Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

The darkness receded in an instant, and light appeared in front of Yan Cai’s eyes, and his teammate standing on top of someone.

“Yan Cai? Yan Cai? Are you awake?” His teammate kicked the person underneath him again, only managing to leave them bruised and swollen. If they hadn’t happened to stumble into this person’s room and caught him, they wouldn’t know how much longer they’d be trapped in the illusion.

“I, I’m awake.” Yan Cai pressed his forehead and didn’t tell his teammates what just happened. That man and that kid he met—were so weird.

“What about the others?”

“Oh, some of them woke up a while ago and went to look for other missing teammates. You’re a bit slow to wake up.” His teammate casually informed him and then turned away, continuing to confront the person beneath him. Though he noticed Yan Cai’s strangeness, their relationship wasn’t close, so he didn’t say much more. Telling him once was already considered enough.

That’s the relationship between people now; so-called teammates are just fleeting acquaintanceship. Life and death are one’s own affair.

Soon, other teammates returned, some with traces of tears in the corners of their eyes, some looking very tired, some still shaken. Yan Cai noticed that the number of people wasn’t right.

There are fewer people.

“Where are the others?”

“Dead.” The person who came back replied. Just one simple word, without much emotion, seemed especially indifferent. It seems particularly cold.

However, in this era, death was an extremely common occurrence, not worth making a fuss about.

However, this time Yan Cai felt a bit surprised. Although the illusion was very powerful and terrifyingly real, it was still just a relatively harmless illusion, so how could it lead to death?

However, Yan Cai was careful not to express his questions, but others present helped him ask his questions.

“Dead? Although the illusion is very real, it’s not that scary, right? I dreamt about my deceased parents…” the woman with tears in her eyes said, “What did you all dream about?”

“I dreamt about my wife and the child we never had.”

“I dreamt about my best friend.”

There were also those who dreamt about unpleasant things.

“I dreamt about a thief.” The person still shaken said, patting his chest. “I remember him. He robbed me before and even beat me up.”

“I dreamt about my ex-husband. He was not a good person.”

There were also some who hesitated to speak, looking like they didn’t encounter anything good. But it didn’t matter; the mastermind was still lying on the ground.

A beating prompted the truth from the person. It turned out his ability could trap people in illusions, with each person experiencing a unique illusion, usually involving the most important people in their lives or those who had a significant impact on them, evoking their greatest fears, joys, or unforgettable memories.

Naturally, there were some unspeakable things involving individuals with vile and despicable characters, and many who died in the illusions did so because the events they experienced in the illusions were too terrible.

For instance, the person who was still shaken, if he was not awakened by someone, he might still be engulfed in the fear of being beaten up by the robber.

Or the woman who suffered domestic violence from her ex-husband; she still felt waves of pain, even though she no longer needed to fear the abusive man from her past. However, the shadows of the memories still linger.

In the illusion, she received his endless assaults and was powerless to fight back.

However, no matter what their illusions are, it doesn’t make sense to Yan Cai.

“What if I have no impression of the people I met in the illusion at all.”

The illusionist, who had been beaten, no longer resisted. Upon hearing Yan Cai’s words, he immediately said, “That’s impossible. You must be mistaken. My ability is never wrong.”

He looked so confident that Yan Cai was unable to doubt his honesty. Besides, what would be the point of fabricating such lies?

“My illusions never fail. Some people are even unwilling to leave. Only in the illusion can they meet the most important people in their lives. Many people should thank me, and I even specially invited some to enter the illusion.”

“The most important people…” Yan Cai muttered. The pair of a man and a child didn’t seem threatening, evidently not part of the childhood trauma series…

The person probably noticed Yan Cai’s confusion about the illusion, deliberately adopting a gloomy tone, and asked Yan Cai, “Who did you see?”

“Who did I see? I… I…”

He couldn’t remember. The faces that had been very clear just now gradually faded from his memory. He only felt that the person seemed very familiar, very familiar; he seemed to have seen him before. However, gradually, he forgot the people he had encountered.

After the temporal imbalance, people’s memories would also be corrected. Yan Cai’s memory had been corrected, and he would gradually forget about having mistakenly entered another world.

In another time and space, Jiang Manyue’s memory would also be adjusted.

Yan Cai opened his mouth, hands suspended in the air, not sure where to put them.

“You… you’re awake!” He stammered, “You’re better! Thank goodness, you’re really better.”

Yan Cai put down the bowl, rushed over, and ran his hands over Jiang Manyue’s body, checking every part to confirm that there was really nothing wrong, and chanted “Amitabha” several times.

“I’m fine.” Jiang Manyue gently held Yan Cai’s trembling hand. “It’s you…”

“Hmm?” Yan Cai looked at him strangely, puzzled as to why Jiang Manyue stopped mid-sentence.

“You…” Jiang Manyue suddenly held his head, his head ached terribly whenever he tried to think carefully, “I forgot. I can’t remember.”

Yan Cai felt heartbroken seeing him in pain, sweat covering his forehead.

“If you can’t remember, then don’t. It’s not important. It’s already great that you woke up. I don’t have anything else to ask for.”

Jiang Manyue wanted to say it was a very important matter, but seeing Yan Cai, he couldn’t say more.

“I’m sorry for worrying you.” He embraced Yan Cai, who quickly broke free.

“You still have a wound on your chest; wait… huh, the wound is completely healed.” Yan Cai carefully examined it.

It was as if it had been repaired with life energy, but besides him, who else had life energy?

Even Qingke, who inherited some of his ability, did not inherit the ability to heal and repair with life energy. His son’s ability had completely evolved towards aggression, perhaps influenced by his psychological state at the time.

When he first arrived in this world, he lost his abilities, and in his helpless state, all he could think of was self-defense and attack. Therefore, the ability inherited by his son was solely geared towards this.

It wasn’t his son or him; then could it be natural recovery?

He was lost in thought, but was awakened by his son’s clear voice.

“Father, Father, it’s father! Father’s better!” His son uttered words of unclear meaning. Jiang Manyue and Yan Cai didn’t understand what he meant; they only thought he was excited to see Jiang Manyue, who is awake.

No one understood that his son was actually saying that Father saved father.

For some reason, the temporal repair abilities ignored Qingke, and he became the only one who saw the whole process and remembered it. However, being too young, neither father paid much attention to his words.

Thus, the truth was buried once again.
