GL My Goddess Best Friend’s Seduction (H) - Chapter 48
Si Jingnian sat across from me. Lan Yun was seated to my right, and on my left was Ling Kai, another quiet person in the group. His eyes were calm and shallow, as if nothing in the world concerned him. The only time a flicker of emotion appeared in his gaze was when Lan Yun spoke. Then, his expression would show a hint of care.
My instinct told me that he liked Lan Yun.
Lan Yun truly was very beautiful. Sitting so close, I was finally overwhelmed by her beauty. Her bone structure was strikingly elegant. Her beauty was sharp, almost aggressive. Her aura was commanding.
I glanced at the serene Si Jingnian, finally pulling my attention away from Lan Yun. With someone like her admiring Si Jingnian, I felt pressured and a little ashamed. If Si Jingnian had not already liked me or had not been so devoted, she might have easily been drawn to Lan Yun.
I sighed inwardly, finished arranging my cards, and focused on the game. My hand was terrible, but with Si Jingnian’s skill and luck, our team barely held its ground.
Lan Yun’s team pulled ahead, which left me feeling a bit upset. It was not about the prize. I just did not like the idea of losing to Lan Yun. It felt suffocating.
In the end, Lan Yun and Ling Kai won. I was discouraged. Si Jingnian showed no reaction, her expression unchanged as if nothing had happened. I guessed she did not care about the outcome.
Ling Kai, on the other hand, looked genuinely pleased. He mentioned it had been a long time since he had traveled to Europe. As he spoke, he kept his eyes on Lan Yun. His gaze was steady, filled with anticipation and silent longing.
Lan Yun looked displeased. Her face showed her bad mood. She seemed completely uninterested in the prizes, perhaps because a rich heiress like her did not care about such things.
Just as the group began talking about changing locations, maybe watching a movie in the room with the giant screen or getting a group massage, Lan Yun spoke up. She raised her chin, her gaze locked on Si Jingnian. Her voice was not loud, but it was sharp enough to silence everyone.
“Jingnian, I won this round. Shouldn’t you give me something?”
I looked at Lan Yun’s expression. She was being playful without shame. I glanced at Si Jingnian. Her face was blank.
The others all looked clueless. People like Li Xian and Ling Kai seemed like they wanted to say something but held back.
How did I feel? I was on high alert, like facing an enemy, yet I was also curious about what Lan Yun would do.
Si Jingnian stood up from her seat, walked to my side, and held my hand. She asked, “What do you want?”
I stood up beside her, leaning gently into her, calmly watching Lan Yun’s expression twist into something unpleasant.
Lan Yun slightly parted her beautiful lips. A faintly wicked smile crept across her face. She said, “I want you to fulfill your promise to me.”
My heart dropped in an instant.
Promise? That did not sound good.
Lan Yun’s expression only made it worse.
She was hinting at something from the past between her and Si Jingnian, something I did not know.
I instinctively tightened my grip on Si Jingnian’s hand. But this time, she did not squeeze back to reassure me.
Panic rose in me.
At that moment, Li Xian stepped in to lead the group. He stood up, waving his arms to herd everyone out the door. “Alright, you all go next door to watch the movie. Things are done here, nothing to see.”
“Let’s go, let’s go.”
“Oh, oh, oh.” A few people obediently followed Li Xian’s lead and headed out.
“Can I stay?” Zhang Baobao, ever the gossip, tried to linger. Li Xian firmly denied him.
“No, you cannot.”
“Oh… alright then.”
Li Xian shooed the crowd out like ducks, closing the heavy door behind them. The spacious room now held only the three of us: me, Si Jingnian, and Lan Yun.
Lan Yun looked thrilled, excited, and proud. There was something unreadable in her expression as she glanced at me smugly.
I felt intimidated under her gaze. A thousand thoughts tangled in my mind.
I feel like a panicked old dog. Si Jingnian wouldn’t have promised her something… indecent, right? Probably not. Si Jingnian did not seem like that type.
