Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Facing the skepticism of the crowd, Yan Cai remained composed, neither humble nor arrogant.

“I can. Let me try,” his eyes conveyed a kind of power that even those who didn’t believe couldn’t help but be moved, choosing to believe, albeit unconsciously.

It was a mysterious power; in that moment, everyone agreed. The Empress stood up, allowing him to enter, and the imperial physicians made way for him.

When Yan Cai walked in, he smelled blood, and there were traces of vomit on the ground. The Emperor’s complexion was somewhat pale, but using his life-ability to examine his body, he found no life-threatening danger, just temporary shock due to poisoning.

If an antidote wasn’t found, he might remain in a coma indefinitely.

The toxin had entered his bloodstream, which posed a bit of a challenge to resolve. At least, the people present couldn’t stay. He glanced at the string of imperial physicians behind him, knowing they wouldn’t trust him and wouldn’t obediently leave him alone here.

There was no other way.

Even if he used his mental power to make them all leave, people outside would suspect him of plotting. He lowered his sleeve, hiding the green branch that had quietly extended out. The green branch gradually changed color, turning into a blood-like red and emitting an odor imperceptible to humans.

The imperial physicians in the inner chamber immediately felt drowsy, gradually closing their eyes and stiffening in place. Yan Cai waved his hand in front of them, but there was no response.

Good. Don’t move a muscle.

Outside, people were anxiously waiting, none daring to relax. Xia Jue kept watching Jiang Manyue, but Jiang Manyue seemed oblivious to him.

It seems he had really offended him this time.

He turned his head helplessly, looking at the crowd inside. From a distance, it seemed like others were standing while Yan Cai bent over to check the Emperor’s condition.

Clearing the toxin was challenging; the green branch plunged into the Emperor’s chest with a splutter, gradually turning pitch black. All the toxins were absorbed by the devil tree’s branches, and the Emperor’s complexion gradually regained its healthy color.

With another splutter, the blackened branches retracted, gradually losing their darkness as the toxin was diluted by the devil tree’s self-healing ability…

Finally, the branches turned to lush green again.

Yan Cai used his ability to scrutinize the Emperor’s body once more, and then breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, there was no problem. He woke up the several wooden-like imperial physicians, who had no idea what had just happened or that they had been unconscious for a period of time.

No one sensed anything amiss and urged Yan Cai to hurry up; time waits for no one.

Yan Cai pretended to make a few moves, borrowed a silver needle from the imperial physician, and with a single prick, the Emperor woke up.

Imperial Physician: I feel like my intelligence has been insulted. Was there anything special about where the young man pricked? How could the Emperor wake up just like that? Is this some kind of folk magic?

But they couldn’t voice their doubts.

Should they also question how quickly the other party treated the Emperor?

If they did, they might face interrogation and be seen as unwilling to let the Emperor wake up sooner, or as incompetent.

Therefore, even though the imperial physicians had doubts, they remained silent, and did not say a word. Regardless, the fact that this young man woke the Emperor up was indeed excellent.

At least, their heads were temporarily safe. If anything happened to the Emperor, everyone present would be in danger.

So, regardless of their doubts, they didn’t want to delve deeper into the matter and just wanted to turn the page on this issue quickly. Moreover, they hoped the Emperor and the masters of the palace wouldn’t remember their incompetence. If they were investigated, their heads would be on shaky ground.

The Emperor slowly opened his eyes, the scene before him blurry at first but gradually becoming clear.

“Yan Cai, it’s you,” he said slowly. “Cough cough.”

“Your Majesty, you’re awake!” Yan Cai stood up happily. It was good that he woke up.

“I… am thirsty,” the Emperor mumbled.

The imperial physician hurried to pour water, but at this moment, there was probably some apprehension. After pouring the water, the imperial physician was afraid that it might still be poisoned, so he held the cup up high, opened his mouth wide, and poured a little water into his mouth without touching the cup.

After a few seconds to ensure there were no issues, the water was finally brought over.

People outside had already seen movement inside, followed by someone shouting, “The Emperor is awake, the Emperor is awake.”

The Empress quickly entered, followed closely by the Noble Consort. Even though she felt fearful inside, she couldn’t retreat. The more she hid, the more people would suspect her. She needed to appear open and untroubled, giving no one a reason to criticize her.

Several princes followed closely behind, and Xia Jing’s palms were sweaty.

After the shock, he finally came to his senses. Someone was framing him. If anyone was most likely to frame him, besides Xia Jue, there was no one else. His eyes stared intensely at Xia Jue’s back, full of hatred, like a knife.

Xia Jue’s heart was not calm; things weren’t developing as he had imagined.

The situation with Jiang Manyue had gone wrong. Obviously, he had completely offended Jiang Manyue. He could never figure out that the reason why he offended Jiang Manyue was because he used Yan Cai.

His analysis of Jiang Manyue wasn’t entirely wrong. To Jiang Manyue, who becomes the  Emperor didn’t matter; He is the type of person who lacked loyalty to the monarch.

He is only loyal to his own principles.

The imperial physicians removed the blocking screen, and the Emperor’s face appeared before everyone. Besides looking a bit pale, he seemed fine.

Xia Jue wasn’t surprised. He had dared to bet because he believed in Yan Cai’s abilities, which could definitely cure the Emperor. Indeed, Yan Cai didn’t disappoint him.

