GL My Goddess Best Friend’s Seduction (H) - Chapter 9
According to the private investigator, Qi Zhengyu and the girl checked into the hotel at 8:46 PM.
We weren’t far from the hotel, and the drive took about 30 minutes. It was nearly 9:30 PM when we arrived.
Si Jingnian walked with me into the hotel. After learning they were in room 2102, we took the elevator.
In the elevator, I didn’t know what to do. Should I just knock? That probably wouldn’t work.
Si Jingnian squeezed my hand, her eyes full of determination. My panic vanished simply because she was here.
As if to reassure me, she said, “I have a plan.”
Then I learned what her plan was.
When we stepped out of the elevator, Si Jingnian led me to the stairwell.
The scene in the stairwell startled me.
Behind the door, in a corner by the wall, two people were crouching, a man and a woman who were both dressed in black sportswear. In the dim hallway, they blended in.
The man looked up at us and flashed a smile before returning to his work. He appeared to be around 30, of average height, with a bulging backpack beside him. Next to it was a large camera. His face was plain, but a sharp aura made him stand out.
The woman, about 25, held a laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard. She wore no makeup but was clearly beautiful. At her feet were two black, box-like devices with antennas and colored buttons.
The man was tinkering with one of the boxes.
I was confused. Was I on a movie set? Their presence and equipment felt unreal. But with private investigators involved, high-tech tracking tools were probably normal.
“It is done,” the man said suddenly, speaking with a deep and pleasant voice.
“Hm,” the woman replied.
Her laptop screen lit up with several live surveillance feeds, showing different angles of hotel corridors. She tapped a key, zooming in on the hallway outside room 2102.
“Let’s see how far the cheating couple has gotten,” the man said, pulling a tiny laptop from his pocket. He fiddled with it.
The screen displayed a video feed from a low angle, capturing only the floor-level view of a gray-white carpet and a nearby frosted glass wall. Behind the glass, two blurry figures were visible, likely in the bathroom.
The man touched his earpiece.
“Tch, tch, tch, they’re going at it,” he said, smacking his lips.
I bit my lower lip, trying to shake off the sick feeling. Si Jingnian gripped my hand tightly, passing me strength. I exhaled and squeezed her hand back.
“Probably 15 minutes, and we can go in,” the man added.
I wasn’t sure why 15 minutes, but I guessed they planned to catch them in the act.
During the wait, Si Jingnian chatted with the man. They seemed familiar.
Si Jingnian introduced him. “Li Xian, my senior from Caltech, computer science.” And the woman, “Wu Fei, his junior.”
“Hi,” I said, feeling awkward. I rarely met Si Jingnian’s friends. I’d seen her colleagues, but never her senior. Although I am normally outgoing, I felt out of place.
“I’m An Xiaoyu, Jingnian’s roommate and close friend.”
They smiled warmly. Li Xian glanced at Si Jingnian and gave her a gentle nudge. He leaned in to whisper something to her. Although I couldn’t hear what he said, Si Jingnian responded with a soft “hm.”
Li Xian looked back at me with a curious yet nonintrusive gaze.
“Hey, Jingnian, you’ve been back three years and never show up to class reunions. Lan Yun’s still mad, saying you ditched your ‘first wife,'” Li Xian said, pouting like a scorned lover.
“Later,” Si Jingnian said.
I did not want to hear more, as my mood was too heavy. Still, I gathered that Si Jingnian and Lan Yun were close.
“After this, how about late-night snacks together?” Li Xian asked.
I looked at Si Jingnian pleadingly. She saved me, as expected. “Not a good time. Next time.”
I stared at my toes.
Suddenly, Li Xian held out his phone, displaying a large QR code. I looked up, confused. He winked and said, “Xiaoyu, add me on WeChat. If you ever need help, I’ll give you a 50% discount.”
I reached into my pocket for my phone.
Before I could unlock it, Si Jingnian snatched his phone away. “Add what? Are you already dooming her next boyfriend to cheat too?”
She closed the app and returned the phone to him.
“Hey, that’s not what I meant,” Li Xian protested. He turned to me, raising three fingers. “Xiaoyu, you have to believe me.”
I nodded.
Li Xian shook his head. “Our company doesn’t just catch cheaters. We find people, gather evidence, do paparazzi work, fix computers, install cameras, repair circuits, and unclog drains. You name it.”
I was tempted. They sounded versatile.
Li Xian glanced at Si Jingnian again. She was facing him, so I couldn’t see her face. He didn’t offer his phone again.
Suddenly, he said, “Let’s go. We can get in.”
I still didn’t know how we’d enter, but I trusted Si Jingnian.
After seeing their setup, I was sure they had a quiet way in.
Si Jingnian and I stepped forward. Li Xian grabbed his camera and followed.
At the door, he crouched and pulled a black card from his pocket. He stuck a tiny chip to the card’s edge.
He swiped the card at the lock, which emitted a faint, glitchy sound. He twisted the handle, and the door opened. The entire process took less than five seconds.
Si Jingnian and I exchanged a glance.
I steeled my face and walked in first. Si Jingnian stayed close. Li Xian picked up his camera and trailed us.
The hallway was littered with clothes. The deeper we went, the smaller the pieces. Meanwhile, the moaning grew louder.
The carpet muffled our steps. The sound of running water from the bathroom made our entry even quieter.
When I reached the foot of the bed, I saw the dark purple canopy and the tangled bodies.
Qi Zhengyu was still moving, his eyes locked on the woman beneath him.
The woman moaned loudly with her eyes closed. “Open your eyes. Look at yourself getting f*cked by me,” he said.
She opened her eyes and screamed before shoving him off. The abrupt sound startled him.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” he snapped as she pushed him aside.
The woman quickly wrapped herself in the blanket.
Qi Zhengyu had not realized what was happening until his eyes finally settled on us.
His first instinct was to cover himself, but the woman had already taken the blanket. He reached for a pillow instead.
“Xiaoyu, let me explain,” he said, stepping toward me. When he saw Li Xian recording, he panicked and attempted to cover the lens, momentarily forgetting about the pillow.
Li Xian stepped back, capturing a close-up. Qi Zhengyu frantically scrambled to retrieve the pillow.
“Stop filming!” he shouted.
I could not help but laugh. “What is there to explain?”
“You slept with her, but you claim to love me? Did she dr*g you? Force you?” I asked.
Qi Zhengyu looked nothing like his usual polished self. He appeared panicked and humiliated.
“Xiaoyu, please forgive me…”
“Save it. I am not in a position to forgive. I can delete the video, but only if you agree to my conditions.”
His expression brightened slightly. “Name them.”
“We break up and cancel the engagement. You must not harass me. You will explain everything to both my parents and yours. Be honest. Tell them you cheated and fell for someone else.”
