GL My Goddess Best Friend’s Seduction (H) - Chapter 3
I set an alarm for 2:40 AM, planning to wash up, apply light makeup, and leave by 3:30 AM. My intentions were good, but when the alarm rang, I grabbed my phone and turned it off instantly.
This is where Si Jingnian came in handy.
At 3:05 AM, she pulled me out of bed. I say “pulled” because it’s no exaggeration, as she almost carried me. I sat up and slapped my cheeks, hoping to wake myself up a bit, but it didn’t work. I nearly fell back asleep sitting there.
Si Jingnian dragged me to the bathroom, squeezed toothpaste onto my electric toothbrush, and handed it to me.
I brushed my teeth with my eyes half-closed.
Only when I rinsed my mouth did I wake up. In the mirror, I saw Si Jingnian standing nearby, arms crossed, leaning against the bathroom door, and watching me wash up. She had already changed clothes and put on light makeup. Given her speed, she probably got up around 2:30 AM.
She went to bed around midnight.
I vaguely heard her moving in the living room when I was half-asleep. I glanced at my phone, and it was past 11:00 PM. That meant she slept for just over two hours, yet she looked full of energy, fresh and alert. Meanwhile, I was like a wilted flower in winter, completely drained.
I threw on some clothes, since I’d wear a bridesmaid dress later, and applied basic makeup. I realized it was already nearly 3:30 AM.
I planned to nap in the car. Si Jingnian and I sat in the back, and I leaned on her shoulder, dozing off again. She relaxed her shoulder, seemingly to make me more comfortable.
The roads were quiet at night, and the usual hour-long trip took just over 40 minutes.
Si Jingnian pulled my arm, dragging me through the ticket gate. We didn’t bring much, just a 20-inch suitcase. I packed only underwear, pajamas, a makeup bag, and a thick red envelope for Jiang Yiyi. Si Jingnian seemed to have brought a laptop and a thick professional book.
I glanced at the cover, which was in German, unreadable to me.
Speaking of which, Si Jingnian suddenly transferred to study in Germany during her sophomore year. She was a mechanical engineering major, so Germany made sense, but I was a bit upset back then. Our friendship was so close, yet she didn’t tell me or discuss her plans to study abroad.
I ranted to Jiang Yiyi about it, and she just said, “Holy crap, is the goddess that fluent in German?” I was speechless at her focus.
Later, Yiyi joined me in complaining, calling Si Jingnian a “heartless jerk” who abandoned her “loyal wife” and so on. Her word choice was odd, but the essence was right. Si Jingnian was a “jerk girl.”
On the high-speed train, I perked up a bit and started fiddling with my phone. I noticed a few messages from Qi Zhengyu, Ms. Jiang Yiyi, and Aunt Luo Lan.
I sent Qi Zhengyu a quick, “On the train.”
To Jiang Yiyi, I wrote, “Baby, I’m here,” with a location pin for A City’s train station.
As for Aunt Luo Lan, let me introduce her. She’s Si Jingnian’s mother, an elegant, mature, and adorable woman.
Why did she message me? Here’s the context.
Last night, after we got home, Si Jingnian started messing with WeChat after washing up.
To clarify, Si Jingnian usually avoids WeChat after work. It’s either urgent work issues or chats with friends or Yu’an, and I easily figured out she was texting Yu’an last night.
She was obvious about it, angling her phone away from me. When I leaned in, she’d turn away or move somewhere else.
Way too obvious!
If it was work, she’d be open about it, but with Yu’an, she was secretive. I never called her out, and just gave her a knowing smile.
The first time I noticed her chatting with Yu’an, I was pretty shocked. It felt like a rare flower blooming, mixed with a faint sense of reluctance. Perhaps because I’d worked hard to get close to her these past three years, and now some guy swooped in.
His contact name was Yu’an. After noticing a few times, I made her open his Moments page. His WeChat name was just Yu’an, and Si Jingnian wouldn’t tell me his surname. His Moments had barely anything, just one lovey-dovey post, “Together. @Si Jingnian,” dated December 24, 2018, Christmas Eve, pretty romantic.
Below was Si Jingnian’s reply, “Mm.”
So typical of her. Even in love, she’s so cool, and I can’t imagine her acting cute with Yu’an, but it’d probably be a sight.
As for Aunt Luo Lan, she visited last Mid-Autumn Festival for two days.
Our apartment has two bedrooms and a living room, with similar-sized bedrooms, one for each of us. When her mom came, I shared a bed with Si Jingnian. It’s a two-meter bed, and we’re both tidy sleepers, so I barely noticed her presence all night. We slept peacefully.
Unlike Jiang Yiyi, whose sleeping habits are awful. On a two-meter bed, she pushed me onto the floor at night.