But could they have been together before? Lan Yun was so stunning. If she had clung to Si Jingnian relentlessly, it would have been hard to say no.
If they had been together, then maybe there was some kind of promise. That would make this more believable.
Si Jingnian sighed and gripped my hand tightly.
Then she let go.
I felt a bit lost. I clenched my hand into a fist. My nails dug into my palm.
“Lan Yun, if you do this, we cannot be friends anymore.” Si Jingnian stepped closer to her. Her usual calm now looked helpless and sorrowful.
Lan Yun burst into laughter. It was wild, nearly manic. She laughed so hard, she nearly cried. “Jingnian, all these years since you came back, have you ever been my friend?”
“You changed your number. Blocked me on WeChat. Refused to come to any gatherings. Do you call this friendship?” Lan Yun mocked herself as she spoke, her voice full of madness and blame.
“And what do you mean we can’t be friends anymore? What did I ask you for? Murder? A crime? Sleeping with me? It was just a kiss! So what?”
What kind of movie plot was this?
Was I dreaming? Or maybe life really was more dramatic than movies.
Si Jingnian turned back to look at me. Her face held an apologetic, soothing expression. “Xiaoyu, please forgive me. Don’t be angry. I will explain everything to you later.”
I reached out to take her hand but pulled back.
I was not angry. Really, I wasn’t. I just did not want to watch what came next.
I knew Si Jingnian was not doing this of her own will. She had been avoiding Lan Yun for years. Because of my encouragement, she saw her again, and now this happened.
I wanted to turn away, but I was frozen in place. I could only watch as Si Jingnian stepped closer to Lan Yun. Her lips moved toward Lan Yun’s forehead, but Lan Yun suddenly lifted herself and kissed Si Jingnian on the lips.
!!!
I jumped forward, ready to pull them apart, but Si Jingnian was faster. She pushed Lan Yun away first.
She then began furiously scrubbing her lips.
I pulled out a tissue from my bag and helped her wipe her lips. I was fuming.
I had thought I would not mind. But to hell with that. Of course I minded.
I pulled out another tissue and kept wiping. Si Jingnian let me do it. I glared at her. She accepted it quietly.
My anger was a mess. I did not know whether to be mad at myself for being too tolerant, at Si Jingnian for keeping her promise, or at Lan Yun for being so shameless.
I glanced at Lan Yun, who had collapsed on the floor. She covered her face with her hands, her long hair hiding her expression. One thing was unmistakable; she was definitely not happy.
I used a fresh tissue to wipe Si Jingnian’s lips again and decided I would not kiss those lips for a while.
Her lips were a little red and swollen. I softened my touch and applied lip balm for her.
When I finished, I said nothing and turned to leave. Si Jingnian grabbed my hand. I shook her off.
I did not know what kind of tantrum I was throwing. Who could I blame for this?
I walked away quickly. Si Jingnian followed.
Her voice trembled. “Shall we go home?”
Her voice sounded wrong. I turned around and saw her pale expression.
Suddenly, I realized that the kiss had hurt Si Jingnian too.
I quickly reached out and held her hand. It was ice cold.
I took her home.
On the way, Si Jingnian told me that during her first year of grad school, she had been so exhausted she nearly coughed up blood. One night, she came back late to her old apartment. The smoke alarm was broken. A fire broke out while she was still asleep. Lan Yun, who lived next door, smelled the smoke and smashed open her door with tools, pulling her out unconscious.
That was how Si Jingnian survived.
That night, Lan Yun made her promise something. Si Jingnian said she already liked someone. Lan Yun said she did not mind and would collect on the promise a few years later.
After hearing this melodramatic tale, all I could think about was how close Si Jingnian had come to dying.
It scared me. It really did.
I held her tightly for a long time before I could calm down.
That night, Li Xian called to apologize. He said he never expected Lan Yun to pull something like that and hoped I would not blame Si Jingnian.
I said I wouldn’t. But I needed some time.
Li Xian apologized again.
