fuming with rage! Jiang Nan was supported back home, and with his wife still unconscious, he was almost fed up with the situation.

Jiang Manyue later found out that Yan Cai had reprimanded Jiang Nan so much that he almost made Jiang Nan faint at their doorstep, and smiled helplessly at Yan Cai. Yan Cai felt warm inside being smiled at by him and pushed Jiang Manyue away.

“Why are you laughing? I almost made your dear father faint today, and you’re still laughing.”

Jiang Manyue stopped Yan Cai from behind and leaned his chin on Yan Cai’s shoulder.

“Suit yourself. But it’s best not to really faint at our doorstep, to avoid any misunderstandings. The Jiang family never lets go of a grudge, and they might end up demanding medical expenses from us instead.”

The two husbands have a clear understanding of each other and think exactly the same way.

Yan Cai turned around and felt deeply that the arrogant and noble Jiang Manyue was being led astray by him, also starting to talk about money and silver everywhere. In the past, Jiang Manyue’s first thought wouldn’t have been about money.

How low he’s fallen. Yan Cai shook his head, approached Jiang Manyue, and nibbled on his lips playfully, and the two exchanged a moist kiss.

After a long while, Yan Cai released Jiang Manyue, frowned, and scrutinized him. However, the more he sniffed around Jiang Manyue, the deeper his frown became.

Jiang Manyue rubbed Yan Cai’s head and joked, “Are you a dog? Why are you sniffing around for?”

Yan Cai pushed away Jiang Manyue’s hand and became serious, his gaze piercing.

“You answer honestly!”

“Huh?” Jiang Manyue was puzzled, making a nasal sound.

“Why do you smell like perfume? Where did you go? Who did you hug? Tell me the truth! If you don’t explain, don’t expect to enter the room tonight!” Yan Cai’s tone became more acidic as he stared at Jiang Manyue, as if he were interrogating a prisoner.

The confused “prisoner” Jiang Manyue responded, “Huh?”

The daughter of Zhang Feng, the commander of the Imperial Forest Army, has always been willful and likes to dress as a man when she goes out. But today, Miss Zhang returned home with a completely different expression than usual.

She encountered danger on her outing today and was fortunately rescued by a handsome young man. Surprisingly, that young man turned out to be the newly appointed top scholar, just as rumored, exceptionally handsome.

It’s said that the top scholar only has a male spouse.

Due to the Zhang family tradition, Miss Zhang has always been bold. After much thought, she mentioned the matter to her father the next day. Zhang Feng glanced at his daughter with curiosity.

As a military general, Zhang Feng didn’t care much about reputation. Therefore, if his daughter found a man she liked and was bold about it, he didn’t oppose it.

It’s just that this is the wrong person. It seemed that Jiang Manyue already had a male spouse, and even a son.

Of course, what puzzled Zhang Feng wasn’t this aspect, but the timing – it was too coincidental.

How come his daughter happened to set her eyes on the imperial top scorer today? He had just heard something when he returned from court in the morning.

Minister Jiang was not satisfied with the male spouse of his son and wanted to find him a new wife. Even the Emperor knew about this matter.