Back to Aunt Luo Lan. While Si Jingnian was cooking, she secretly told me she thought Si Jingnian had someone she liked. She was always on WeChat, chatting a lot, with green speech bubbles filling her screen.
I slapped my thigh, excited, and said I’d noticed too.
For the quiet Si Jingnian to become so talkative, it must be true love.
As a friend, I was a bit annoyed, but not jealous, okay?
Aunt Luo Lan asked me to keep an eye on their progress, since Si Jingnian had never dated. She wanted me to check if the guy was decent and teach Si Jingnian how to date, since I’m supposedly experienced.
Heaven knows, I’ve only had two relationships. One in my sophomore year lasted less than six months, and the other is Qi Zhengyu, starting in my third year of work. We’ve been together over two years, now in our third.
My mom introduced him. Normally, blind dates like this lead to marriage within a year, but I told Zhengyu I wasn’t ready to marry so soon, and he agreed.
In December 2018, we got engaged. He bought rings, and we exchanged them in front of both families, sealing the deal.
Back to Aunt Luo Lan. Whenever I noticed Si Jingnian chatting with Yu’an or going on a date, I’d tip her off.
Last night, I told her they were chatting again, and she didn’t reply then, probably doing a face mask or yoga.
Now, I saw she replied at midnight.
Aunt Luo Lan: Got it. My silly girl.
Aunt Luo Lan: Xiaoyu, look after her for me. Don’t be fooled by her tough exterior, as Jingnian keeps everything bottled up. Love her for me.
Peaceful New Year: Yep, got it. I adore Jingnian, and she’s such a great girl. I love her a lot.
Surprisingly, Aunt Luo Lan was still online at this time.
Aunt Luo Lan: Sigh. You silly child.
But keep loving each other.
Peaceful New Year: Aunt, you’re still awake?
Aunt Luo Lan: Meeting friends at the beach for sunrise tomorrow, and I’m too excited to sleep. I’m chatting all night.
Peaceful New Year: That’s wonderful, and I hope Jingnian and I are like that in a few decades.
Aunt Luo Lan: Sigh, who says otherwise? By the way, how’s it going with Zhengyu?
Peaceful New Year: Pretty good, and if nothing changes, we might marry early next year.
She kept typing but sent nothing.
As I locked my screen, her reply came.
Aunt Luo Lan: That’s good.
I quickly reopened my phone and sent a cute nodding cat emoji.
She didn’t type back but sent a 20-second voice message. I plugged in earphones and played it. Her voice, warm with a soft southern accent, was lovely. “Oh, it’s past 5 AM, and we’re heading out. You should nap, and Jingnian said you’re going to a wedding. Take lots of photos for me, not just the bride’s, but you and Jingnian together too. I love seeing them.”
I put my phone in my bag and stretched lazily by the window seat, but my elbow bumped Si Jingnian’s sharp nose.
I giggled at her, and she glanced up, then looked back down.
She wore glasses and was reading a book, completely absorbed, like a scholar—only this scholar was strikingly beautiful. Her long, thick lashes cast shadows on her cheekbones.
With nothing to do, I admired her reading, and after a while, I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of her.
I posted it on Moments with the caption, “Goddess makes me feel inferior.”
Then I switched to Weibo, logged into my alternate account, posted the photo with some text, and logged out.
Surprisingly, at 5 AM, many people liked and commented, perhaps because it’s Saturday, and more people stayed up late.
A bunch of comments gushed about how pretty the goddess was, but I didn’t reply to them and posted a public comment, “You’re supposed to learn from the goddess’s love for studying and reading, and you’re all missing the point.”
I also scolded a few students who hadn’t slept, since they had tutoring at 8:30 AM.
One student’s like surprised me, so I opened her chat.
Peaceful New Year: Are you still up or just awake? Don’t you have a chemistry competition today?
Lin Yuqi: Just woke up, and I’m a bit nervous.
Peaceful New Year: Your teacher believes in you, so relax.
Lin Yuqi: Thanks, and I’ll review a bit in the car.
Peaceful New Year: Haha, looks like my Moments post motivated you, but don’t strain your eyes.
Lin Yuqi: Thanks, Teacher Xiaoyu, and my driver’s calling me. I’ll update you after the competition.
I replied with an “OK” and a hopping rabbit emoji cheering her on.
I’ve taught Lin Yuqi for three years, from ninth grade to eleventh, and she’s outstanding, studies hard, wins competition awards, and just attended Harvard’s summer school. She’s gentle and adorable, and we get along well, as she always sends me holiday greetings.
She’s a student I’m proud of, one of the best parts of this job, alongside the great salary and flexible time off.