Yan Cai stood beside the Emperor. Despite trying to diminish his presence in the eyes of everyone, he couldn’t escape notice.

The Emperor drew attention to him again, after awakening. He didn’t speak to his wife, children, or courtiers. He only said, “Fortunately, we have Yan Cai; otherwise, I might have…”

“Your Majesty!” Before anyone else could speak, they all knelt down in shock, “Your Majesty, may you enjoy the blessings of heaven and immortals forever. Long live, long live, long live!”

Yan Cai looked at the sea of kneeling heads, feeling a bit dazed. How did they suddenly kneel like that while talking? Among the crowd of bowed heads, he found the distinctive head of Jiang Manyue.

Everyone knelt down, and it seemed inappropriate for him not to kneel, but he really didn’t want to. What’s with the ancient people, kneeling at the drop of a hat? Aren’t they afraid of developing chronic illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis?

The Emperor sensed his reluctance to kneel down. The Emperor thought to himself, This child is truly sincere; he even openly shows his reluctance to kneel.

“Everyone, get up.”

The Emperor instructed them to stand up. But his next words made everyone feel like kneeling down again and kowtowing in repentance.

“I know some of you wish for my demise…”

As soon as these words were spoken, some felt the urge to immediately cut off their heads and confess. Jiang Manyue didn’t kneel with the others at this moment. If he didn’t have such thoughts, why would he confess his guilt?

Regardless of everyone’s hidden motives, Jiang Manyue’s gaze was always more focused on Yan Cai. Seeing him safe and sound, Jiang Manyue felt somewhat relieved.

“Check, thoroughly investigate this matter for me. I want to know who dares to poison me.” His gaze swept through those closest to him, his most intimate women and children.

The closer you are to someone, the deeper they stab you. The eyes of Emperor Taifeng became increasingly cold and indifferent. He no longer trusted anyone, regardless of who they were.

Everyone’s eager to kill me off and take my place, aren’t they? The so-called father-son affection is nothing but a joke within the palace.

The Emperor felt exhausted. Tonight, he didn’t want to dwell on these matters anymore; he just wanted to sleep peacefully without any disturbances.

The civil and military officials lingering in the palace were finally allowed to leave. Whether everyone’s heart was relieved remained a question mark.

Some felt relieved, while others carried heavier burdens on their shoulders.

Yan Cai took a bath, his wet hair dripping onto the floor. Jiang Manyue couldn’t bear it and took the initiative to help Yan Cai dry his hair with a towel.

These towels were made of cotton they had grown from seeds Jiang Manyue had brought back. Yan Cai personally nurtured the cotton, spun it into yarn, and wove it into cloth, using it even before the Emperor did.

After the court’s cotton experiment was completed, it’s estimated that Yan Cai and his team could sell a small portion of the cotton fabric. Of course, Yan Cai was reluctant to give these cotton materials to others; they weren’t even enough for his own use.

The cotton Yan Cai nurtured had a lighter, softer, and warmer texture, and it was more durable. By now, Yan Cai had already demonstrated and described how to make underwear to Hong Yu, who then followed his verbal instructions.

Not only did Yan Cai find it convenient, but Hong Yu also found it quite magical. Especially for women, these triangular undergarments that the young master called “Briefs” were very convenient.

While Jiang Manyue was drying Yan Cai’s hair and carrying a chubby baby on his back, Yan Cai kept murmuring in his ear.

“Hey, why are they so audacious, daring to poison people in public? It’s so bold. It’s fortunate that I was there; otherwise, how could the poison be so easily resolved?” Yan Cai looked up at him, his moist lips resembling delicious osmanthus cakes.

“Yes, yes, you’re the best.” Jiang Manyue lowered his head and couldn’t help taking a bite.

Yan Cai suddenly sat up straight. Damn, the brat was still on Manyue’s back. Qingke was particularly happy at this moment, Yan Cai doesn’t know why he was so happy, clapping his hands  alone.

As soon as his hands relaxed, the baby fell from Jiang Manyue’s back, thumping onto the bed. The baby was stunned, with a vacant expression, rubbing his buttocks.

Yan Cai couldn’t bear to look. Whose intelligence did his son inherit? He’s so silly.

“But fortunately, our son is silly and couldn’t plot to overthrow the dynasty or dig into his dad’s secrets. Isn’t that right?” Yan Cai spoke to Jiang Manyue while holding his son, kissing and kissing him. “Silly son! Let Dad kiss the silly son!”

Jiang Manyue’s hand, helping him dry his hair, paused. Did Cai Cai already figure out the truth? He didn’t want to soil Yan Cai’s ears with such dirty matters, but he hadn’t expected Cai Cai to figure it out on his own.

“Do you know…”

“Know what?” Yan Cai innocently lifted his head, and the chubby baby in his arms had a pair of identical eyes.

Both big and small had wet, deer-like eyes, staring at him. Jiang Manyue shook his head.

“It’s nothing. You must be tired today. Finish drying your hair and go to sleep quickly.”

Choosing not to speculate whether he knew, he chose to keep his family away from troubles. Closing his eyes and blocking his ears was to build a high wall, ensuring peace for their family.

However, troubles always come uninvited, entangling them at every turn.
